She teaches middle school, all middle schoolers are like this! When I was in middle school, the teachers stopped giving pencils out after a month or two after school started for this exact reason
I can't tell if your being sarcastic but I honestly do find that a problem. Like since I have 6 different classes and 7 different teachers and in my 4th period class if you need to borrow a pencil you have to sacrifice a shoe. It wouldn't be that bad but I wear flip flops so I don't wear socks and I don't want anyone stepping on my toes. And my toe nails are like daggers and super long so I could easily cut someone if I or if the other person isn't careful enough.
You should start an extra credit or prize thing in class for students who look for abandoned pencils and bring them to you. I would have scoured the whole school before after school programs for that.
I know i’ve commented this before but I don’t think you saw it and it still might be a good solution: My teacher did this thing called pencil wars. At the start, each class had 5 pencils in their bin (there were designated bins for each class). Then, for a few weeks, maybe even like a month (you could go for however long you wanted) all the kids brought in pencils to fill their bins. You could use the pencils in the bin, but it caused your team (class) to have less pencils. The goal was to have the most pencils in the bin at the end out of all of the classes. Kids really remembered to bring their pencils to class and lots of them went all out to buy more. I remember one kid brought in like 700 pencils one day. Then, the teacher didn't have to buy pencils with her own money and we still had pencils that lasted for a long time. It was also a fun competition. I think we got donuts at the end or something (my class won). This could be a great way to solve your pencil problem!
My class did this is 5th grade each student would get 3 pencils in a toothbrush tube my teacher bought at dollar general and everyone would have a number, their number would be on the tube. By the end of she would replace those lost and the kids who had all 3 could get either candy or a sticker
My old art teacher had a rule where if you needed to borrow a pencil you'd have to give her a shoe.... everyone brought extra pencils after that one kid took his shoe off 😵💫
My french teacher had that rule 💀 Except you could trade him anything not just ur shoe, and at the end of class you give the pencil back, and take your item from the little box he had by his desk specifically for that rule lmao. One time i forgot my fanny pack in the box and came a few hours later to get it in the middle of him teaching his homeroom class and since hes really strict and no one likes him it was really hard and scary lmao
Taught elementary. Best solution I had was I gave each student a pencil at the beginning of the week with their name on it. On Friday they got a piece of chocolate if they turned in their pencil. I sharpened them and replaced when they got too short. Some used their own and never used mine. Students never lost them or broke them on purpose. Before I did this I went through a dozen or more pencils a week. It was worth the piece of chocolate.
@@lunafox9 I did have a couple diabetic children throughout my career. I could not use this for those 2 years. I would have changed it to stickers or coupons for free time or some similar non food item. Although the diabetic student I had could chew sugar free gum so that could have been an option as well.

My math teacher made a battle between all the class periods to test which class can receive the most pencils for a movie day. People started brings hundreds of pencils 💀
Perhaps have a system where students return school supplies. This will help them learn how to be more respectful and responsible with things that are shared.
or or or hear me out- remember the big idea is not to militarize or hinder their education, and just do what you can to make sure all kids have pencils so they can focus on greater things
@@succyamum4127 true. But my 17 year old classmates still broke the pens,I borrowed them, so some respect won't hurt. I know they're children, but this is kind of insane 😅
You should do the collateral system my civics teacher had. Basically, you had to give up something for a pencil, and then you would get it back at the end of class(typically, how collateral works). I always ended up putting my phone on the desk and grabbing a pencil. I loved the system so much. It was such a good help Edit: I did not proofread this comment before I posted it.
I use this, except I only accept shoes because they will walk out the door without literally anything else and forget to return my pencil (phones included), but they will notice immediately if they’re missing a shoe.
That’s what I do, they bring their back pack for a pencil and get it back when they return it. Before that rule, around 20 students needed pencils and now no more than 5 kids.
