One of the many reasons i love your guy's stuff is that you actually show just how much work and fineness goes into these jobs that otherwise some people might think aren't too hard, mad respect to you and all the mechanics out there who keep us safe and having a good time on the road!
I really appreciate how hes willing to teach and his delivery is really impeccable, also kudos to everyone who is willing to take the time to learn and not just get all huffy about it lol
Respect to "junior" for wanting to learn and to "doctor" for being a good teacher. I never knew the nitty-gritty on doing a wheel alignment, thanks for publishing a great video.
This was one of my favorite things when I went to school for Auto technology. Always loved our Hunter machine. This one is super different from what I worked on so it's cool to see how the science behind it has advanced!!!
Get a hunter alignment machine with the different pads they basically hug the tire it take less than 2 mins to set the car up to roll forward only! Fastest machine I used!
Great training! Alignments are easy money! I prefer the WinAlign setup. I also hop inside the vehicle for the front to back then back to forward and steering wheel when setting it up all before I lift the vehicle. It’s been significantly easier and faster for me to do it that way. I can do alignments in about 5 minutes on 2 wheel alignments to 20 minutes on messed up 4 wheel alignments.
Now this is educational. i did already have an idea but this is a brand new world for me. Still you need to no.step 1 make sure the wheel bearings on the car are not worn out. Step 2 select the right car and model year step 3 make sure the alignment tools are on the correct side. Step 4 make sure they are level. step 5 align the wheels and make sure there are no broken or bend or rusted out parts. Step 5 if needed replace parts Step 6 align the 5 wheels (this includes the steering wheel) Step 7 drive the car do a left right corner test and a brake test making sure the car stops in a straight line. step 8 park the car or do editional work using pre-used steps.
Wish my instructor would do stuff like this at our technical school so i could have gotten a better idea of how to do it at first. I somewhat understand it now but im still learning
I took my car 3 times to Acura, 2 times to a local shop and finally to another local shop until my alignment was done correctly. I’m convinced they are not easy, require someone with a lot of experience and the machine has to be good. Total cost me $500.
I had general knowledge qbout how to do an alignment on a newer car but the first time i really did an alignment myself was on my '01 s10 after i had spun out on a back road. Luckily nothing was damaged to much except for maybe my rims getting scratched up but i decided to make sure anyway. So i went into work early so i could check the front end to inspect all the parts and the day after took it to school so I'd have time to do the alignment myself. Used a hunter machine and damn that thing was out of wack. Toe wasnt bad but front caster and camber were pretty bad especially on the left side. The right it was around 4.5 degrees and the left the camber was around 6.8 degrees. What's really insane is that the truck still was driving straight. Unfortunately for me this thing has the old shim style adjustments and the left side did not want to cooperate at all. I just got both sides dialed in as best i could, only getting a couple degrees on each side. Truck drove fine and 3 weeks later i found that all the front shims i had put in on the left side popped out. Decided not to go back and fix it just because the truck so drives straight(probably out of pure spite) and i really don't care if it causes more wear to much because i plan on ls swapping it in the near future and i was going to tear the front end apart anyway while i was at it to make sure it has everything it needs to be solid. The thing is a 20 year old mini truck that to my knowledge has been in the rust belt the entire time and I'm planning on going from 120hp 4 banger to a 200-300hp ls powered daily driver and still have a manual transmission. I'd have to be extremely stupid not to do work to the front end.
NGL i want to find a shop that would teach me to understand these things, even if I am not a tech/mechanic. I just want to learn so that I wouldn't get scammed and so that I would know what my car needs and when it needs it.
Who's going to factor in the weight of items inside the vehicle. You add 100lbs to the vehicle, its going to shift the camber off, not by much but once you relax the bolts, good luck getting it correct again.
