He says "breakpoint around 7 or 8 becoming your gutter" which means that if you throw anywhere right of those two boards down lane, the ball will have no chance of hooking back. The ideal line, then, is aiming at boards 10 or 11 and throwing it out to the 7th or 8th board. Being direct at the head pin (essentially throwing a ball right at the head pin) allows for better adjustments. (The USBC Queens last year bowled on this pattern.)
Also, I won a Junior Gold Qualifier tournament on this pattern, using a Lucid. the Lucid gave me a good read on the Fresh, being one of the few lefties bowling I didn't really change my line all that much. but when it breaks down you want to go Medium to weak symmetric balls. To simplify: -Start with Asymmetric Ball (Preferably pin up). Recovers > Symmetric -Use Symmetric on the breakdown. Predictable reaction is needed
It all depends on your preference. For a medium-length pattern I would stick with a benchmark ball; it is possible to use both on these patterns, but for Montreal I would recommend an asymmetric ball, pin up so it goes longer before making a move. Diandra Asbaty won the Queens on it using a pin-up Critical Theory and getting it to the 10th board at the breakpoint.