My teacher did that to my class once and it was hilarious because this kid in my class was just sitting there and he asked for a pencil and the teacher was like "give me your shoe" and during that class day he had 3 shoes on his desk just sitting there
@nasanerd2009 My sixth grade teacher did that with a student once! It didn't work, though, because the student walked out of the classroom without a shoe, apparently
Bro, there’s literally a pencil shortage in my school. Principal refuses to buy more pencils and everybody. It’s like getting yelled at because I have no pencils.
yeah, this is something parents/students were responsible for. and if you didnt have a pencil to do your school work. you didnt do school work. no pencil on test day. you fail the test. it was that simple.
@@ophelia1590 agreed -- it is called a life lesson -- if they can't keep track of a pencil today --what is going to happen when they grow up ? But I am sure that those who have phones are able to keep track of them !
As someone who used to clean floors in my elementary class room, (I still have a majority of the pencils) I ended up getting three whole pencil boxes of pencils by the end of the year. People leave pencils EVERYWHERE.
Our old head of maths used to make students hand over there phone in exchange for a pen. When phones had to stay in lockers it became shoes till other teachers complained and now apparently he chains them (welder in the Navy) to a 10kg weight
I put my students on a pencil probation once because I found so many of the ones I gave out snapped in half on the floor. So for a week they had to figure it out themselves. I taught 8th grade by the way so old enough to know better and to ask a friend for one.
You can’t leave your belongings outside in public and expect them to make their way back to you. This would be a great way to learn that. My teachers never gave out pencils, it was our responsibility to remember them. This comment is silly. You’re silly.
in this case, it appears to be her pencils that she gives out -- and they chose not to be respectful to return. I you had a special pencil and you lost it, not finding it will help you remember to keep track of the next one you had.
I'm a custodian who throws 45 pencils a day away. I used to pick them all up but if teachers aren't going to walk around and pick up the necessity for every class why should I have to pick them up to clean their messy ass floors? They get swept up like the rest of the trash.
Imagine seeing your teacher outside collecting pencils cus there's no more, I would be disgusted cus idk who's hands been on those pencils, that's why I always have my own💀

A tip my teacher did was everyone got 2 or 3 pencils with there names on (usually it was 2) and then you would put it in the pot. Everyday we would get a pencil but if you lost all your pencils then you had to go and get one from the older years classroom (nobody liked that) and only 1 kid lost all of his pencils (but it was okay cause he had one in his bag)
i would say as a recommendation that it’s probably for the best that the kids pick up anything they see on the floor at the end of the day or they don’t get released because my teacher pulled that strategy and it makes the floor look sparkling every time!
I swear there is always this group of kids who never bring pencils to class so they steal all the teacher’s pencils and complain that they don’t have any more pencils
I feel ya. I'm always amazed and a bit flummoxed at how each student has two pencils in the morning, but lose both by the end of day; even when we give them pencil pouches. ugggg! :-O
i always collected pencils, pens, and erasers from the floor as a kid. never had to buy or borrow supplies and even got an eraser i used for YEARS out of it lol
I would always end the year with two or three times as many pencils as I started the year with because of how many I'd find on the floor, left on desks, and left in band.
I worked a few months cleaning classrooms and the amount of pencils I would find on the floor is insane! I would gather them all and put it on the table for the teacher.
I remember I had a teacher last year that when you went in the classroom and you needed a pencil you would just look at the floor and there you had a new pencil it was almost impossible not to find one🤣
So I have an idea for you I’m also a teacher so we have a jar full of marbles when my class does something good or if they are good they take out a marble and when all the marbles are out we have a party! And if there bad then you put one in that’s why I’m thinking for pencils if they put them away then they take out a marble if they don’t then put one in🤫 thank me later:)
I worked as a janitor for a middle school for some time. First thing I’d do is fix all the tables n chairs. Immediately pick up all the Pens pencils markers highlighters even erasers I’d find and set them by the door or somewhere noticeable after cleaning. Idk but every class had at least 1 on the floor.
