In Overwatch Pharah has a voice line saying "Rocket jumping ? Isn't that too dangerous ?" and Mercy, upon killing someone, will sometimes say "Medic ! Oh wait, that's me."
@@pearsareawful9006 Tf2 is the most iconic for both of these, and seeing as overwatch and tf2 are the same type of game, it makes more sense to assume they are references.
@@pearsareawful9006 While Quake 1 and the Arena games are the pioneers of the art, TF2 was the game to perfect the model and became the game with the most iconic instance of it. Also given how Overwatch had this whole thing back then, a tongue-in-cheek joke wouldn't be too far off.
Also in Overwatch Zarya does tell your teammate that "You are a credit to the team!" when they get multiple kills and (if I remember right) when Zarya uses Symmetra's teleporter.
i especially love 2:16 because its confirmed that louis is a gamer, he also has a couple of quotes referring to counter-strike and half-life it happens a bit to ellis too but its not as much
"From what I know of videogames, vent crawlin' is a good thing." "If video games have taught me anything, it's that you can always find cool shit in vents." - Ellis L4D2
I like the range of scale of these references. Some of them are like “there is a heavy in a corner” and others are like “the pyro is a playable character”
There's (technically) a TF2 reference in the Binding of Isaac: Repentance as well. Two of the bosses in that game use the exact same bomb design as the Iron Bomber in one of his attacks. That's because the main developer of the mod that got turned into the Repentance DLC is also the person who submitted the Iron Bomber model to the Steam Workshop.
2:59 I love how this might imply that in the Left 4 Dead universe, Team Fortress 2 was such a successful game that it spawned it's own fast food chain.
There’s also a reference to TF2 in the game “Noita,” in which it’s possible to find a flask of urine, which, along with being the only flask in the game shaped like a jar, if you cover yourself in the liquid, you get the “Jarate” status effect, in which you are more likely to take crit damage.
Damn, haven't seen that one yet. But not too surprising that they chose to reference jarate of all things, Noita has some weird jokes hidden here and there.
@@wombat4191 Well also Noita itself is weird, It's a game within a game within a game within a game, like you can just go all the way down and get the greed ending, or you can explore and find cool new stuff like the entire game but in the clouds, or you can prestige over and over to get different endings, or you can find secret bosses and easter eggs, there's so many layers to the game it's insane, yet I never really had fun with it, mostly because it for some reason seems like the kind of game you would play with your friends, even if there is no coop/multiplayer mode.
@@wombat4191 I got to the end once or twice but I never was able to beat it without mods, although I guess I did a lot of attempts with mods because there's one that adds classes, and one I like is the Eldritch class that gives you vampirism, the daddy long legs thing and a tentacle wand on start, It's also really good with a mod that lets you use the legs to walk on walls and ceilings, only downside being you can't float anymore. Also with "got to the end" I mean I got to the final boss then died.
PAYDAY 2 also has the "TF2" pattern for mask designs, which gives your mask a Team Fortress logo pattern. The Sentry Gun is also available in the "Henry's Rock" heist.
That sentry gun WAS in Henry's Rock, I think. The other appearance would be in transport: train heist. And aside from the pattern and the engie logo on the ammo boxes, the stocks screen in the big bank has more references to tf2, as both RED and BLU appear, as well as Mann Co., I believe.
1:44 "Oh that's very convincing" is a reference to Kitty0706's Team Fabulous 2, where a Spy wearing a Mask tries to convince Desmond Miles to "Just Give Up Partner", Miles says in response "Oh that's very convincing"
A Hat in Time has couple references to TF2 like costume dyes which recolor Hat Kid's outfit with Red/Blue team's colors + the names of these skins are Fortress and Battlements. There's also the sticker of Hat Kid wearing all her hats at once like the "Towering Pillar of Hats". Another fun fact: the creator of the game was called Mecha the Slag in the past and he made many custom gamemodes like Parkour Fortress, Advanced Weaponizer, Super Zombie Fortress & more.
That's pretty cool. An amazing game and they used to make maps for tf2. I hope Funke could try to do something like that in the future. As in, well you can guess actually.
@@ashercd6487 Oooh dude someone should make a community made hat and we should vote for it. That would be such nice hat. Maybe make it different enough for the gears for breakfast wouldn't have a problem with it but even then, I think they would like it enough to say it's ok. I don't really know how references work in the legal business.
@@CursedSFMS If you don't own the game already, you aren't able to buy it directly from the Steam store anymore. You can probably get a Steam key for it somewhere, but those are limited in supply. If you already own the game and haven't previously unlocked those particular items, however, you can still get them.
@@-Marbal- Steam Family Sharing is how to obtain those nowadays - find someone who has a copy, ask them to Family Share it and either obtain achievements legit or use SAM.
8:03 There is a limited roblox hat called the "Busted Tophat" which references the Ghastly Gibus. The best part is the description. "The initials on the inside of the rim say ZM." Which also references one important character in Tf2 Lore's Zephaniah Mann, the father of Redmond and Blutarch Mann.
