it's so cute seeing younger girls play!! im a sophomore on a varsity high school team and i remember working my butt off on my approach, it was my biggest struggle. it just takes practice!

tbh this channel is really great. you could actually learn from this. I learned how to under and over hand serve, pass from this channel and it showed really good results in my playing. 😃

This is glorious, been searching for "high school volleyball drills practice" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Renndrew Volleyball Victimless - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.

These coaching tips seem to be easy and fun for kids ! I like it. Footwalk practice involve group work . And throwing the tennis ball will not bring on failure of hitting which make kids frustrated.

Even though I played volleyball, I had a bit of trouble coaching my 3 daughters on hitting. I just did it and had a hard time breaking it down for how to teach someone. I've read books and watched other players and never really got a simple, solid breakdown that worked. This is outstanding, though. Thank you for sharing this. Wish I had seen it when they were all younger. -Sean

I've been coaching everything from 6th grade to Junior college level and I realize one of the best things that work is making the kids watch the videos and they really pick up what they need to do.

I take pool noodles, and cut them length wise into strips, then lay them down on the floor for the athletes to hop over instead of placing a person on the floor. I get them at the dollar store around spring time. An inexpensive training tool. Our club teaches almost the exact same way. Some of our ters are different, but all of the technique is very similar. Good work coach!

Thank you! What would recommend for full hour practice drills for 5th graders returning to volleyball after not playing for 9 months? Rotation of serving, passing back and forth, setting and return? I'm a volunteer coach with nothing but community fun volleyball. I want them to learn correctly, but also want them to have fun. I know that I've neglected the footwork and love the drill where they switch out being the person being jumped over for the right/left at the end. Will definitely be using this. I really appreciate your explanations as well as the drills. Thank you!

I teach it in multiple steps. I start with pressure on the left leg after which I make them step right-left. No jumping yet, so I can focus on the position of their feet. after that I continue with a jump and make them throw a tennisbal over the net. When this is technically correct I start adding the first left step. I teach 11/12 year olds and within 4 training hours this goes perfectly. In every step I make them clap their hands.

the facing the setter idea is Mainly for hitters who are hitting cross. if they go for line hit the will be more prone to back injury do to the amount of hip twisting they do. TENNIS BALL IDEA IS AMAZING THOUGH

What controls the direction of your hit? Is it shoulder being square to target or follow through. And where should the ball be positioned when hitting? Is it in the center, above your head or off center so arm movement is straight?

I like this video a lot!!! I think that it is equally important though to show your kids how to land properly though. Tendinitis or Jumper's knee is a common flare in the knee because of kids not landing the correct way. I like to emphasize "coming to balance" when my kids land.

But I want to ask, for beginners, are they know what to do with their arms for spiking to ball after they jump up just by following these step you suggest? Coz I did not see you have teach them how should their arm spike after they jump up. Love this video, thanks so much:)

Have you played the game? The reason you turn your left leg slightly inwards so you are facing the setter is precisely to convert your forward momentum into vertical power by loading your legs. If you don't do that then your forward momentum remains forward when you actually want to go up at that point. Also, your choice of attacks is determined by the angle at which your hand strikes the ball. If you telegraph your attack vector by changing your body angle, any good blocker will read that, ROOF

+Jan L. Hitting and serving !!!
@janicel.9634
@janicel.9634 8 лет назад
well for serving, make sure to pull your elbows back (i liek to think of it as a bow and arrow), and your toss should be in front of you not on top of you. If you keep your arm straight in front of you and toss that shouldn't be a problem. Hitting, well it's all momentum and timing. when the ball hits the apex (highest point) start approaching. I do the three step approach (as did this video). If you're a righty it's left right left. My right foot is out first, and when i take my first step i start swinging my arms back lol I hope i helped a little bit, im not that great at explaining haha

I’m still really struggling with timing when I should start moving my feet? When do I know when to go?
@alicesteman2720
@alicesteman2720 3 года назад
It depends what position you play. Outside, wait until the setter has set the ball and is out of her hands before you go. Be prepared to wait longer if the set is really high. Middle, for a normal set, wait until the setter has set the ball. But, for quicks follow the ball. Right side, wait until the ball is at its highest point.

Finally, if you apply this theory to a right-side hitter (from zone 2), would they have to turn their back to the setter? Or reverse their footwork?

I bust my legs wide open, and I'm not saying one infront of another in my jump but i still manage the steps and to hit properly and have enough power... it looks funny, but is it bad?
@Phovley
@Phovley 12 лет назад
By not ending with your feet towards the setter, you lose all the power that comes from a full body rotation with your swing. If you face forward, the only power you can get is from your arm swing. You also run the risk of jumping too much forward into the net, instead of shooting your momentum upwards for more vertical.
