Kinda miss it Zach? I most definitely MISS IT!! Send me back for 30 minutes! Just long enough to buy that awesome Healey before the prices skyrocketed!! And to grab hold of one of those great ladies of the 80's that seemed to be missing nowadays!! Peace out...
At the end of the song, when you said, "Noooooo. Why is it ending? Go back!" -- This is EXACTLY what I always thought whenever this was on the radio when I was growing up.
_in violent times, you shouldn't have to sell your soul_ _in black and white, they really really ought to know_ _those one track minds, that took you for a working boy_ _kiss them goodbye! you shouldn't have to jump for joy_
+1 And I would add "Seeds of Love", they got that classic Beatles references in that song, and with that, wrote a "britpop-blueprint" before there was britpop (as a genre).
I don't know if anyone mentioned this before but, this song was used at the end of the movie 'Real Genius' just before the credits roll. A fun little movie to watch with a big bowl of "popcorn" 🍿. IYKYK.
_...all for freedom, and for pleasure; nothing ever last forever..._ They had many great lines in that song! I hope you're feeling better soon. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
Everybody Wants To Rule The World was released in 1985. None of the band members are related. They are a great band who captured the mood of the time perfectly. You must check out the rest of their music.
This song was sung by bass player Curt Smith, and his musical partner is the guitar player, Roland Orzabal, with the two the bandleaders. Roland sings lead about half the time, and they generally always provide backup vocals for each other. Both of them endured very difficult childhoods, resulting in them both being very introverted, and they'd been undergoing Primal Scream Therapy to help break them out of their introverted shells - which is what inspired their song Shout. The band's name, Tears For Fears, was also inspired by their collective therapy and emotional struggles. Everybody Wants To Rule The World would easily make the list of the Top 20 most important songs of the 1980s, and this monster hit enjoyed 4 or 5 years of hourly rotation on the radio, along with the other smash hit from this album, Shout. EWTRTW has appeared in MANY movies and even more TV shows. Here's a (very likely incomplete) list of movies known to feature the song: Real Genius (1985) The Secret Of My Success (1987) Peter's Friends (1992) American Psycho (2000) Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) (cover by Lorde) Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) Deadpool (2016) Wonder Woman (2017) The Lego Batman Movie (2017) Ready Player One (2018) Alita: Battle Angel (2019) Trolls World Tour (2020) Tesla (2020)
In a similar vein Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker has a song called "Running The World" it's still relevant 17 years on and it's guaranteed to get you singing along to the chorus, there's a fantastic live version on RU-vid from French TV
They have so many amazing songs, Shout, Mad world, Woman in Chains...you should dive in. Oh and this is one of the few songs where this guy is the singer. Most of them are by the other guitarist who has another really rich voice and they harmonize really well together. Love your reactions Bisscute and hello from Cherry Gardens South Australia!
Some songs like this take me back to a specific time and place when I was in my early '20s. Summertime, playing baseball, trying to impress a girl I had a hard crush for, getting teased by my friends about it. Like having a photograph burned into my memory, this song probably brings many others to a time and place that made them feel good. Even if hearing it for the first time, I hope music brings you to a particular time and place in your memory that is awesome. Love seeing others hear it for the first time too!!!!
Bisscute it is nice seeing how you appreciate good music. Such a pretty young woman enjoying music that was before her time and enjoying it. I love watching your reactions. Keep up the great video. Thanks from Washington state USA
Though this is not my usual 'cup of tea' so to speak, I think this subjectively is one of the best songs ever made. If aliens ever visit us and ask 'What is music?' I think is the song we should show them, to show them what music is. Although this might not be everyone's favorite, I think it's impossible to dislike this song. The title of the song is very cool, and the lyrics touches on something that's very human that we all feel and experience one way or another, plus the melody is a perfect balance between uplifting and melancholy. Undeniable classic this one.
Did anyone ever notice the dinosaur statue during the lyrics' nothing ever lasts forever'? So profound, I missed it the first time seeing the video years ago but caught it the second or third time watching. Such a terrific song!
I was one year out of high school when this was released. Sure miss those days, life was so easy then compared to now. This song and most of your musical reactions take me back to those days.
Nice! Good one! Can't remember if you've done them before. Good, very 80s band! For me, they were one of those bands that were popular when I was a kid, so they were there, in the atmosphere, but I didn't necessarily pay that much attention, but later when I was older, I was able to come to really appreciate how good they really were. This song in particular was used in at least a few movies in the 80s. They have a lot of good songs, like "Shout", "Sewing The Seeds Of Love", and "Mad World" are some of my favorites. Actually there was a great cover of "Mad World" in the early 2000s, by Gary Jules, I think, and Curt Smith of Tears For Fears, did a cute video of him performing it with his teenage daughter not too long ago.
This takes me back to my teen years. Please more Tears for Fears. I've always loved the official video for their song "Head Over Heels." The one playing guitar sings lead on that song.
Been waiting 'a while' for you to get to this band, that was better than I thought, thanks! There are lots of beauties from them for you to listen to in time to come, so enjoy. In fact, a while ago one of the singers did an acoustic version with his daughter and it has 10 million views so far(!), I hope you check out their version of Mad World.
