I don’t think that the teachers should take offense to this, because it’s not them who’s making the kids forget their knowledge... it’s the school system itself.

Last year, when I was in 8th grade, I had a teacher who was one of the best teachers I ever had. Not only was she cool, but I loved her thoughts on school. She said that if she was in charge of the school system, she would remove grades in a heartbeat because what she wants is for us to actually LEARN. She also talked about how school doesn't teach basic life stuff like how to do taxes and how to write paychecks, so she taught us how to write paychecks, even tho I had already learned it in 5th grade lol. She would also make us write check in and check out forms every day every morning and afternoon when we were doing distance learning. In the forms, you would need to choose what mood your in. And then, at the end of the form, you have to write something you want to tell her or let her know and it can be anything. She would also try to send us emails to check up on us once in a while to see how we're doing. Little did she know that by her doing that, it made me feel less anxious about the pandemic and everything else around. If I wasn't able to talk to my parents or friends, I was able to talk to her. I know it sounds weird being able to talk to your teachers, but she just made it super easy to talk to and she ALWAYS tries to understand what we're going through as if she was a student that's our age herself! What I hated the most was when my classmates would always say that they hate her or she's the worst or she's so annoying. It's not her, it's the kids! They don't like people telling them anything when they're doing something wrong or being disrespectful, which annoys me so much. The point I'm trying to make is first, if you're a teacher, showing you care about your students really makes a difference, even tho it sometimes seems it doesn't, but trust me, it does. And two, if you're still in school, please don't take advantage of good teachers. Don't get mad when they tell you not to do something when you know you're wrong. They need a class called LIFE Where they teach time management, mental health, cooking, taxes, human rights, how to change a tire, how to get a job, the laws in your country, how to buy a house, how to deal with heartbreak, environmentally friendly ways of living, how to raise a kid, how to vote, why your tires need to be rotated on your car, etc. Because honestly, that one class definitely would have made me better prepared for life than all of the years of schooling combined.

One of the most “useful” classes I have rn is tech science, and I’m learning more about tech science out of school then I am in school, I’m learning c++ while my class is only teaching me one of the most simple coding languages to learn, I do so many great things that can make me successful but none of it counts if I don’t pass that one class that doesn’t mean anything to me.

My secondary school had a food technology department, yet only made one meal in my 5 years there. I would have rather learnt stuff like how to get a job, pay taxes, cook food and how to manage my time than being able to calculate the speed of the bullet George killed Lennie with, while enjoying a £1 frozen pizza

I dont think anyone will ever see this but when i was about 10 and in fifth grade (i was always in an advanced class) and i had just gotten diagnosed with an uncurable disease (not fatal but it changed how i live and how i function) and i had to use my phone so i could be checking my blood sugar and making sure i was okay. My fifth grade teacher was absolutely horrible. She would call me out for bad grades in front of the class and threaten to take my phone away. Whenever i tried to speak up the 2 principals would visit me and yell at me in the hallway untill i cried. At the same time i was getting bullied but a majority of the class and felt so udderly alone. When i told my parents everything they decided we should just move since we had been talking about it and when they told the principals and teachers we were moving they all immediately tried to say no no (my name) is right where she needs to be. I recently found out they all said that because i was one of the best grading students in the school. They ended up winning the blue ribbon award but only because they drove the bad grading students out with emotional abuse and treated the good grading students like royalty. I was one of the best but just because sometimes i would need to use my phone or eat something to keep me alive they hated me. I now have severe truama and am going to therapy for how self concious i am. Mrs. Simpson i hope you burn in hell because you made my life it

It’s really frustrating for me because whenever I’m preparing for an exam I get so stressed about getting decent grades and my brain wouldn’t consume the stuff as learning,so when I finish a big exam,I’d forgotten everything that was taught before. My best subject is English,and it has always been this way when i was very young(my native language is not eng btw),my classmates all asked me how my English is so good,but I didn’t know how to answer,until I saw this video a while ago,when I was still very small I started learning English under an environment that was not stressful at all,and there were no such things as grades or scores,it’s just me having fun,from reading very easy picture books with my mother,and slowly building up my vocabulary through the years,I was able to learn stuff and remember them because I wasn’t stressed,there was no deadlines.But my math and chemistry grades are not very great,when math started getting a little bit difficult for me I started getting stressed and discouraged about learning,I was stressed about grades so I started taking all my time to memorize the ways to solve different types of problems,or just using the dumbest ways to get the answers right because I just didn’t know the right way to calculate it,because of the stress,I was constantly worrying about new stuff they throw at us to pick up,I started forgetting what I had learned,one day I realized I needed a little more time to understand things that rely highly on logical thinking and calculating,but school didn’t give us enough time for that.What I’m saying is,if schools really want us to actually learn,then they should make it less stressful because trying to learn something under pressure is not good for students,you need to give them time and help them understand things,some students get stressed when there’s a deadline or goal,and they’d be trying to figure out a way to do it in a way that is not effective,(and maybe they couldn’t see what they’re doing wrong)because they forgot how to do it the way schools had taught them,so maybe even if they got the answers right,or scored very high for the project,but did they actually learn anything is what I’m saying.

The sad part about the teachers and the reaction of this video. They seem like they don’t want to go against the corporation that sponsors them. I always wanted to be a teacher, until I found out they were underpaid, and under appreciated. Not by the kids but the school system. Your first class starts at 8:30am You go through the whole day sitting in chairs made of literal rock with bright af lights in your eyes all day all while doing classwork assignments and tests. Then, after you have worked for hours, you’re told “Go home and do some more!” You get out of school at 3:30pm You get home probably around 4:00pm You do homework assignments until 5:00pm You eat dinner probably 5:00-5:30 You work on upcoming projects from 5:30-6:30 You study for tests/quizzes 6:30-7:30 By this time, it is already dark outside and you are restricted to the confines of your house. This schedule I just formulated is assuming you don’t have any extra curricular activities. School is a 24 hour pressure on a student, and they wonder why kids hate it so much.
