I have been in Japan teaching English for 6 weeks so far! Here's what I think about the job so far. Would you want to teach English after hearing my opinion? Follow me on other social media platforms: linktr.ee/amber_evelyn
your tenacity is admirable, I like that you follow your dreams and at the same time you know what you were facing. The work is hard. I want you to be happy
It was really nice hearing your experience!! 😁 & I am so glad to hear you say “if you come here, remember that you came here to work.” So true. I share the same sentiment as a teacher in Korea right now. Looking forward to more teaching/living in Japan content! Can I request a video on living expenses in Japan 2023? Cost breakdowns, saving $$, etc. 😆
I'm so glad I found your channel! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'd love to hear more about your job search, how much money you brought to Japan (as in how much you needed to cover your living expenses until you started getting paid from your job) and I look forward to your apartment tour as well! My husband and I are hopefully coming to JP to teach soon, we've had some interviews, but it can be tough. Also, I LOVE your website and art, so cute. :)
Korea's epik program is the same lol. There's a 1 week "training" but it's not useful at all. The program was originally meant for a native speaker to help the korean teacher in the class room but essentially the korean teacher puts everything onto the lap of the NET. Most NETs aren't prepared for this and struggle for a few months. Luckily there's a couple of teacher resource sites where people share ideas, games, camps, etc online but the program and its goals needs to be ironed out more. Once you get the hang of it, if you care about your job, and like your school/kids then it can be a nice little gig.
I’m going to be moving there soon. I’m already going into this knowing that I am going to be working! I’m spoiled too! Although I have prepared myself too! I mean I feel that’s just what it is being a teacher. I also want to start writing children’s books. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time. I just can’t draw, but I found an illustrator just in time. Hopefully I’ll be able to make a small business out of writing children’s books and a RU-vid channel. I’m kinda old too. 😂
hi and sorry to bother you! Im myrto and im from greece and i would LOVE to move to japan! After my research on the subject i decided that im going to get a bachelors degree on english, learn japanese and then get a tefl and move. However, since im not a native english speaker do you think from your experience that ill be able to find a job ? Im pretty good with languages and i am confident that ill speak japanese good because i also watch tons of anime and manga etc. Thank you so much in advance !!
Yes! This company has their own books they made. You go into every class with everything you need. I just follow what's laid out in the book and it's super easy!
Maybe you can consider what other jobs you can get in Japan. Teachers are good for HR, recruiting, learning specialist, even teaching at the collegiate level is better paying. Also consider what your side hustle can be to make good money. If you find a partner you might become a citizen through marriage. Possibilities are there for you! Think outside the box and see which marketable skills you can leverage.
10:37 I'll be honest with you, I expected this to be much worse like I thought they expect you to work 10-12 hour shifts, because thats what I commonly hear when people share their experiences about working in Japan, I can totally understand starting your workshift late is kinda ruining your day, because you cannot truly submerge yourself freely into activities that needs your full attention. Im cheering for you tho, you need a job with a different shift if you want to live for your hobbies in your sparetime. I would definitely try to live in Japan If i could afford to move, because shifts are probably much more human-friendly than where I live 🤣If you read this, heads up! and have a nice day ☺
