My ex mother in law (rest in peace) was born and raised in England and always went on and on about missing high tea (thays what shw called it too!). So one year for mothers day, I went to my dear friend who was a florist and had her make a high tea arrangement and found a place near my MIL that did high tea. She died shortly after but raved about how it was the best mothers day and high tea she'd ever been to. She was a lovely lady and I was thrilled to be able to experience that with her. May have to go and take my boy, her grandsons, to experience it, just once as they are teens and will not like it as much. Lol

@@robylove9190 I’m pretty sure she’d be fine. Having learned proper etiquette doesn’t mean she doesn’t live in reality. The English don’t generally eat much differently than Americans. We have etiquette courses in the United States, too. A lot of wealthier southern teenagers go to something called cotillion, and rich teens all over the country prepare for coming out into society. This is their equivalent, not how people behave all the time. Pubs come from the same culture after all. She probably gets home after teaching manners all day and relaxes-perhaps not as much as some would, but I doubt she’d be horrified by how most people behave.

Oh my gosh Sharon…. I know exactly what you mean about those hot flashes. Why do people think it’s ok not to talk about it with others? I get if it’s at an inappropriate time or place, but it should be talked about with friends, family & such. There’s so much more that goes along with it than just hot flashes too. Held your composure in a way I'm sure made your mentors proud. I especially loved how you gave Sharon's ideas (when they had merit) consideration, as if this might be a real update to the classic model. High tea, while a lovely tradition, is much too 'posh' for me. But if the chance comes, hope you can come by the states, let your hair down, and have fun with the Yanks!

The reason for putting jam on the plate that way is probably to keep crumbs out of the jam pot or something. It’s like if you get crumbs in a jar of honey or jam or butter. You want to prevent that.

In my opinion, the whole etiquette and "being a lady" thing is a bunch of crap lol. So many silly rules that women are supposed to follow.
