Zach Hill is by far the best drummer today. Everything he does is amazing. Hella, The Ladies, Team Sleep, Goon Moon, Holy smokes, and of course his solo stuff. It's all fucking incredible man!!!
I used to have this recorded on VHS. Watched it religiously. It was because of Team Sleep I found out about Hella and Zach HIll....one of the best decisions of my life.
I actually love the drums in this song for that reason, they sound so chaotic while the rest of the song sounds so fluid and calm. Different strokes for different folks.

Watch Chino's strumming arm at 2:27 to 2:37 and other parts in the song like it... he strums with the beat of the bass drum... consistently. looks like they practiced the song that way. just because it doesn't sound like a song you'd hear every day shouldn't make you so quick to assume they played it like shit. Chino is a VERY experimental musician and I give 'em props for doin somethin new... art can be found in controlled chaous
Team sleep is actually a beautiful band, yes beautiful. Relaxing. Though in this song he can't sing the high notes very well i still love it. very unique =). Dream pop will always rock.
this isnt nearly as bad a performance as i remembered, it's pretty good really. Chino did fine on this and "ever". team sleep is great, Chino is a musical genius
Yea. Zach is one of my inspirations because he's self taught like me and everybody makes fun of my drum skills because I'm really good and I didn't take drum lessons. :( Aw well. Sucks for them. :) TEAM SLEEP AND DEFTONES!!!
i like how people shit all over Chino for his singing errors but do they not see the guitar in his hands? it is RIDICULOUSLY hard to sing as well as he does and still play this type of stuff, i honestly don't know how the dude does it, the errors are expected in my opinion. i hear on Eros Chino ditches the guitar and focuses on vocals.
Come on man I am a Deftones fan and chino's parts are so easy, the thing is that He definitely can't sing well if you want to use a real example about playing guitar and singing what about Mustaine from Megadeth or Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom.
and to the haters, his singing isnt perfect cause he did major damage to his vocal chords in late 2000, and could have lost his voice completely it was so series, and he didnt rest it enough after that. he went down an octave i'd say, but before that happened he hit notes fine. now certain one give him trouble sometimes. give him a break he's killed his voice for the sake of good rock music (rare these days)
Damn Chino...I love ya man and I'm a hardcore fan, but I'm not so biased to be able to see that this is not very good. Speaking about Chino's vocals, not the rest of the band.
@tbwannab I think that's a choice he made. It's deliberately different, which is funny to me because it's doesn't really please the technical drumming crowd enough or the minimalistic folks. It's like he's giving a sort of big "fuck you" to those who over analyze the music. It is what it is and he's at least enjoying it.
chinos voice during his fat phase was awful...like when deftones did "hole in the earth" on Conan in 2006 this song live is amazing...the drums are so sick they are so all over the place and still on
true, but he also makes errors without the guitar plus his guitar parts are not that hard and i see guitarist play way harder things and still sing, opeth for example. but the thing is, his vocal lines are just absurdly hard and he can't always reproduce them 100 percent. but i dont care, i'd rather have his vocal style with some errors than faultless but boring
