Just can't get enough SCAMP sailing. Lovely winter day on Tomales Bay in California USA. Out with my buddies Sarah and Dan. We had to launch from Miller Park dock near Nick's Cove instead of our usual Marconi Cove beach launch because a large tree went down blocking Highway 1. So, we turned around and went to Miller Park farther north and launched from there. It was quite luxurious launching from the dock rather than a beach. I used to launch my Montgomery 15 from there, but typically launch the SCAMP at Marconi from the beach. Didn't even get my feet wet. Gusty winds early had me set the first reef. Despite gusts to 25 or so the SCAMP handled all with aplomb. Welsford designed a boat that is just perfect for my home waters. With 3 reef points it is like carrying 4 sails at all times. So terrific. There was a king tide of 7 feet that submerged most of my usual landing beaches, but we found a small spot for lunch.
On the way back the wind became much calmer with much more sedate sailing. And, about a half mile from the dock, the wind died completely! Fortunately I broke out my terrific light 9 foot custom carbon fiber oars from Duckworks, and she rowed in nicely. Glad I can sail in an area without a motor.
All video shot with my Insta360 3X camera. Just an amazing action camera.