There’s a list of great TFF songs: Pale Shelter, Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains, I believe, Mad World, Advice for the you at heart, Head over hills, etc…
No, they weren't related, but Curt Smith, who's the main singer in this song, and Roland Orzabal, who's playing guitar, are British, I think come from the same neighborhood, met as teenagers, were in another band together very early on, but the two of them just vibed together, and found they were really on the same wavelength, and interested in the same kind of stuff, and had very similar upbringings, so broke off from that other group, and started Tears For Fears instead. They would both write songs, I think sometimes together, and sometimes separately, and they both perform, but some songs, one would take more of the lead, and other songs the other would, but either way, they were really great together. Seems like they were a pretty tight partnership for quite a long time, but after the fame, and the this and that, I think Curt Smith eventually just felt like he needed to be alone for once. I don't know exactly, but I think it's something like that.
This is one band, that's worthy of going down into the rabbit hole. They have so many good songs. I'm pretty sure, your parents know of them. And most importantly, they can perform them live, as good as the studio version. If you want to react to more Tears for Fears, here are some recommendations: 1. Head Over Heels (You'll love this. This, Shout, Elemental and Break it Down Again, are the Band's Anthems. Fans usually sing along with them) 2. Shout 3. Elemental 4. Break it Down Again 3. Advice for the Young at Heart (Beautiful Pop Jazz, very easy to listen to.) 4. Sowing the Seeds of Love (This is very Beatles Coded, though I don't know if you know that Band) 5. Pale Shelter (If you really like Everybody Wants to Rule the World, this is the closest one to it.) 6. Mad World (You probably have heard of this, without knowing. It's been in many Movies, TV Shows, Commercials, and it's been Covered by a lot of people.) 7. I Believe (a haunting sad Jazz Love Song. Unlike Mad World, I wish more people would cover this.) 8. Working Hour (I don't know if Progressive Jazz-Rock is a thing, but this is a great representative. You love Sax, so this should be up in your alley. Since I consider this having one of the best Sax in a song.)
It's not your current year playlist, full of 80s songs. It's John Hughes' playlist, from the 1980s. That one movie director was the biggest hit maker of the 80s. If the song was in a John Hughes teen movie, it was going to sell and get radio play.
WE LOVE YOU Miss Biss... Cool 80's tune. One of the most iconic numbers that define the era in music. Keep-a-rockin, Fam. Peace and love, all! Later, y'all.
Biss, Tears for Fears is a British "New Wave" band (among many) from the 80s. In this song, the main vocalist is bass guitar player Curt Smith, but in other songs by the band the lead vocalist is Guitarist Roland Orzabal (who sings the backing vocals in this song). Curt Smith recorded a video singing with his daughter during the pandemic, called "Mad World performed by Curt Smith of Tears for Fears". It's worth a reaction to this video, believe me you'll like it!
The song was featured on the soundtrack of several films including Felix the Cat, Friends of Peter, Romy & Michelle, School of Geniuses and Change Your Life with a Click. The song also appeared in the early trailers of the film Independence Day, but was eventually favoured by R.E.M.’s It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine). The song also appeared in the television series Numb3rs, Malcolm, Mr. Robot (played in melancholy-dissociated style by Angela Moss in the karaoke of a nightclub in the episode Illegal Interception) and in the video games Saints Row 2 and World in Conflict and was reinterpreted by Darren Criss in the popular television series Glee. In 2014, a cover by Lorde was featured on the soundtrack of Hunger Games: The Girl of Fire, and was later used in the trailers of Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Dracula Untold and in the final sequence of the first season of The Royals. The song was also performed in the film Pixels and in 2016 a cover of the band Ninja Sex Party was released. The song is also featured in the films Ready Player One and Bumblebee. On November 7, 2018, it was used in the fourth episode of the third season of the American television series Riverdale, and on May 15, 2020, it closed the first episode of the first season of The Great. The song has been sampled and remixed by many artists, singers and DJs, an example is that of Tiësto of 2023, in collaboration with the same Tears For Fears.
The best part of your reaction starts here 8:52 and when you express your disappointment at the song ending too soon it is preciously cute but remember my dear Bisscute the bad news is that nothing lasts forever but the good news is that nothing lasts forever ♥️
80s music... once again the greatest time for music! Great reaction Biss you are doing a great job with music choices! Another good song to listen to is Shout by TFF! Thanks for sharing Bisscute ❤️💛
I love that guitar bend as well n how you mimic it,😍it’s the best 8:08 Those little things add so much color n feeling to a song, whether it be a guitar bend , feed back, added percussion or a sound effect. It’s like I can’t wait for that part of the song n when it happens I shake my head like why is that so good n how brilliant that somebody created that..
This Song is the Essence of the 80s while at the Same Time being Completely Timeless, I Recommend the Movie " Real Genius " I think you will be pleasantly Surprised
this was #1 the week we moved to SoCal when I was 13 (don't do the math!) I had never been west of Ohio before that, so it felt like we were both experiencing California for the first time.
Great stuff. Also by Tears For Fears, try "Shout" (a big hit, you might recognise the hook/melody) and "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" (kind of a mini masterpiece)
Welcome to the "Tears for fears" rabbit hole. Actually they have a lot of songs you'll enjoy reacting to but one you'll definitely love is "Woman in chains", which has great lyrics with a deep message and a beautiful melody with amazing beautiful vocals including the collaboration of a great female singer with a stunning voice. Fun fact: Roland (the guitarist) is Argentinian, born in the argentinian province of Córdoba. This band was in the 80's quite famous worldwide until the beginning of the 90's. They have a lot of Hits and really a long list of beautiful songs, also among the ones which were not so popular or "commercial", with very nice melodies and good lyrics. Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
