Glad he didn't break it. ...What is the point of a semi-planing hull design -- with squarish cross-section near the middle ( a great idea ) -- if the rocker appears insufficient once you do catch those big bumps? Still, the Noio did really well, podium-wise, so congrats Team Kamanu!
I don't think you can do much with design to prevent stuffing in those conditions. The conditions were highly unusual. The middle sections of the Noio are round -- to minimize surface area. There squarish cross sections at the front 1/3 and very back that sort of 'hide' volume while keeping the waterlines narrow and effectively adding rocker. So, in effect, it's a way to lengthen the waterline AND increase maneuverability. At least, this is how I think about it vs. semi-planning. Though I imagine there is some small increase in pitch stability with speed because of it.
@@keizogates My mistake: the squarish part is near the front and rear, not the middle. The bump Triston caught was indeed rather steep -- as well as short ( not much trough ).
