Your husband would be so proud of your fight for him and your son. Thank you.

As a nurse for 25+ years has never seen such gross negligence. I am truly sorry for your loss and I will endeavor to continue to change the culture of Complacency and healthcare providers looking at classic textbook signs and symptoms often times making incorrect diagnosis and not listening to the patients From experiences and my knowledge as FNP student the best diagnosis is garnered from what the patient is telling you along with a good H & P. I stand with you. Quite a few of my friends have been misdiagnosed and after talking to them and listening to their stories I accurately diagnosed their problems in just one conversation that is one of my many reasons why I chose to become a nurse practitioner. I stand with you Sincerely, LTC Daure'

Sue, thank you for sharing your story for others to learn from. I cannot imagine what you have gone through with these experiences. I am a healthcare educator and a nurse for 22 years in which the majority of my time was practicing in Labor and Delivery. I now work with new graduates and new hires as they enter into our facility. Communication is so important and I make sure the team understands the importance of taking ownership in the team dynamic and the impact of communication in our every day practice makes.

So courageous and inspiring to actually do something to create change. While nothing can make up for Sue Sheridan's devastating losses, this is a testament to her courage, strength, and caliber of an incredible person. May God bless and keep you. My deepest sympathy.

What makes NGT 01 think that the Sheridan's received massive settlements and that she is paid to promote the organizations? This is a tragic and ill informed characterization of patients who experience medical errors. Shame on you. I work full time now to take care of my family. Do your homework before you post comments of this nature. Sue Sheridan

These two stories are hard to listen to, and I can't even imagine what she went through. God be with her.

Sue, Thank you for sharing your heartbreaking story. As a nurse of 26 years in reinforces my belief that you must keep the family involved. If the answers given to you do not seem appropriate, seek a second opinion. With the availability of the internet, I encourage patients and family to do their own homework. Not to second guess a physician but to be able to be informed. By doing so, you may have to know what to expect and insisted the hospital or physician do a bilirubin test. I've had the experience of my infant son having a red throat. The doctor looked at it and said it seemed okay. I insisted on a throat culture. It was positive for strep throat. I ask my patients and family if they have questions or do they understand what is going on. Thank you for sharing. I will continue to be an advocate for patients and family in my care.

Susan Sheridan, I am watching this video as a first semester nurse of my BSN program at IUPUI in Indiana. Thank you for sharing your tragic story, because upcoming nursing students, current nurses, healthcare faculty, and families alike all need to hear this and remember it. I am shocked and devastated for you and I intend to personally carry out the specific and focused care that cost you your husband's life and your son's health. Throughout my nursing career I will always remember this series of events and make it my first priority to deliver patient-focused care. I hope you have found some peace and I wish you and your family all the best. -Breana Bailey

Sue Sheridan: What prevented Sue from changing Pediatricians when confronted with a jaundice baby? Sue had responsibility here. First to challenge medical professionals. It is not uncommon for doctors to allow receptionists and aides to voice comments like "wait 24 hours", for the doctor. Trust has no part of medical treatment. Transparency, communication and explanations are the only things that can guarantee patient safety.

So...she received massive settlements (deserved), but in return, is tasked (paid) to promote these organizations. Or, maybe she just wants others to avoid what she went through (probably a bit of both).
