LOL I was shouting at the screen when I saw the reels turning in opposite directions. The only time you wanna see that is in a u-matic VTR!

Yeah, I was pulling my hair out for you to notice that the take-up spindle was going the wrong way or convince yourself of it. LOL I was a teenager when this machine came out. Always loved the look of the top loaders. Great video!!

'A Type 1 tape I don't care about'?.. it's a Maxell UDS-I from the early eighties. Very collectable and rated one of the best type 1's ever. The best Type 1's are considered by some to be the best tapes period. Great Video by the way.

I have exactly same cassette deck but not got around to replace the belts in it yet. Seems to be a decent quality for its age.

does this model have separate read and write heads? can you play back and record at the same time?

The helt is mounted om the wrong side of the spindle.

Hey! I just randomly stumbled across your video while trying to figure out this TEAC A-170S my father gave me. It wasn’t working so thats why I’m here. My partner and I took the backing off and noticed the main belt for the cassette is corroded. I think everything else is fine, so far, where am i able to purchase such a belt for this tech? I had a similar issue with my walkman as well. These are things that my parents gave me though I’m very young i still treasure them along with the music they showed me when i was a kid. I would love to fix these and play music on them again. Hopefully you can help me, Thanks.! ^_^

Could you post a link to the replacement belts you bought for this?

How did you get the top cover off? I undid the 4 screws that were connected to some plastic posts on each corner of the machine (inside, underneath), but still couldn't pop off the cover.

Without a service manual you can turn the wheels while in play by hand to find the way the belt goes on

Really would have been nice if you would have setup a tripod to film, from a more productive vantage point, to better show how you did what you did..
