You're wrong! 31 years a Teamster, and I have never seen as many Teamsters voting Red and in love with Trump on the barn floor. I'm not saying that's right, but the Democrats have abandoned working America in lew of support for non working America. The need to find true support for working class America is real.
My late mom, a 45 year Union member at Raytheon would roll over in her grave at the Teamsters at the Republican Convention. I remember the strike times, no food at home. No food stamps back then. Dad was injured at WORK and disabled . Dems have always had their backs as far as I remember as a kid.
@@blueberry-ri7eb my dad was a union man too at the government printing office. So glad he doesn’t have to see this mess but I sure wish I could talk to him about it. He, my mom and I had such great discussions. Mom now has dementia. I miss those talks ….

My Dad was a union plumber on large construction jobs building skyscrapers, hospitals and professional buildings. The union provided for my family well and the benefits were fantastic for my mother after my dad had passed. Unions are the protector of working people. That’s why corporations do their best to block them!
I thought he was telling the Republicans to STAND UP. I didn't hear entire speech but I thought it was anti RNC and pro union. Did you see the look on attendees faces. Pro union was what it was all about.
As a retired Teamster, I thought O'Brian did a good job. I didnt hear an endorsement for Trump instead I heard pro American worker, pro Union, pro America speech. IMO any union worker, voting for the gop, is ludicrous.
@JanetCarlson-zm5ng Anyone voting for Kamala doesn't know crap about economics. Trump did nothing for unions, but he didn't cripple them, either. Cost of living under Trump was much lower than now and that is due to much lower energy costs due to having more oil and drilling our own oil. Raise the price of oil, then gas and you raise the cost of living. Think this stuff you eat and use just pops up magically at store, etc? No, it's truck drivers. Cost of gas/diesel goes up. The cost of everything then goes up. Do the simple 2nd grade math. That's ok, neither of you in this comment section were ever union anyways.
Yeah, you're definitely lying about being in the union at any time in your life. No one who really worked and had a decent iQ would ever vote for Kamala/Walz, lol.
@@JohnC3POlerud To be honest, his speech shows why we need an overhaul to the entire political system as both parties are guilty of putting big corporate interest ahead of their constituents. Lobbyists hit up both parties hard and while they are philosophically different in some key aspects, we are kidding ourselves if we think that they both aren’t beholden to big money and corporate interests.
@hatleyhoward7193 I agree that we need to get money out of politics. Unfortunately, we are at a pivotal time. By voting Red, we will be giving up and waiting for project 2025 to come to fruition. By voting Blue we can bye some time, to come together and organize to implement change. But change happens from the bottom up. We need to vote in EVERY election. We need to educate ppl. So they stop voting against their own interests.

The teamsters have every right to be angry at O’Brien. Has he not been briefed on the Project 2025 plans for labor??? What is wrong with him? The fact that he even went to the RNC is a stab in the back at working people in this nation.
Vote for the Harris ticket and vote blue up and down the the ballot. Biden is the only president to go all in for unions and Kamala will do the same!!!
1. Biden [& Barack] put more men of color in prison, than any other administration. 2. There are still people in prison, that Kamala prosecuted, for posession of Marijuana. 3. Trump had lowest unemployment for black men, ever.
They are trying to tax us more with more regulations and we are losing jobs to immigrants. Yellow closed, Trump helped trying to keep the Company alive. Trump seems a better option for me not Harris. Idc if I’m union or not I am teamsters and did owner operator and let me tell you. Immigrants ARE taking the work for cheap. If this doesn’t stop, work will be taken cheap by the immigrants and even union jobs will slow and what will be left? Look at the middle eastern taking all the work, how or why? Most likely they are taking it for super cheap rates and the trucking industry especially unions labor will disappear. Harris does not seems to be the best option at the moment. You try to open up a business for your kids in the future and with Harris that won’t happen. Look at that reality not just because you were a teamster. Look at the future, what will you offer your kids? If you have plans to open a business with them, it is hard, talking with real 💯 percent experience.
Mainly, because people who could talk to them are scolded for having even been there. Look it up. Blue collar non union workers go 70-30 for the GOP. But the moment someone goes to talk to them, they get videos like this.

I was in the teamsters from 1991-1998. I thought they had learned their lesson when they supported Ronald Reagan. I'm in sheer disbelief that a union president would appear at the Republican convention. This needs to be denounced everywhere.
