Cambly was actually the first online teaching company that I taught for, and it was a nightmare. After 3 months of getting random negative reviews (for which Cambly does not provide context) I was promptly let go one day out of the blue without warning, not two days after I landed a student who signed up for a 6 month period under me. When I replied to the email that they sent to fire me, asking why I had been let go, cricket serenaded me. Please don't recommend this company, it's utter garbage.
@@ESLTeacher365is it okay to edit the intro video? Like minimal editing between sections of the introduction. I noticed a few teachers say it’s okay or they just edit it. I saw one that implied that it’s frowned upon. I find it somewhat unnatural to memorize rather than say sections with a natural manner while glueing them together. Do most people do minimal editing?
I am newly certified with a TEFL certificate and honestly I've been so lost as where to start and with whom i should start with but, watching your video gave me a little bit of ease ❤
I don't understand why they only need native speakers, I'm from Algeria and I have a solid American and British accent, I've spoke to dozens of Americans and they couldn't believe I'm not American, it goes to show that even non native speakers can have a good accent!
Thanks for the information I work in childcare I’ve been thinking about doing cambley but I really don’t have much teaching experience besides doing circle time
Hi, thank you for your informative video❤. I have a question. Does Cambly provide teaching materials or lesson plans for teachers based on students' requirements? Or I should gather it myself?
Hi Jaime, I recently found your RU-vid channel and found your content informative. I’m looking into applying for a Masters in TESL, but there is limited information on TESL; any insight you would be willing to provide would be greatly appreciated!
TESL, TESOL and TEFL are all essentially the same. I recommend being very clear on what you plan to do with your master’s in TESL, as just getting a regular TEFL/TESOL certificate is often enough depending on where/how you want to teach.
**Question: Does Cambly (or others) want teachers for Biz-English? **Q2: How important is a person's age? Cambly asks about a person's age. **Q3: Do some of those platforms need teachers for subjects other than English? **Q4: Do some of those platforms need other than teachers? You have a good channel. -- Thank You.
Some teachers do offer Business English on Cambly, but it’s better to offer it independently. A person’s age isn’t important for Cambly. If you want to teach another subject to kids, you can try Outschool or Allschool. I’m not sure about other positions besides teachers, sorry!
Online companies go on hiring freezes when there are too many teachers and not enough students. If you haven’t heard from Cambly on your application, try redoing your video. Also, make sure you are located in a state or country that Cambly hires from (for example, Cambly no longer hires from California)
Thank you for sharing your experience! I am a certified teacher in Texas with a master's degree in Special Education. I plan to submit my application on Cambly as a way to supplement my current adjunct salary. I am curious what other platforms would you recommend that I look in to?
@@ESLTeacher365 thanks for your response! I have been looking in to Outschool. We maintain a permanent address in Texas but spend most of our time traveling in Mexico. I am not sure if the background check would be effected if I am in another country.
Hi! Great video :) Just a question: is it okay to do it as a temporary job? For example, if I wanted to start teaching for just 2 months, could I “quit” after that period or is it like a yearly thing?
Cambly pays badly, it’s not just the USD 10.20 I am referring to, they do not pay the full amount for last min cancellations and no shows. You’ll get something like 1.70/ 2 usd max for a no show. If you add all this up, you’ll be getting around 6/7 USD as no shows are very common. I speak from experience, that is very very disappointing.
You can film your video using the site more than once and film it until you are happy with it. You can also film your own video and edit it and then upload it to your application.
@@ESLTeacher365 Officially, yes. Unofficially, no. I’ve talked to at least one tutor in the past who’s not a native speaker of English. I myself am a non-native tutor there.
@@ESLTeacher365 Hello folks. Just wanted to say thank you so much for the wonderful emails you've sent to me encouraging me to apply. They were very comforting and felt so good. I'm dragging my feet a little because I don't have headphones and I've been out of work for a bit and I'm in a precarious situation struggling to make rent. I'm also grappling with the fact that I can't wear a hat since my hair is one big bad hair day. 🙄😬. I still want to apply though. Do you know anything you can tell me about headphones? Are headphones geared for music ok? I'm 66 yrs old and not even too sure how to plug them in LOL
Any headphones will work! It will depend on your computer. Some headphones plug into the headphone jack. others into the USB port and others are Bluetooth connected. I recommend going to a computer store to get some help getting set up.@@technana3.141
Hello ma'am, Hope you find my message in a good health, I wanted to asked that can a nonnative teach on Cambly? If not, then kindly do share some online platforms where a nonnative is able to teach. Thank you
Officially the website says that they are looking for native speakers, but some non-natives who are fluent do get hired. However, I recommend teaching as a freelancer if you are a NNS.
