Man o man . This made me cry . My family hosted The Western States Classic for 38 yrs out here in Ventura County. From the first tournament there were 6 teams . Then 8 . That yr that had 8 it was televised on a local channel . It morphed into 64 teams yrs later it its peak . From that first one my dad started a league shortly after that second tournament . No lie . 3 league nights for the guys mon weds n Fri and 2 for the girls. Tues Thurs. Guys would either play a week night n a double header on Sun but with the numbers we'd have to wait an extra week for the double headers . For the women it was fast pitch then slo pitch . 20 plus yrs my friend this went on . People are so fucken cheesy . Things got stupid later on . Permits to get the beer trucks et cetera. My ol man got hot ass broads to serve beer . There were 50 beers for yrs then I think it was bumped up to 2 bucks a beer at the end . Now everyone pisses n moans about who they're playing blah blah blah . Back then it was 3 days . Labor day weekend. Open fields way before composite bats et cetera and had to win before making it the next day . 2 and BBQ. Last few yrs it was lame . One of my Brothers took it over . Format was uppers n lowers and another dumb ass from my Hometown was all about painting n shaving bats. Watching a 130 lb dude hit a 400 bomb . Get the fuck outta. The guy still paints n shaves bats . With today's technology or technology for the last 10 yrs it's not even necessary . So ridiculous nowadays . For me this is a throwback . Good memories good beer good peeps n good times.
Much love OG James. I wish I would’ve been around during the days that you speak of. Times have certainly changed for the worse but there’s still a handful of us who do our best to represent Ventura County accordingly and proudly. This is Adam N. The pitcher. Much love always brother James.
