Thank you for dedicating your time to educate those little monsters, I mean lovely young children...:) I was one of them. All I have today is because of my education, If I see my teacher again today, I will still bow in respect.
I’m so glad I watched this! First of all, as a Janet superfan, the opening joke drew men in 😂 But, GURL!! I’m from Louisiana and currently live in DFW, TX and there’s no way in HELL I’m voluntarily putting myself through a/c-less , all-day summers! Thank you for putting me on game 😅 Japan it is!
Sam!! I am JUST now seeing these comments. I'm so sorry I didn't respond to you!! I lived in DFW (or rather the HEB area) for years and that heat is NOTHING compared to what I experienced here in Taiwan. It's NOVEMBER and high 80's. I deserve a survivor medal!
Thanks so much for your excellent videos on Taiwan, Leah! After watching you talk about the heat in Taiwan, my husband & I did the research and decided on Taichung;) We just arrived & love it here! We'd love to connect in Tainan or if you come to visit Taichung!
@@LeahLivesAbroad Thanks so much for your enthusiastic response, Leah! Yay!!! We have no plans yet. How about you & your husband? Do you already have plans? We're curious to know. And if there's a chance we can connect, it would be amazing!
Good Morning!! I'm up and running and making videos this morning as I type :-) Thank you for your patience. My husband had brain surgery and my time has been used in helping with his recovery.
Hi Leah, your video popped up. Good thing! Enjoyed your video and immediately subscribed. Will definitely check your other videos. Curious to know if the schools in Taiwan employ new English teachers in their 50s. Have all the requirements and want to make a change in career
Thank you Leah for this video. I'm glad I came across it. I'm interested in Teaching in Taiwan and I'll appreciate your help and guidance. Can I apply with my Bachelors degree only or I should get a TEFL/TESOL certificate? Are Nigerians welcome to apply? If yes, how do I go about it?
Hi Florence. For PUBLIC schools, applicants are only accepted from the SACE and you also need a teaching license (or substitute license). Cram schools, however, have qualifications that are a lot more lenient. Teachers are in need there as well. Hope that helps!
Now (Feb/Mar) are ideal times to visit when it's cooler from morning through the early afternoon but if you're not a fan of heat you should know the two main seasons here are hot and hotter.
Hi Leah, I've watched several of your videos and am a new subscriber, thank you for content! If you have the time, I would be curious to learn more about office hours and office culture in the public schools. I signed a contract with a middle school in Taoyuan and it looks like a decent portion of my working hours will be outside of the classroom. Do most schools expect their teachers to be chained to their desk or is there a lot of freedom how to spend that time? Also, how do most teachers spend their working days during summer and winter vacation outside of the English camps? Thanks again for helping us all get an idea of what to expect!
Hi Ryan! Congrats on your new position. Taoyuan is a great city! Your "prep hours" are mean to be spent at your desk preparing for upcoming classes. Your school may offer flexibility with that but your work hours have to be accounted for and the easiest way for your school to do that is to "see" you in your workspace. And yes, I do have to do a summer and winter camp. My camps are 10 days and the subject of the camps will be given from your school or from your own imagination.
Thank you Ms Leah for this informative video. Very helpful for me being first time to teach in TW. I just want to know more what you have mentioned in your vlog about giving of test or exams. Is it really right that parents will give questions to be included in your test? thank you
Hello! I’d start with searching Facebook groups and tealit. com and use PE teacher as your search term. Otherwise you can also try Google with the term PE teacher, Taiwan, jobs. Hope that helps!!
Hi Leah, not sure if you already talked about applying for a resident visa and if it's possible to bring an iphone and get a sim card in Taiwan. Appreciate any help you could offer.
Hi Janet. I'm so sorry I'm so late to this response. I have not spoken in depth about a resident visa but yes it is possible to bring an iphone and get a sim card here in Taiwan! I have a 14 pro max i purchased in the states and it the new sim here in Taiwan took with no problems.
Thanks for sharing the experience. The first recruiting advertisement you showed in the video is from China.lol However, I believe there are probably Taiwanese schools doing something similar, and it's absolutely unacceptable...
Hi C C. You are correct about the screenshots!! These screenshots are from various ads for ESL teacher positions in Asia in general. Thank you for watching!!
Hello Leah. Can I ask an idea about English topic for Teaching Demonstration Video? I am planning to apply as Foreign English Teacher in Taiwan. Hoping for your response. Thank you 😊
Hello Sheina! English demo videos are a great way to show your wonderful personality but they will vary age and subject. What age group would you like to make a demo for?
Hi! Do they require teaching license? Also can you tell more about public schools and cram schools. What requirements do they need. Hoping for your response Thank you!
Hi Dan!! Public schools in Taiwan do require a teaching license. Cram schools, however, have their own requirements which differ from school to school to include the need (or no need) for a teaching license. I hope the "Requirements For Teaching ESL" video on my channel can help you with your second question. If there's something I missed that wasn't answered, please let me know. I'm happy to help! Thank you so much for watching. I hope the videos help.
@@LeahLivesAbroad Thank you so much for the response! Well this may be confidential, but do cram and public schools have a big difference when in terms of salary? Thank you so much!
@@chumburohizaruzz3644 Hi Dan! Public schools have a set salary determined by your education and experience. Cram schools offer a varying hourly salary that can often exceed a public school salary if you are flexible with the amount of hours you'd like to commit to and which cram school you're teaching with.
@@LeahLivesAbroad oh thank you for our reply im here in taiwan now working here but wanted to teach here but im just a Bachelor Degree In Accountancy Graduate Am I qualified?
Racism is ignorance across the board! In Asia, US, anywhere. It seems that in Asia it is overt and blatant, though. While in the US you can assume that you weren’t hired for being Black or Brown in Asia they tell you to not even apply based on the ads you showed. All of it, however, is horrible! It’s peaked my curiousity to search why they don’t have discrimination laws.
I think the bigger challenge for me was realizing there are different definitions of discrimination. Asia does not consider their preferences for white skin, or certain looks as discrimination. It's marketing and lawsuits are non existent here for this because this is their law, not ours (US). I can't change what is but I can change my reaction to it by still being genuinely myself to let parents, teachers, and schools have first hand experience to finding out people from all walks of life can be great people.
@@LeahLivesAbroad Although they don’t have laws in place that will hold them accountable for discriminating or being prejudice, they’re still discriminating and being prejudice. It is not a matter of interpretation; whether they consider themselves to be or not. I’m not judging you on your decision to continue teaching at their schools. I’m also not generalizing and saying they’re all this way, because that would be untrue and unfair.
@@aquariangypsy8892 Sooooooooo much to unpack in your statement Aquairan Gypsy. It is true. I sincerely think they know but there are several underlying factors relating to cultural expectations that are NOT being challenged in why this practice still continues to happen. As far as teaching, what a great opportunity to connect with people to show them what media, videos, and stereotypes have taught them is incorrect. Works 99% of the time. :-)
