It took me a long time to realize it was Teagan in the Hera demo (I only realized it because I saw a comment mentioning it) and yeah, I can definitely hear the Cher aspect. I am so excited to find out who voices Hera.

I didn't know that "belting" is an actual term in music. I assumed it was just another phrase coined by some unknown person that just stuck in people's heads in regard to that specific style, but had no official definition. Fascinating.

It sounds like both League players and people who have never even heard of it all went totally crazy for the show. Szn 2 comes out in November! I'm friends with the guy that writes a lot of the music for it -- he's a GENIUS

I was a gifted reader when I was a kid but "Phantom of the Opera" at 12?! DAMN. I may just be shocked because I attended a high school performance of it and understood NONE of it because I'm so inexperienced with processing lyrics with opera. Prior to that, my only exposure to opera was in Italian, which I don't speak, so I never had to try to understand. 😅 And the only lyrics-only stage show I'm familiar with is Hamilton, and I can't remember what year I saw the performance, so I may not have even known about Hamilton then.

It was originally a novel, which is what I assume she read. I wouldn't consider it a hard read for a 12 year old tbh. The story is no more complex than Romeo and Juliet which I read at age 12, with the added benefit of not being written in Shakespearan English.

@@disableddragonborn That's fair if you were new to sung-through musicals (no dialogue, just singing). It's an interesting tale, but it's really just a ghost story where a phantom competes for the love of an opera singer. Some mystery, some intrigue, but a straightforeward enough read. Did you watch a lot of musicals prior to that HS performance? There are several famous sung-through musicals that come to mind such as Les Misérables, Cats, Wicked, etc. I think kids who grew up watching those shows could probably watch Phantom and not struggle too hard with deciphering the lyrics. But if you were new the musicals then that'a a different story. Like showing Rap to someone who has only listened to Country Music and expecting them to be able to pick out more than 20% of what's being said.
