Fascinating as I have always heard and trained my puppies based on the “rule” of don’t play the tug game if you want a faultless release.

Making RU-vid videos is really hard. Doing it with untrained puppies is even harder! You guys are doing a really good job and I enjoy your content. About to train my first GWP puppy myself, and ive picked up heaps of tips from you guys!

I really like your videos. I have a 15 week old GSP the problem I have with this method, is she does not want to grab anything. I have only been able to get her to bite onto a squeky ball that is dressed as a pig. I tried several other toys with not change. any ideas how to get her interested in grabbing something?

If you want to stop the verbalizing/ barking would you not mark it and not reinforce it with a treat?

Does the object matter? My pup tends to retrieve a ball better than a bumper, is there anything I should be worried about here?

We don’t recommend balls as they can develop rolling/mouthing issues down the road.

Forgive me but I am old and I know that things change. I was always taught you should NOT do tug of war with a puppy as it creates possessiveness and later they won't want to give you what they retrieve. So why is this a good idea?