Hi. I'm a teacher with 34 years experience with a TEFL certificate teaching certificate assessors certificate. I want to teach online. However we have loadshedding in SA. It's a big concern. Loadshedding is when the electricity goes off at certain hours. Should I be discouraged because of this
Hello teacher. Can you please help me with tutoring on Cambly. I have two years online experience and been applying for Cambly with no luck please even if you go through my application to see if there is anything I am doing wrong, I would appreciate it.
Hello Just want say thank you to Cambly for being so encouraging and supportive. I've had a few health challenges lately and I have to wait for my social security check so I can get some headphones but I am planning on completing my application soon. You guys are great and seem like a family of upbeàt positive people. Can you please tell me if Cambly has the option of being paid daily? Or is weekly or every two weeks or monthly? Looking forward to joining your team soon.
Hi Jamie, so when I submit my intro video to Cambly...it looked like I do it live. I'm not able to pre-record a video and then upload it. I have to record it live. Is that correct?
Just found out that Cambly doesn't take tutors from California!!! So disappointing-Not to mention the time I wasted watching numerous videos about their platform!
So UK, US, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand citizens who are outside of these countries may not get responded to on time if they live outside of these countries?
I got hired quickly because I’m based in Australia where there are fewer teachers. People applying from US time zones may find that it takes longer to get hired because there are more teachers in their time zone. It depends on where you are teach in from and how many students there on in your time zone (this is what Cambly told me.)
When you start on Cambly, you will teach "priority hours." In my experience, most students just want conversational English practice, but some will want to use the Cambly materials. It's easy to follow along with the lessons and you can always add in your own materials.
Hey hope you are doing well. I just want to know can you recommend to start with teaching kids or adult on camply.... And if you want to teach kids do i need to buy any teaching materials like educational charts. Thank you
Hello, I asked about the ear buds before but it looks like my comment is no longer there. You had said the earbuds would be ok as long as i had a microphone. Do you mean a separate mic or is there one i can use thats insude the computer?. Im a little confused as to what kinds of headphones to get. Can you suggest some that are reasonably priced? Do i actually need a separate mic too? Thx in advance.
The pay is actually 17 cents a minute for every minute you talk with a student up to a maximum of $10.20 an hour. That rate has not changed since Cambly started in 2013.
Teachers are hired based on demand in your time zone (this is what the company told me). Hopefully you hear soon, but there are hiring freezes from time to time.
@@ESLTeacher365how can we find out what the demand is in our time zone or if there's currently a hiring freeze? I would hate to spend the money on equipment just to apply and have nothing come of it (I do have a bachelor's degree, it's just not in teaching)
I don't recommend investing in the equipment and only applying to Cambly. If you want to teach online, you'll want to teach for multiple companies/marketplaces or freelance. I'm not sure if the demand info is public. This is what I was told by the brand.@@LisaMarieAdams
@@ESLTeacher365 thank u so much for the answer well actually i have a degree in English and I’m not a native speaker im from Morocco 🇲🇦 so i guess it depends on the application process to be accepted or not but just remember im asking u about cambly specifically and thanks 😊 a-lot
I like to select "paid users only" during my priority hours. The amount of time the lesson is depends on what the student has purchased. I have taught 15, 30 and 60 minute lessons. Keep teaching until you meet students that take 60 minute lessons and then ask them to be your regular students.
@@joajoa3069 When you are just starting you, schedule priority hours to meet new students. If you meet a student who is a good fit, you can ask them to be a regular student and share your schedule with them. It takes time to build up your schedule so be patient :)
The company told me that they hire based on time zone. If there are few students, but many teachers for example or can take a while to get hired. They also said they are aware of the issue and working to fix it.
Does it pay well? No. Cambly is a great place to get started teaching online because it doesn’t require a degree or experience. However, if you want to do this full-time you will need to add on other companies or freelance. Is it worth it? For beginners who need experience, yes.
More accurately, it's 17 cents per minute for each minute you actually speak with a student. It's a maximum $10.20 an hour for regular Cambly and $12 an hour for Cambly Kids.
Hello, I was hoping to find out what personal information cambly will require? Do they need an address to mail me things because I move around a lot? Thanks so much for the video!
Hi ma'am. I want to ask you a question because you have already taken classes on cambly. On the price page, seeing 3days per week and so on, if I take 3days per week of classes for 3 months, then I will get 36 classes in 3 months(if every month contains 4 weeks). Please share your experience. Thank you.
Hi! I don’t take classes on Cambly, I teach them. I’m not sure how pricing works for students, so I recommend checking out their website for a support email address.
