Just for @CMONGames to see the impact of content creators - I have jumped into Song thanks to this specific video. One month later I have played more Song games than I have played GW games in the whole 2023. Great batrep of my new favourite wargame.
While I would hate to see you switch completely away from painting videos... Holy heck, this battle report is impressive! The production quality and presentation is just... *Chef's kiss*.
I have never been able to watch a battle report for a tabletop war game before because they're usually so boring. This battle report is incredibly engaging, perfectly paced, incredibly well produced, and taught me rules as I needed to know them. Really, really well done Scott. This clearly took a MASSIVE amount of time, but I would start watching more battle reports if they were more like this!
Your level of commitment to making this battle report absolutely incredible is viscerally evident. Hats off to you, this was hands-down the best batrep on RU-vid!
At best, I get through 25% of battle reports before turning them off.. I was SO engaged this whole time. Absolute 10/10 ! That's so much work to get this quality, 2 quality people aswell 👏👏👏
Fantastic video and a great intro to ASOIAF for new players. I hope this battle report kindles interest in some folks who may never have heard of ASOIAF or have never seen it on the table. With the Old World coming out, I think ASOIAF stands as a fantastic alternative to that game, and hopefully the resurgence of interest in rank-and-file games will spill over into ASOIAF. It's a fantastic game that deserves more attention. Thanks for continuing to evangelize this fine game!
I can't overstate how good this video is. Not only has it provided a fantastic insight into a game I previously had no interest in and now I am looking into because of this, I think this also sets a new "gold standard" for gameplay videos. I really hope you enjoyed this and the final product is worth it for you because we would LOVE to see more like this - even if it's just more ASOIAF videos!
This video is unbelievable for a couple-person team. Amazing work, the shots, the animations, the interviews, everything was great and I am a fan of long videos. I hear a lot of RU-vidrs say that their videos are too long. Well, I say they aren't long enough. Excited to see more of these videos.
Scott this was the most engaging Battle Report I've watched. Glad to see two buds having a great time killing each other on the board while giving a quality run down of the game!
The quality on this was insanely good. You should be super proud of it Scott, also it was adorable watching you and Curtis talk about each other. That's a powerful friendship.
I have been consuming battle reports for a long time, this one is so refreshing in his quality. I mean, you even put coloured lights on each side to match the armies. The editing, the games resources, the shots, everything is so neat. I hope to see more of this ! Well done !
I truly enjoyed this video, start to finish, despite my being much more an RPG player myserl than a war gamer. The interaction between the pair of you was enjoyable from start to finish, and for me, that's what ALL gaming is about, the interplay between humans who truly enjoy sharing time and experiences with each other, and this video was full to the brim with that kind of wonderful energy. Might even watch it again. 😉😉
They’re having fun with it, not taking it too seriously, whilst acknowledging the significance of the lore. This is how the game was meant to be played.
Gotta say, I love this kind of battle report so much. A nice mixture of dudes genuinely having a fun time and a level of polish that helps the viewers follow what’s happening. Keep up the good work!
I love this game! I’ve played it a bit pre-covid but I moved city and there’s not a big scener for ASoiaF here in Sweden so I’ve not played it in years.I just remember that it was by far my favourite war game from a pure rules perspective! If you haven’t tried the siege battle yet I can recommend it, it was an awesome experience!
I was wondering if there were any swedes playing, good to know! Bought a decent amount of minis for it recently, looks like a really great game. Not living in the Gothenburg area by any chance?
This video is the perfect battle report format. Thanks a lot for putting it together! Also, it totally gave me the bug and I can't take my mind off the game. I really wish I could watch more of ASOIAF battle reports!
Really one of the best battle reports I’ve ever seen. You’ve got a great formula here. I’d always watch something like this in the future. You’ve managed a good mix of explaining the game and letting the personalities of the players show through. Way to capture the fun of a trash talking game with a frenemy. Also cool that my shirt now references more than a pilot.
This was fantastic! You did such a great job getting across why the game is mechanically cool without begin too bogged down to show clearly why it's fun. Great battle report! And to show how gaming together sustains and strengthens friendships is an amazing tribute to both the hobby and the kind of chosen family it can help create. Thanks so much for all the work you put in to share this with us!
The genuine fun you're both having throughout the game is what I enjoyed most in this video. Somehow you captured your sincere friendship in form of a battel report! Thanks for all the hard work you put into this one!
The small amount of video work I have done makes me respect the crispy editing you've done here all the more, this is an amazing style and I at least appreciate the effort you've put in. Well done my man.
Those dice rolls were painful to watch, Scott. You have my sympathies! Dice aside, amazing production value all around, this is gonna be the gold standard for introducing people to the game.
This was super fun to watch! You can feel it was a labor of love. It made me actually want to give ASOIAF a try. Also, I loved hearing you guys talk about your friendship at the end. It was very touching. I teared up listening to Curtis
@43:10 - It's okay, Scott, we can workshop jokes. How about: "Flayed Men retreating? More like Afraid Men, amirite?" Serious talk, this was great, thanks for sharing this video. Can't wait to see more.
