Teaching My Kids To Curse (heres why...) 

Stranger danger is important but what is more important is the fact that most of the time, it’s people they do know. We teach about strange behavior, not just people they don’t know. Strange behavior is like adults asking them to keep secrets from you, adults asking them to do inappropriate things, etc.

Zoe also tell your kids that no one is to touch them inappropriately even those in there inner circle. Your doing a great job teaching your kids the reality of life. They have such precious and pure souls.

that is so super important to teach your kids and so sad and terrifying that we are living in the world where we need to teach kids how to protect themself in such a young age, wishing you all safe life!

I disagree with the rationale. I think if a stranger heard a kid cursing they might just think of them as a child that's not behaving with a parent. I would instead teach them to yell something like "I don't know this person" or "this is not my mom/dad"

Though I don’t think cussing is a necessary part of it I think it’s great that you are having these kind of conversations regularly. One thing you need to add is talking about other kids. The 1st time someone was abusive physically was an elementary “boyfriend” who was mad because I didn’t allow sexual contact to happen. I didn’t tell my mother about it because he was a kid and I didn’t realize it was the same thing. It wasn’t until some major problems happen (he got me in trouble for defending myself from his attack, he shoved my head into a brick wall, and he had his mom come scream at me at our daycare after I refused to French kiss him again) that I finally told her the whole story. A few years later I was molested by a friends older brother. Though he was close to being an adult he was still in school and was still at the time seen as a pier. I knew that was wrong thankfully but didn’t tell my mom for a few months. It actually came up because she was asking us questions about if anything had happened and if we knew what to do if it did. I had just recently told my sister with a group of friends and so my sister told her what happened. My point is it can be very confusing to have a pier/another kid attack you or proposition you, but it happened to me at 6/7 years old. Adults are not the only worry. Sometimes it’s a curious child, a child who is getting abused, or a child reenacting something they saw. Either way prepare them for any eventuality and make sure they can always tell you anything. You’d far rather have a child who tattles than a child who doesn’t know they can tell you when something happens!

A better thing to teach your kids is to tell things like "No, Your not my mum/dad" "I don't know you leave me alone" otherwise it may just look like a kid having a meltdown swearing at their parents.

I think it's important to explain that even family and people you know can be a danger if they do something that makes them uncomfortable. Just because its family/not a stranger does not mean it's ok. Strangers can use ways like asking if you can help find my puppy to lure them away. Strangers don't look like scary monsters. They look like regular people.

I raise chickens & they're so fun!! If you let them free range make sure they're secure at night, predators are real & sneaky. They can jump a fence so you may need to clip their wings. Hens are Excellent but Roosters are not always mean. I have 3, my main Rooster Tommy is an absolute sweetheart, it just depends on how you raise them. I do suggest at least one rooster bc thwy keep the hens safe, they will literally die for their girls.

That is a good thing to teach them stranger danger. You two are doing a wonderful job raising your kids it is important to teach your kids to be safe and what to do when their in trouble like a stranger taking them or anything like that. Good stuff, its important for kids to be strong and to be tough, nothing wrong with learning curse words because they will end up using them a lot in life. Kind words and being a soft touch will not benifit anyone in the long run.

Don't forget to check local rules and laws for the chickens. When we got ours we needed to take a class and was only allowed a few within city limits. This will be a great learning tool for the kids!! 🥰

My kids love learning about stranger danger. They’re 2 and 3 and I try to tell them many many ways that strangers can try to lure them in. It’s a scary world and a lot of the time I feel like crying when we talk about it. It’s so important.

i have chickens and they’re honestly a lot easier than you think. daily water and feeding with collecting eggs once they start. i clean my coop once a month or a needed. i love having my chickens they have become my best friends

Chicken owner here. Make sure you keep the coop raised so digging predators can't get in. It's also good to add dried and crushed oregano and dried and crushed red peppers to their food as a natural antibiotic/ dewormer and for egg production. I would own a rooster because they help protect the girls, and as long as you get them young and handle them with love and care, they will be very friendly. Make sure you feed them food scrapes as well as a treat such as pumpkins and watermelon etc. It helps stop food waste and they love it!!

My advice for owning chickens is use hardware cloth instead of chicken wire because the holes are smaller and make it so less predators can get in your coop. Also put the wire under the ground too so predators cannot dig underneath your coop. Use gravel to cover the wire up because predators don’t like digging in gravel.Make sure know how much space is comfortable for your chickens too. Have fun!!

