You´re got reason!, personally I don't know if i can consider me like someone of the new generation, because I was born in the 2000s, but... I love very much this wonderful song, I know the complete lyric, in fact the 80s music is my favorite thanks to it, I love it!, and well... that explains everything, doesn't it?

🎵The meaning of the lyrics, can be summarised as follows: "It was during that time that the Cold War between the United States and Russia was at one of its peaks that this song was written. Thus many of the cryptic lyrics in it refer to that tense situation. However, what the track is about in general is the lust for power and control and the destructive consequences which manifest as a result. Thus it is also believed that “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” contains references to George Orwell’s classic book 1984. It is important to mention that 1984 is not only about war but also its fictional government’s all-encompassing desire to control the masses."🎶

I was 13 when this song came out it was about June of 1985 and the summer was just beginning. I had the misfortune of being hyper aware of the danger our world was in on a daily basis, not to an exact degree but I understood the destructiveness of nuclear weapons, the tension between both sides and that things were on a hair trigger. Right around Sept of 1983 I started to get nuke nightmares, imagine the scene from the 2nd Terminator movie but not as graphic. I knew what a nightmare was and had actually had a years worth of volcano nightmares I had just gotten over but this was different and it felt different. I felt something was wrong and that there was a palatable danger. These lasted until Nov of 1984. When this song came out I was about 6 months removed from those nightmares and I'm really really glad that I didn't catch the reference that starts at 3:28, I'm going to comment above. You are exactly right by the way, people today have no idea what it was like.
@sandgrownun66
@sandgrownun66 2 года назад
@@garrettlyang3324 Most people who were alive during the Cold War, just accepted it and got on with their daily lives. They just assumed that with nuclear weapons, another World War was inconceivable, and that proved to be the case.

Nice! This song ruled the radio the year I graduated from high school. I remember the class valedictorian wrote the speech he gave at our graduation around this song, especially the first verse -- "Welcome to your life \ There's no turning back." Lyric wise, I think the song is about how everybody wants to control the space they live in to some extent or another. Watching the video, an Interstate 10 sign flashes briefly. Given the desert terrain shown in the video, it looks to be some place near San Bernardino, California. The Exxon sign that flashes briefly shows the price of a gallon of gasoline was $1.45 at the time, probably a bit on the high side given the semi-remote location. Tears For Fears defined the synth pop sound of the eighties, with "Mad World" and "Pale Shelter" in 1983 and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Shout", and "Head over Heels" in 1985. They reformed and released an album this year featuring the lead single, "Break The Man", that deserves a reaction.

I actually speak Spanish, but I think my pronunciation is good, and I really like music in this language. And well... I think this was the song that made me interested in music from the past, but more specifically from the 80s, it's one of my favorites, from that time and generally speaking too. This was such a groove back in the '80s, I can't overstate it. This was at the height of the Cold War, so yeah the message is about Power Struggles and the proxy wars at the time. Fantastic pop song, sums up the eighties for me. My personal fave by them, "Woman in Chains".

This song makes me want to go cruising down the road in an Austin Healey.

3:33 -3:55 might be the darkest lyrics of the 80s and part of that is because they aptly described the times. The “light” is the initial flash of a nuclear weapon where everyone within a certain radius is incinerated immediately. “the walls come tumbling down” refers to the shock wave that comes after the initial detonation. You’re partly right but this song is really about the Cold War and how you had a enjoy every moment as it could be your last.

This song reminds me of the summers of the 80's when I was a teenager and goes well with the day we've just had (Fri) as it was the hottest day of the year in the UK at 34 degrees( 92 ferhenheit).the laed singer's are from Bath south west england.they were school friends curt Smith was the one in the car and Roland orbazel was the guitarist.

You have to dive in to more of their songs like Shout and Woman in Chains where the guitarist sings, actually he sings most of their songs. I actually prefer his voice but they're both really good.
