I also really love the low, gritty U-Know vocal parts, and yes Changmin comes in sounding sassy and sexy...it kills me 💀 Rebel was produced by Moonshine and KENZIE, the production is insane and really well done. I am glad you caught the whole "break the rules like a rebel" part, TVQX are trend setters, they don't follow the crowd, the crowd follows them. They go against the normal and do it like LEGENDS, because they are. I'm glad your TVXQ reaction to Down got the love it deserved.
They used "Carol of the Bells" - a Christmas song likely because they released the album on Dec 26th which is for their 20th anniversary. Also TVXQ debuted on Dec 26th 2003.
I noticed that there was a lot of interest in "Rebel", more reactions than usual, even by people I hadn't seen before. Maybe it made Kpop some new fans! It makes me happy when an older SM group gets some love, they deserve so much more recognition in the west than they get nowadays. If that was partly due to the use of "Choral of the Bells", congrats! I mentioned the song as one of the best kpop songs of the year in the comments of the worst of the year list by Todd in the Shadows, which is very popular. I would be proud if that helped, but I doubt many people read comments, esp long ones.

The Carol of the Bells brings me up short every time. I love Carol of the Bells, but I'm not sure what I think about it here. It screams Christmas and that's what I think about. I enjoy everything else.
TVXQ debuted on the day after Christmas so the holiday has a special meaning for them. I love the use of "Carol of the Bells" in this. I like it very much as well, and since it's an instrumental piece I don't find it too "christmassy". And btw it actually is the soundtrack for a video game. :)