The game isn’t bad, but to me Kings of War is better, and WHFB/TOW are my favourite games of all time. On top of that, there is just no community at all for the game. We play WHFB (and starting tomorrow TOW) every weekend. We play KoW maybe once a month for a quick game. My lady enjoys playing it, but that’s incredibly rare. So maybe once a month or so my Starks crush his Lannisters (maybe it doesn’t always go like that), then we throw them back in the box. Wirh the release of TOW, it might be months before we play any other game. We have a lot of armies to learn to play. 30 years of my best friend collecting WHFB. We also have a “Best ever in the world (of the two of us)” title, which he holds after his Warriors of Chaos decimated my Night Goblins as we attempted to protect our magic mushrooms from the loving embrace of Nurgle.
This was an amazing BatRep! Long time since i saw such an entertaining Matchup. Good and simple visuals and great chemistry between you two! Hope to see more BatReps from you in the future. PS: A great "how to play" aswell ... you should copy this part as a stand alone video!
Hi guys: love the video. I would like to get into this game and I'll ask you the same question everyone else asks: What would be a good starter set to purchase. I'll be playing solo, two handed to learn the game. Also If you recommend the game if you could provide a link to the rules of that partictular starter set. Thanks again! Greg
Hell on Earth Scott?! That was an holy moly guacamole, motherflippin, good ass production! (Sorry if I swear a little here and there). Excellent Video, even if I don´t play the game!
Discovering this 5 months later, having just started playing this game and really loving it. And, best format for battle reports. I would love to see more.
First, this is an excellent battle report, because even though I did not care about the game before watching it, I now desperately want to play it, and feel like I could, thanks to the rules explanations. Second, this skirmishy, activation-based, token-heavy game really reminds me of Warzone, my favorite wargame of all time, which had its hayday in the late 90s around my place. Ah the memories...
One of your best videos ever bro! I’ve been a LONG time watcher(prob not all on this account lol) but this is the BEST battle report I’ve ever seen! Love it! Amazing painter and amazing battle reporter-er?
Hey Scott. Great BP. Love the effort you put into the game against your nemesis. Are you interested in doing a BP about Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings. There are very rare out there with a high production quality like this.
I got the Stark vs. Lannister starter box for Christmas and I'm so excited to give this game a try! This makes me even more excited to play! Now I just need to slowly coax my friends into playing with me 🤣.
Just wanted to say that I love how well-produced this video is, but the squeaky whiteboard sound effect when you circle something is horrific. It makes the hairs stand up on my neck and makes my teeth feel itchy. Very unpleasant, but great video.
As a fellow Greyjoy enjoyer, I agree with your conclusion of sending it earlier with a 7pt unit. Silenced Men with 2 pillage tokens can absolutely delete trays off the board!
This was a fun watch. I don’t think you need to go in depth explaining the rules and just focus more on the fun you’re having. . You and John talked about this on the podcast, and I agree. Either way I’m going to keep watching these.
As a rule, I don't watch battle reports. But I also don't skip videos on this channel and I'm glad I didn't this time. Really enjoyable report from start to finish, and it was great to see Curtis' develop from slightly hesitant to confident and charismatic by the end.
I like the added explanations and the overall style was fun to watch. Tho i missed the mindless slaughter at first, the video shows perfectly what asoiaf battles are about, a really good vid to show others the non-combat stuff thats going on with the cards and nco's. I asked myself, if the game could be played with bigger armies. A variation to throw in nowandthen to have a more "traditional" feeling battle. Does someone have any experience with such a thing?
went to a game convention yesterday, on the look out especially for an interesting wargame, and there were plenty being actually played, but this was so much more interesting (and beautifully edited, with the behind-the-scenes 'thoughts' interjections - very cool and helpful to follow the game and increase the engagement). I really hope this video does well for you and gets a sequal later, but i feel the game itself is a big factor in the success of the video as well; it might be quite unknown, or at least compared to warhammer the old world at this moment. I would love to see some content from you on warhammer the old world, battle report or just opinions and feelings. Good luck!
I know these are a ton of work, but it really shows. I really like when you approach the hobby from a more wholistic side. I enjoy hearing you talk about board games, game design, tabletop, and general hobby stuff.
i have to thank you and damn you cause you have now got me into ASOIAF and im looking at houses and wondering what i'm gonna get. Martell or Night's Watch
Damn, what a fantastic video! I’m sure it took a ton of effort with the transitions and animations but IT SHOWS. Congratulations, this is one to be proud of
This video made me go back into the game. Played a lot but sold it a couple of years ago (not sure why) but now I have bought 3 starter sets and new units just because of this video... awesome!
This was one of the very best battle Reports I have seen, and I have watched a lot. Every move was well announced and you ensured everything was able to be heard and seen as the game progressed. Definitely wish you would do more song content. Excellent quality.
Have you thought about taking a step away from content creation and work FOR an agency and taking a step up the food chain? You have a lot of experience that would help others.