Stay Teamster Strong. My grandfather. Jack Smith was one of the founders of Teamsters Union in Chicago and g fought the powerful railroad for union rights. At that he had four 24 ht bodyguards . U am very proud of this. My Dad Bob Smith is a Tramster Leader inMPLS. . Be Teamster Strong❤❤❤
Showing up at the RNC is the most anti-union thing O'Brien could ever do. It made me decide to turn my back on the Teamsters (even though I have been union since the mid 70s. ALL anti-union legislation has always come from conservatives.
It got SO quiet, I could hear audible gasps from the 'corporate' elites during Sean's speech. Audience jaws literally dropped. The "perception was the reality" by the time that speech was over. Trump just looked confused by the time Sean finished (especially since he had served him a nice dinner at Mar-a-lago. In Sean's defence, "Papa's gotta eat!") Sean left those Republican Fat Cats in his dust. He did NOT endorse either Donald (apart from calling him a tough SOB re: Butler, PA) or the GOP but rather that speech put them On Notice. I took it as the BEST non-partisan speech I've heard in recent memory & it was so IRONIC in who it was being aimed at. *It was obvious that Sean was 'courted' to speak to the working man/woman in Trump's base & these folks now need to be educated at the teamster (& other unions) level and by the Democrats as to how Trump & Co. is NOT going to support or strengthen unions. DO NOT FAIL TO EDUCATE!!! as to the Real World Consequences of a Trump Dictatorship. *HOPEFULLY, Sean will reprise this performance at the Democratic National Convention & get in on that Blue Tsunami! Everyone does better when Unions are strong & respected! Unions represent the working classes from the bottom & middle out (as Biden wants/ed to be working toward)
Considering that my boss, a 70 year old, lifetime GOP voter came out of it saying "maybe unions are actually doing good too", and would never have watched it at the DNC, and that the MAJORITY of non union, blue collar workers now vote GOP, it is frustrating that they are more bothered by "how dare he eat with sinners" and less with "it is not the healthy who need a doctor". Teamsters do not need that speech. Liberals, by and large, do not need that speech. So he went where people did... and this is what he gets for it.
My father was a union man at the government printing office. He passed away 15 years ago. So glad he did not have to see a president of teamsters speak at the RNC. pretty sure he rolled over in his grave.

Why in the world wasO'Brien there? As a retired teamster I was so disappointed and embarrassed that he chose to speak at the RNC convention. The Maga people are union busters! Our president Biden stood with striking union members. WTF?
“There’s no reason to sit down” is NOT the answer. If you don’t have a seat/voice at the table then you don’t exist. May as well make them listen. It was a great speech. Well done!
What did he think he would achieve by going there ? The GOP and their SC cronies would ban Unions if they had an opportunity. They have been a barrier to workers at every turn and have never once shown any support for workers and labour rights.
Thank you John my daddy was a Teamster I grew up to be a Teamster and my brother was a Teamster you said it right so it's We the People and it's we the people that we have to keep Mr Orange out of the White House I would love to see you speak at the Democratic convention😊
My husband and I drove for Werner Enterprises for 23 years. We were hazmat endorsed and had a secret clearance hauling government and other security loads. Every one of the security loads required unmarked armed cars to travel in our vacinity. We both retired as two million mile accident free drivers each. I got to live my childhood dream in far greater ways than I ever imagined. The reason why I'm telling you all of this is because - we received notice over the truck computer they were giving a raise!!!! Then later on we found out it was for everyone under the million mile accident free driver list. The one, two, three, four and the one five million miler weren't included in the raise. The point of the story is that we had NOBODY TO GO TO. We didn't drive for a Union Trucking Company. We asked for a load that was closest to our home, rented a car on the way in, quit and retired. I wish I could post a picture so I could show off all my awards.
How soul crushing that must have been. All of those years, all of those miles, your integrity & character to have those clearances. And a perfect safety record? Only to get shafted out of a raise? Are they still in business or are they one of the ones that have been swallowed up by billionaires?

No need to go that far back. Hey, remind me, who was it who forced Rail workers to return to work and broke their strike? You know, after one of the worst rail disasters in American history (Palestine, Ohio)? EFF the Democratic Party. Negotiations 101: you need two to create leverage.
@@gustaafargoan highly doubtful as the entire US & global economy ground to a screeching halt & no one was unloading a damn thing into our ports. But sure, you were doing great.