Make sure you put the coop as far from the house as you can. Mice are attracted to the feed from chickens! Silkies are SO much fun!

Chickens!!! I had them when I was growing up and it was the BEST experience. I loved them, we had 10 and I named them all. We're currently looking for our first house and it is a REQUIREMENT that were allowed to have chickens in that town. Definitely dig the yard up a little so you can set the fence down in or the wildlife will dig under the fence to get them. And make sure it doesn't get too cold in the winter for them! Honestly, running electric for heat is worth it. We lost one of our babies to freezing during a winter and it was heartbreaking. SO EXCITED FOR THIS FOR YOU!!!

I have some chickens and dont be surprised if they they die easily we use to have like 8 now we have 2 so we are planing to get more but if your wanting them to lay eggs theres this stuff you can buy to make the shell harder so it doesnt break easilyits called shellgrit it really does help

Getting chickens is a fun and exciting adventure! If it gets to be to much, you can always re-home them. Maybe it will be great and rewarding?! Don’t deny yourself experiences based on fear! Do your research and go for it! Your family writes its own story and that story can change any time you choose it to! Good luck! **if you need a rooster to have eggs, then you should get one! Idk anything about this, but if you can produce your own healthy eggs to provide for your family, you definitely should do it!

Dont listen to the people who said "only get hens" "dont get rooster's they will grow up territorial" You need to get young chickens I live on a farm, I'm 13 and have been going down to my barn and feeding and getting the eggs since I was 4 so I know a lot about chickens, Roosters will not be defensive of themselves if you get them young, You need young hens and young roosters, If not he will be defensive if he is a mature chicken, so what I am saying, is that the people saying dont get rooster's are wrong because if they say that they are doing chickens wrong. Your rooster has to grow up with your hens if not the rooster will attack and how ever many rooster you get now, is how many you will have for a while, So like I have 18 hens and 2 roosters, about 15-20 eggs each day, so if you want fresh eggs you have to have a rooster, so you indeed need atleast 6-10 hens and atleast 1 rooster, the hens will produce eggs later on, when they are a bigger and older. And make sure your kids grow up with the chickens every day while the chicks are young that way when they get older the chickens wont be scared of your kids like mine when I go to feed them everyday they walk beside be waiting to be fed.

Hey guys ❤️ I've had three Silkies before and they are beautiful chicken's, except I ended up with one Rooster🐓. Which doesn't work in Suburbia, they are extremely loud, and neighbours next door reported me as Roosters arnt generally aloud unless you live in the country. I also had one little Frizzle chicken which I got before the Silkies from a horrible home. I named her Karlee. She was the most awesome Little Chicken and was like a Dog Chicken..❤️ followed me everywhere, would even get up on our outside cane lounge and the edges were flat enough for her to walk along it and she would go behind me, pick at my earnings, then she would climb on my shoulder, put her little head against mine & sleep❤️ Her eggs were also little & so cute. I absolutely loved her❤️ Unfortunately I let her free roam of a day. I went to pick my son up from school one day, just fed Karlee, all was good. 20 minutes later we arrived home. I went out the back to check on her...and found her Dead!!!! A bloody Chicken Hawk had spotted her, came down, grabbed her and smashed her into my Guinea pigs cage, broke her neck, and had ripped the back of her neck out. To say I was absolutely devastated is an understatement and I have never gotten over how she died, and blame myself for be not knowing or even thinking about a bird of Prey getting her. I'm not telling you this to upset you, but the person who said make sure you have a secure roof is correct. Your pen needs to be both snake, cat & Bird proofed, it only takes once, and I don't want you guys & your kid's to ever have to go through this, or have another little chicken suffer from a Hawk or by even a Snake or cat attack. Also if you are able to move your pen around that is great, as it really needs to be moveable due to the waste..poop, pee they produce. A pen that can't be moved is not at all practical. For the chickens in the coop put down some tarpaulin or cut up dog feed bags or anything that you can put down at the bottom of the hen house and when your cleaning it out you can pull them out and hose them down much easier to clean and then you can use straw or other bedding to put on the top

If you’re on Facebook you should join some Chicken caretaking/husbandry groups! Also you may want to look into putting a net over the chicken area to avoid hawks swooping in and grabbing them.

I would also teach them that people they DO know can also be capable of harming them. My sister was molested by our grandpa. We never would’ve thought he’d do something like that but he did and got away with it for much longer than he should’ve.

