I am a 40 year old mom which English is my second language. I came to RU-vid looking to help my 1st grade with her reading and ended up learning my vowels sounds with your charts and hand motions in less than 5 minutes. THANK YOU!

I started a week ago to use this vowels chart to teach my severely autistic son his vowels. He has limited vocabulary but he is able to speak or repeat the sounds . It is hilarious for me when I made the sign for octopus and elephant ... See him laughing like that while he learn his bowels is sooo heartwarming. I have to keep practicing but after a week he is able to recognize the vowel sound “ O” which is the first letter of his name. He loves this game so much and it’s very very entertaining for him . You have the best ideas for teaching reading. Incorporating movement into letter sounds is a game changer. I taught my energetic & uninterested preschooler letter sounds in 1 week. We used the see, hear, do letter sounds by Stephanie Hohl. But essentially you're just doing exactly what you showed with the vowels. The only problem with the book is it moves too quickly for actually reading cvc words. That's why I love your binder idea for blending. Going to try that out and this vowel technique. Thanks again! :)

What is your advice for when a child refuses to do any school work? We started from a young age and now that she is almost four, she is not wanting to do any. Im doing things very similar to you, so her “school work” shouldn’t take long at all.

I decided to buy your binder thinking it was something that would be printed out and sent. You said in a video that it was a resource you had. So I paid for it and find out it’s a download. I do not have a printer available. I just want the binder printed out to use in my class. I enjoyed your video and I just wanted to give it a try.

Curious, I know this is about short vowel sounds, but…. How do you feel about “letter of the week” approach to consonants ? Like activities, papers, craft for letter b, and so on? I’m a little confused 😕 when should I teach the vowels, example I should start with the letter sounds and you said then go to the folder however I don’t know when I should start teaching the vowels, should it be before the two letter blends?