Could he have been a Trojan horse? The Republicans cheered everything he said.....unfortunately at an RNC convention. Wouldn't the crowd realize he represents (Democratic Party) yet can agree with the needs of the working folks and what sounds right. Don't they know that he can't stand Trump? I go back and forth on O'Brien's intent. As a retired Teamster, he wasn't applauding Trump's policies but it did turn my stomach to see Teamster's in hard hats with Trump T-shirts on.
I'm a Teamster shop steward. Sure Sean O'Brien started his speech off a little complimentary of Trump and gave a little credit to bipartisanship, but it quickly gave whiplash to the RNC. I feel that his speech was pointed to all of the people out in TV land watching that joke of a convention, not to the corporations sitting there in the audience. I think O'Brien's message was to the masses really telling them not to trust the Republicans because they don't care about you, they only care about the rich corporate elites. O'Brien was offered a slot to speak and he took it and in doing so he opened a big ole can of whoop-ass and bitch slapped the RNC 6 ways to Sunday. I'm glad that he told the people what they needed to hear which was the fact that the Republicans do not support the working class.
@@04crossfire He should also be invited to the Democratic convention and give the same speech. He took advantage of a moment and I honestly don’t care who he supports, as both parties are the problem.
there has been a major political realignment that occurred in the last 5 years and at this historical moment-the Republican Party is FAR more amendable to the needs of the working class than the Democratic Party.
I watched his speech, and thought it was a tricky threading of a needle. Outside of a slathering of praise for Trump that may have been just to put a foot in the door, O’Brien did not endorse Trump. He was allowed to say things no one else on that stage could or would say. The cognitive dissonance in the room was palpable! He should also speak at the DNC convention as well.
I’m not fortunate enough to have a union job, but I grew up in a union household. My father built track all of his life. He was a proud BMWE member and later a Teamster, of course. He was also a very proud Democrat in a very red state. I am also a lifelong Democrat. I have been wondering what my dad would have thought about O’Brien speaking at the RNC-before he died he told me I could be anything I ever want to be, except a Republican. Obviously, I can’t speak for him, but overall, O’Brien will show us in the next few months if he did the right thing. I do understand the criticisms of this choice, and I do have concerns about the optics. The Republican Party has never been for the working man, and ostensibly will never be. The frustrating thing about having so many Red-voting union members is that I think they are distracted with many social issues that won’t actually ever impact them and overlook what strong union support in the Democratic Party actually can give them-security for themselves and their families in the way of good wages, safe working conditions, good benefits, good insurance, good retirement, etc. My mother is able to have a comfortable retirement after my dad died specifically because of these things. Voting red on social issues would have left her much worse off. Gay marriage is never going to affect you, but having quality health insurance for your sick kid will indeed. What I hope Sean’s intentions, and the eventual effect of his speech at the RNC is to do a couple things. First, there are a lot of working men and women wearing red hats out there that deserve the life that unions can help them achieve. It doesn’t matter how much I disagree with them on other issues. Everyone should make a good living for them and theirs. I hope Sean at least put some ideas in RNC heads as to what unions can offer. Second, the Democrats are the party of the workers and are the only ones who are actually going to fight for us. But they aren’t doing enough. They need some fear and insecurity about the union/worker voting bloc. They shouldn’t take us for granted. Josh Hawley, for example, is never going to actually be an advocate for unions in any meaningful way, but if he his a couple small things to put in his ads, the Democratic challenger will have to step up his or her game to hopefully bring in working folks of all stripes into the fight for change that will actually improve their lives. As I said, I’m not a Teamster; it is up to you to decide if O’Brien is looking out for you, and you should hold your leader to account for ensuring he or she is busting their ass to look out for you. You don’t owe him or any other leader allegiance. The same with politicians and parties. In my estimation, as of now the Democrats are the ones who have and will look out for all of us, but they need to know that we don’t belong to their party-we are the party. As Sean said in his speech, we are not renters.
I'd have more hope if he'd spoken less about the 3 republicans who paid empty lip-service to unions and more about the entirety of the party who vote no, across the board, on every single pro-worker piece of legislature. He didn't and with that omission he furthered the lie that allows Republicans to pretend they are pro-worker. Even worse, he called out the "elites", the exact same terms the Republicans use when dishonestly framing Democrats as the "elites in Washington ignoring the working man". I really hope he just doesn't realize. But growing up in the midwest, in a family full of Republican working class people who constantly vote against their own interests, my heart sank. This is why they do it. And people like him are why they will continue to do it in the future.