4:47 In Transport: Train Heist Job, we steal Engineer's sentry and sentry's bullets which they are also compactible with Heavy and Sniper. Completing that heist on OVERKILL difficulty or above gives sentry's itself as a decoration in Safehouse>Wolf's Workshop.
The first Dungeon Defenders also has a TF2 reference where you can get a few unlock a few classes to follow you around as familiars that will assist in combat (alongside a portal gun as well)
A big one is a VR game called Hot Dogs, Horseshoes, and Hand Grenades that lets you use all the TF2 base weapons in VR in a TF2 style map. Also features hot dog enemies dressed as all the classes and uses their weapons.
Another cool thing about 1:43 somewhere there idk it’s a reference to team fabulous 2. Spy meets an assassin’s creed character who says oh that’s very convincing then slaps the mask off
2:40 It's more likely referring to the Sandvich. Since there are total of 10 "Meet The Team" Videos. -Meet The Scout -Meet The Soldier -Meet The Pyro -Meet The Demoman -Meet The Engineer -Meet The Heavy -Meet The Medic -Meet The Sniper -Meet The Spy And finally, Meet The Sandvich
I am really surprised valorant put a in map Easter egg rather than a sticker or a small skib easter egg because riot games is generally really serious with their worlds
Skullgirls has a color palette for Cerebella based on the Heavy. The mobile game even takes it a step further, using the palette for a Diamond variant called "Heavy Handed", which also has the ability "Knuckle Sandvich"
For as cool as it would be to have the New Vegas minigun be a reference to TF2, I’m going to have to say that’s unlikely. It really doesn’t share much resemblance to the TF2 minigun and it more so seems to be based off Miniguns from previous Fallout games, like from 1997’s original Fallout. The meet the Spy reference is really cool though
@@willc3697 Vault 19's experiment was to split the populace of the vault into two groups: red and blue. VaultTec started shit between them and both sides were at each others throats. Just like Redmond and Blutarch Mann.
@@FrahdChikun Ah now I remember vault 19, and that does make sense. Thanks for the recap. Also, in my opinion, now that you bring it up, that sounds more like the first seasons of the Halo Red Vs Blue series rather than TF2, since(spoilers) they were simulation soldiers who had no actual reason to fight each other until the secret higher ups made issues in the area, giving them reasons to have paranoia and hatred of the other team but not enough to spiral into war. TF2 on the other hand, the two brothers immediately had rivalries since birth and didn’t need a catalyst to start a war between each other.
not only does Paladins give Barik an Engineer (TF2) skin, Evil Mojo (development studio behind Paladins) hired Grant Goodeve, Engineer's voice actor, to revoice Barik for the skin, they literally revoiced a whole character for the sake of one skin
theres another tf2 reference in henry stickmin: In completing the mission, theres a diversion option which shows many show/game dance references. Theres one that features some toppat members doing a conga line
There's a couple of TF2 references in Phantasy Star Online 2, where the Heavy's minigun appears as a weapon skin for a weapon class and Pyro's gas mask as a wearable accessory.
You actually missed a second one in Champions Online; in the Westside Docks of Millennium City you can find a stack of red & blue shipping containers where you can find NPCs made to look like the TF2 classes
Fun fact for those who haven't played the game: to get the Dispenser to dispense its prize, you have to hit the thing 8 times. Not only is it a reward for doing something "pointless" over and over, 8 is the number of times you have to hit a full-health level 1 Dispenser (or any level 1 building, for that matter) to upgrade it to level 3.
Champions Online also has an area at the Westside docks, where there is a kind of fort built from red and blue containers both sides with 2 NPCs in each. Those npcs referencing red pyro and demo, and blue soldier and spy.
Plants VS. Zombies: Garden Warfare, a game which was inspired by TF2, features a map named "Cactus Canyon". Of course, TF2 has a map with the exact same name. The map is also visually much more TF2-esque than the other maps in the game.
deep rock galactic has various references to tf2, one off the top of my head is the "cheers mate" demo voiceline reference when about to take a drink of beer
There's (technically) 2 scout figurines in HL:A one at the beginning (RED) and one in a later chapter (I believe it was the zoo level) which has the (BLU) one hidden
There's a mobile game (with a pc port) called Battle Nations that did a collab with TF2 back in 2014, which came with a unique side story and essentially you get to unlock some of the TF2 characters once you complete the missions.
There's a dungeon crawler called dungeon of the endless where you can play as medic, Pyro, engineer and heavy. It also has items like the sandwich, tower of hats and the heavy's tutu.
They’re also a reference in Call of Duty Zombie, when you play as Dempsey and you’re on the ground, he’s yelling “MEDIC!” with a intonation like Soldier
its small, but theres also Dungeon Defenders, which has Teamfortress 2 dlc for it only available on pc. Heavy, engineer, medic and pyro are little buddies that support your character.
The sniper reference in Henry Stickmin was changed a little. The og stealing the diamond, it was the actual sniper voice. But in the Henry Stickmin collection, they recorded it with their own voice