I LOVE SILKIES ,make sure that you pay attention if there are more than one rooster (even if they say it's all hens there is still a chance ) AND DONT USE A HEAT LAMP IN THE COOP . ITS A HUGE FIRE HAZARD also make sure they have ventilation in there coop

You need Water dish And If you Have a lot or just any Put a heater in there if it's cold And a food dish never feed them at night get shavings for the coop and Just refill that everyday and check on them and Change the shavings

Here you guys are shoveling tree and raking and we here in the north are shoveling. Sooooooo cold here wind chill of -45 current temp at 930am today December 20th is 5 degrees. Yes 5 freaking degrees!! 🥶🥶💨

we have chickens and we love them!! but yes only hens, try to have a predator proof set up. we let ours free range. The eggs are such a reward and so fun to find!

Also something you can use. Safe words. Somebody comes up to your child and says hey your mom told me to pick you up from school. Kid asks said person for the safe word. A word only you, your child , and safe person know. If they don't know the word, teach the kids how to get a safe adult to protect them. 💕

I have chickens and just so you know is to NEVER open the door to the coop when you aren’t around. They will get free .

Chickens can be a large amount of work. They eat a lot and they poop a lot. They are also extremely easy prey so if you make them a pen put chicken wire under ground so that animals can't dig under it. Idk what kind of animals you guys have in your area but raccoons and such will climb. Always close them in the coop at night and if they are free roaming in the day, keep an eye on them. The chicken Wilder wants is a Silkie, which make good pets, but if you want eggs I would highly suggest the buff orpington as they are very friendly and also produce large eggs. I think we have around 10 chickens which is a lot. I would suggest getting like 4 at the most to begin with. If you are willing to put in the work to keep them, their eggs are definitely worth it.

I think it an important conversation to have, but like others have said its also key that they know to be wary of people in their circle too. There can be a stranger at the store that will hand them candy as a way of being nice, and then there can be people that they know that can act inappropriately. I don't know if having that type of conversation before bed is a good idea though; i would hate the thought of them getting nightmares about strangers taking them. As for the chickens; why don't you get the kids involved in getting everything ready? it might be a great learning experience knowing what goes into it, how to keep them safe and how to look after them properly

I have chicken advice. 1 get a chicken coop but also a closed area with a tall fence and a roof so they can walk around without being in the yard and possible getting attacked by a creature (you can still let them into the yard just I recommend you supervise them If they are). 2. Get a heat lamp for during the winter 3. Get something to put food and water in

Omg I thought I was the only one lol I too Paint my chickens nails.we have 25 chickens they r great pets very friendly u can train them very easy I yell hi girls and they come running every morning they know to come to a certain spot for there treats there fav is grapes.we have rod island red, white leg horn,barrer rocks,Easter Eggers and some kind of lavenders and silkies the most friendliest is the rod island reds.

hi Zoe!! I see that your getting chickens soon so i thought id give u sum advice bc I have some chickens myself !! when buying chicks you have to keep them inside in a container that’s covered bc when they get older they start jumping out. You wanna keep them inside for atleast 2 or 3 months just so that if your putting them inside a coop they can’t slip out. They need a heating lamp while there inside until there ready to go out. Not hating but try not to paint there nails because they bite there nails sometimes and you don’t want them to ingest the nail polish and all the harmful chemicals. And if you want to let them free range you have to keep a close eye on them. all sorts of animals will try and get them. I’ve had a friend who’s rooster got picked off by hawks. for the setup your gonna need • shavings/hay • water/feeders Chicken coops can be found at a local tractor supply, you can either buy it there or order it online. I did both. picking it up is more easier bc getting it shipped takes way longer and there’s a risk it could come damaged. I also recommend if your chickens ever get sick, get ivermectin for birds, you just put some in there water and they’ll get better, but yeah that’s all for now, I hoped this helped you guys!! It's actually a good idea to teach your kid to cuss in those situations people might not care if they just hear a kid yelling but a kid cussing would draw attention.

I have chickens! I dont know where you live but if It gets cold put PLASTIC around there coop we do that and our chickens stay somewhat warm throughout the cold winter! Also I think you guys are amazing parents to your kids it really shows in how they act! Wilders "thankyou" to the popsicle was so wholesome

CHICKEN TIP! They are like pigs and will eat anything. Don’t throw away food, throw it to the chickens. We used to get a bucket in the fridge & fill it up for a couple days, then dump it for the chickens to eat! They love watermelon!