Me too! He didn't kiss the ring. Gave a few compliments and spoke about being pro-union and pro-worker. So, all those conservative lawmakers cheering need to apply this energy into policy. Maybe Dems don't take union votes for granted as much.
@@Mr.Boring_Man Dems do not take unions for granted dems are the only ones who ever supported unions. Do your homework and check your history. I live in California. The home is Saint Reagan. When the auto workers were on the picket line Joe Biden joined them. Meanwhile, Donald Trump went to speak at a scab event. They worship Donald Trump. They follow his lead. There’ll be no support whatsoever ever coming from a Republican.
I was threatened at my old job just for SAYING the word "Union" in a joking manner. Literally was told to watch my mouth, or ill be lookin for a new job.
Sean O'brien did a dis-service to the members of the Teamsters with his appearance and speech. As an active former Teamster member I was discussed and appalled. He was promoting himself for future endeavors period. He might as well have pissed in a fan.
He might have been trolling for a job in a future administration, but the damage to the movement cannot be understated. As a retired Steelworker and the son of a Teamster, this is a slap in the face to hard working union members past and present. Organizing is hard enough without a stunt like this. There are times and places for discussions with those who are not sympathetic to the cause, and this was about the worst venue imaginable.
Hearing Josh Hawley's name came out of his mouth was nauseating...but did he actually vote Pro on a labor bill? Still doesn't make Hawley NOT a Dick because he is, but then O'Brien still wasn't lying.

As a long time union member myself albeit in a different country and with a big interest in America politics I agree with your guest wholeheartedly.I also wasn't impressed with O'Briens attendance and thought his speech left a lot to be desired, and can imagine how union member's would be upset by it.There is no doubt in my mind that unions and their members should avoid Trump and the republican party like the plague they have always been anti union
My dad world war 2 veteran and a teamster laborer at Roth Adams coal company and rock road construction company in Chicago. My dad truck driver and laborer. I did not think he should have spoken at the rnc.It is not the republican party it is the maga party.
There are saying that the Teamster's setup O'brien because they hope to replace him. I don't know if there's any validity to it at all, given what he was able to accomplish up until the RNC. I am aware that Teamster Leadership can be corrupt as hell, as well. Project 2025 is a nightmare, not just for labor.
I’m a Teamster in Colorado and most of my brothers and sisters I’ve spoken to were happy that Sean addressed the RNC. This is a huge milestone. And for him to slam corporations and be as blunt as he was; that was a win in my opinion. Yeah those people are corporate people in that room, perfect time while everyone’s gathered to expose the truth and to hopefully encourage the Republican side to cooperate and vice versa. My whole family is/was union, I know plenty along with co-workers that voted Trump in 2016 & 2020 and I know even more Teamsters voting Trump this year. To each their own. But there are a lot of MAGA people within the Union. Also at the end of the day, regardless of which person is elected Biden or Trump (worked under both along with 2 different union contracts) I’m still working 12-14hrs a day with the expectation of returning to work after 10hrs of mandated “off” time. The company DOES hide behind language manipulation (taking contractual language and twisting it to benefit themselves), forced to help people finish their work before I go home because this company believes service comes before family. It always has and always will. But yet fairness on both sides? Remember when he said we aren’t tenants or renters? Well I can’t buy time from a vending machine, but yet this corporate company can treat me like a mechanical robot created in a factory, and that’s a crime. Work/life balance is worse now than before. It doesn’t matter who is president, I’m fortunate and blessed I don’t have children, because I’d be paying someone else to raise them (present day). I want to say I am grateful and blessed for what I have worked for. I do have great benefits and a solid retirement. But I do feel like sometimes I damn near sold my soul to the devil.
Sounds like you're in the same industry I'm in. Never understood how union members vote against there own best interests. Working conditions will only get worse thanks to these sellouts with no comprehension
Donakd Trump ALREADY SAID he is supporting "Right to Work." It's on RU-vid. So it doesn't make any sense to vote for the anti-union person when Biden is pro-union.
Both parties are trash. But RFK is on the ballot and is a strong supporter of unions and the worker. He also is currently on enough ballots to get over 300 electoral college votes. And will be on more states by November.
Utterly insane. The republican party want schedule F. They want project 2025 to end democracy and the republican supreme court just destroyed the Chevron deference and anointed themselves kingmakers. Do an internet search for "Donald Trump’s Catastrophic and Devastating Anti-Labor Track Record" and read.
