Hey guys welcome to my channel! Today I'm going to share my tips on how to teach your dog to speak or bark on command.
Now I know that this command is a bit tricky, I also had a bit difficulty teaching my dogs at first, before I finally know a simple trick, which I'm about share. Now when you look or search for how to teach your dog to speak, the steps might look super easy. You grab a treat, wait for your dog to bark, and immediately give them the cue "speak" or "bark" and reward them. But in reality, it's not that easy to make our dog bark right, especially if your dog doesn't bark often. My first method, which wasn't quite successful was using external sound. I identified the things that stimulates my dog Kai to bark, and one example is ringing the doorbell. But when I asked my other family member to ring the bell, Kai did bark but couldn't concentrate on me. Same goes when I play a video of dogs barking, he would only concentrate on the sound and not me.
So if you asked then how did you teach him to bark? My first and maybe the one and only tip would be: Look for a way to make your dog bark AT YOU. Or at least bark at what you're holding. Some of you may know that I have two dogs, Kai and Rex which technically still puppies. And we always train them separately. If I'm training with Kai upstairs, then the other family member would be training Rex downstairs. I do not train both at the same time cause they can't concentrate well when they are together, especially Kai. But that one particular day, I was the only one in the house and still have to train them one by one. I trained Rex first and I told Kai to stay inside his crate. But then when I started playing fetch with Rex, using Kai's favorite ball, Kai started barking at me. When I realized this I quickly came closer to Kai, and I kinda tease him with the ball. And when he started to bark again, I quickly said YES, Bark and gave him the ball as reward. Then I asked him to drop the ball, took the ball again and start over. Teased him again, and then he barked, I give him the cue Bark and reward him again using the ball. For only several times, I put him out of his crate. Tried the command Bark, and it worked! It was really incredible, and only took several tries.
So you have to look for a way to make your dog to bark at you. In Kai's case he's trying to communicate with me, cause he really likes to play fetch and wanted to join in the action. When your dog barks at you it means that they are focusing on you. You can try the same method that I used or try something else, cause different dogs bark at different situations. To teach this command you have to be very patient, cause sometimes this command can literally take minutes to months depending on your dog. Cause Rex hasn't really got this command, we're still working on it, and looking for other ways to make him bark.
Cause you know Rottweilers are relatively quiet and doesn't bark at unnecessary things, which I think is actually a good trait. So thankyou guys for watching, I hope this tip could give you an insight. And be patient, I know how hard it is if you have silent dogs, but if you keep trying and finding new ways, the day will come. That's it for today and if you wanna see more about my dogs, do consider to subscribe. Goodbye and I'll see you next time!
