Oleta put this band on another level ... and kudos to Curt and Roland for plucking her out of that jazz club. So glad she was able to get on a stage like this.
For 11 minutes they rule the world. Jazz, Pop & Rock all at the same time. And, kudos to Oleta. Most of the times - the most famous song by a band isn't their best song.
This is a song Roland wrote about a true event wherein he overheard his band members vilify him in a hotel room # 628 via bedroom wall during the “Big Chair” tour so apparently he is the “BADMAN.” How he came up with the lyrics, melody, and rhythm are nothing short of brilliance.
I play this song for my "uninitiated" friends and ask them who they think it is. Some may say "that guy's voice seems familiar", but all are blown away when I tell them it's Tears for Fears. Not exactly what people would expect after Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule the World.
At their absolute pinnacle here. Indescribable brilliance in musicianship from every aspect and definitely not lacking in visual appeal. The death of their drummer was devastating.
As brilliant as this track was on the album, it goes truly supersonic here. Just staggering - not a weak link anywhere. Vocally and instrumentally top notch. What a band!
@@lb4367 same thing, i was wondering what was happening whilst listening the studio version, it was such a weird noise at first but also a pleasing one. I was amazed once i checked out this live version and he sang it like on the studio version. My skin crawls each time i hear this part of the song
Roland my Crush forever!!! His amazing voice, smile, hair, moves, how play (make LOVE) the guitar, charism, Genius... Etc, etc 😍😍😍 touch my heart and soul!!
This is such an extraordinary performance. Oleta elevates this song incredibly, both with her voice, and her skills on the piano. And I love the way her voice meshes with Roland, especially on the 2nd time through the chorus.
Is this the smoothest and most rhythmic song ever made or is it just me? We all know how good Oleta is but I didn’t know Roland’s voice was so good until I saw this video.
Oh 1990, you were so good to me. We were all so young then. Full of hope and promise. Nothing hurt. Except our feelings. And Oleta was touring with TFF!!! Such a gem. Cut to today--we are all wiser and our focus is not on our own selfish selves, but on the people that are important to us...raising good, ethical humans. It's not about just US anymore. The music of our past still lures us back though. We need to connect to a time when the stakes were'nt so high. Roland, OMG, that voice. That smile. Even though you were tortured--THAT SMILE. And Kurt, your velvet pipes rolled over our brains and soothed us.
This honestly makes me wonder why I had to be born into the 21st century. But oh well I should be going to see Tears in May (2018) I absolutely adore this song, expecially live, they put on such great performances.
I saw 'em on that tour as well, at Blenheim Palace. A lot of water under the bridge in the intervening years and the previous time I saw them on the Happy Ending tour a decade earlier was the only gig I've ever come close to walking out of halfway through, as it felt like a real contract filler and just going through the motions, which was a profound disappointment. the Orzabal of 2018 and now is a very different man and on that Greatest Hits tour seemed somewhat elsewhere at times or at least in the moment enough to be truly present in the performance... and has looked after his voice very very very well.
@@ellaineparis Has nothing to do with agreeing with you. It's not like I could disagree with you anyway, I don't know anything about you. I was just saying it's sad that this video (as good as it is) is the highlight of your life imo
@@Jimmyjamsays.... sure, this could be highlight of my life but i just remember i made this comment a year ago by your comment. i was just saying that i did not regret watching this 11-minute video, not in a literal meaning and i may say that again on other things. i hope that's clear
A friend of mine in the late Eighties Interviewed these Guys About there upcoming Album Sewing the seeds of love and all they could talk About was Oleta Adams and getting back to instrumental music instead of the Synth pop they were doing(still great music)... Great album... Awesome song live...
Such an awesome song! I could listen again and again and… And Roland’s vocal range is unbelievable! And the super-talented Oleta Adams slams it out of the park! This band is so tight, truly professional. Live is where you’ll hear the truth. And where you’ll hear the mistakes, but there are none. The playing is perfection. I hope now that they’re touring again they make it this way! 🎸
My mate and producer Neil Taylor the very young lead guitarist on this . Our new single I Really Care is released 23Nov 2023. Hear it for his amazing solo.
All in our life arrives at the end! For me it was a pity to see Tears For Fears disappear from the stage after having reached the perfection. The added value of Oleta Adams was the best artistic moment of the group. Even today there is who thinks that their music was "commercial". Their music was, at least, PROFESSIONAL...
WOW!! I have listened to and watched this over and over. WHAT AN AMAZING SONG w/Oleta or not. I love Roland, but Curt deserves proper respect for his bass skills as well. Damn, what a performance!
I'm in trouble every step of the way" 😁😅😂)
Anyone notice Roland sounds a lot like Hank Williams Jr at the very beginning of the song? I love Badman's Song live so freaking much. They got their jam on! One of the most vastly underrated bands ever. Their range and diversity is unmatched. The young'uns should take notice what REAL talent sounds like! Excellent job, guys!!
This has to be one of the greatest songs from the 'Live At (The) Knebworth Festival' disc. I’ve not had a chance to see them live, but I’d buy a ticket just to see them play this tune. Thanks very much for sharing this post!
Recorded it on cassette the day of off the radio. LOVE seeing it live with better audio. WISH i could find the entire TFF set Wish i could've seen this tour.... EVERY song kicks A**
This is an awesome masterpiece of music and a great live performance as well. And I really love the voice of Oleta Adams, the song would not be the same without here appearance. Thanks a lot for sharing!
This will always be my favorite TFF song, but there is some pretty brilliant music on their Tipping Point album too. If you haven’t heard it, listen to My Demons. Super cool song with a Depeche Mode vibe
Não sei quantas vezes já escutei essa música essa semana, mas já é amais ouvida no meu spotify. Eles estavam muito inspirados nesse show. Simplesmente espetacular. O baixo e as vozes, tudo impecável!
"Pop" music used to be classy and musical....with real instruments and good musicians... well THIS isn´t really Pop Music...but it was popular...;) well you all know what I mean :) awesome song and amazing album!
Love, love, love this performance. Have the video & even got my husband (who's a musician & hates 80's music with a passion) into it. Oleta has the most incredible voice & it's a pity she couldn't make it on her own. Then again, this song wouldn't have been as wonderful without her contribution.
Heard every word that was said that night When the light of the world put the world to right Well here's to the boys back in 628 Where an ear to the wall was a twist of fate I will shine a blinding light Through those hearts as black as night Sticks and stones may break my bones But as least the seeds of love will be sown Now once in awhile when I feel no shame I get down on my knees and I pray for rain And though the breeze blows gently while I state my case There'll be certain men waiting just to scratch my face Hand on my heart I will make a stand For the life and the times of the mirror man In my head there is a mirror When I've been bad, I've been wrong Food for the saints that are quick to judge me Hope for a Badman This is the Badman's Song Guilt in…