OMG, o'brien's speach was great. As a 50 year teamster, marching and organizing, this impressed me. About time a union leader had the courage to enter the enemy camp with a labor message. Thank you Sean.
But that’s not how the Republicans are spinning it. The optics were that republicans are pro-union. Which they are not. Check out Project 2025 and the plans they have for us working people.
@@shortnowno it wasn't, he was used , his stabs at the elite and Corporations pissed them off big deal, with his praise of Hawley and Vance did more HARM than good. He just gave credit for teamsters to vote against their own interest. Unions should be calling that out not promoting the people who if given a chance to eliminate unions they will. Please explain how his speech was a good thing.
Actually I don’t know how no one noticed, he is not endorsing Trump, why would he? No one there expected this, he lifted his voice in protest. That was very cool.
Biden is the one who forced the railroad unions into the raw deal. I know the Teamster president isn't endorsing Trump. But he wanted to get the message of strong unions out there. And the Republicans were the ones who invited him to speak. Not the democrats. Biden needs to go. They should never have run him. At least now people are waking up to the idea of third party because as Charlemagne the god said "both candidates are trash". RFK is the strong pro union candidate that this country needs.

Sean’s actual speech was better than any speech ever given at EITHER convention. He got almost no cheering, the repubes were forced to show who they really are. The VP cares more about his own funding more than what’s best for union members. The teamsters president should be speaking to all of America not just the democrat side. It was a warning shot to the dems and it was a good one.
I am a Dem but I thought the Teamster Sean O’Brien speech was what I would expect from Union man proud of his Union. I thought it was the only truthful speech all night. The man did nothing wrong but represent his Union. It was about the Union not MAGA. Nothing offensive. Good Jon.
This was a genius move to get class struggle conversation to the ears of Republican voters, instead of just the same identity politics nonsense. O'Brien did very well.
Hilarious that the Republican voters believe their party stands for everything he said in his speech 😂😂 The fact that many didnt want him to speak- should tell you everything you need to know about the gop.
I completely agree with those who rate O'Brien's speech as stellar, putting the screws to Republican crap that's a rigid part of the culture after MANY DECADES- what's important is not that the audience present ignores the content of the speech, but perhaps enough outside that bubble will hear the powerful message to recognize truth. Of course, the optics of his appearance overwhelms all the value of what he said.
And Trump's Presidential Transition Project 2025 is shutting down OSHA, EPA, social security and Medicare. What do you think will happen to unions and pensions under a pro-corporation far right government?
I felt Sean ripped both parties a new one. He slammed corporations. I just listened to it again. He said the left called him a traitor for speaking there. But his speech was about defending workers against corporations and Washington being part of the issue. He was clear Teamsters weren't bowing to either party. That's good. I hope the Democratic party is smart enough to invite him to speak at their convention. The optics of them not having him will validate his point. Perhaps I'm a bit cynical. But, would a Vice President of the Teamsters have an incentive for the President to be ousted?
I dont hate Sean. He is wonderful to address the convention. I worked as a state of NY worker with CSEA. IM NOW RETIRED. BUT WORRY ABOUT STATE WORKERS WHO ARE SCAPEGOATS FOR THE SYSTEM.
Why would anyone oppose working people calling their leader out and expressing their rightful frustration at him speaking for them in a way they do not appreciate? how anti-democratic and anti-freedom. you don't get to have it both ways, friend.
Because Trump and the Republicans are anti-union! That he showed up made it look as if he supported Trump and the Republicans after the decades of Republican politicians tearing down union rights!
Just as long as a Republican is never president, again, we'll grow unions as we had in the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, then Reagan imposed NeoLiberalism, Anti-Worker's Rights, Anti-Union, Anti-Regulation, Anti-Democratic, Anti-American. Preventing Predatory Capitalism, for Capitalism must have the guardrails of Regulations that protect the people from corporate abuse and Environmental Degradation. Thanks to Bernie Sanders efforts for highlighting the importance of unions ❤😊
Mr. O'Brien said what I was thinking. I was thinking about logistics at work. Because it's coming up short. But we're outsiders can’t solve. Because that is need to improve wages and working environment. In this point, he tackles a problem from the inside. When I searched these problems, I thought "truck stations" for improved working environment as an outsider. And a light burden on the human body is needed for women's participation. But it is not only for women, but also for men, of course.
