In this video I talk about teaching students how to study. Though we believe they should have learned this skill by the time they show up to our classroom, the reality is: not so much. And while there are many ways to teach them this skill, I keep it as basic as possible: notecards and longhand summaries.

Great ideas and I agree trying to minimize homework is a goal since most of our students do a full day of a school and have extracurricular activities and or jobs. I’m going to start building in time for students to not just discuss questions but to hand write a summary

These are really great ideas to make connections. Is there a specific technique to do these summaries?

Hi Steve, just curious do you assign the notecards for reading the text? After you lecture? (If you lecture)
