This song is literally my life. My parent is in the military and I move every 2-3 years. I’ve never had a friend from kindergarten. I’ve never memorised many pathways. I’ve never known everyone in my neighbourhood. I’ll never know that feeling. I love my life, I get to experience different cultures and ways of living, I get to see different people and buildings, I get to fly to places like Indonesia, Vietnam, the Grand Canyon, drive across country, and have field trips in an amazing school that go out of country. But then I leave. I leave behind my friends along with all of those memories. But it doesn’t matter. Because now I literally can’t grieve. I lost my grandmother not too long ago, and I mourned for a week, then I just stopped. I’ve only lived a year in the current place I’m in, and now I’m ready to move again. I’m excited to, and don’t even feel like I’ll miss the relationships I have here. I don’t miss any of my friends in the other places I’ve lived in, and thinking about it, that doesn’t sound normal. I lay awake staring at the ceiling most of the time, trying to figure out what’s wrong with me. Why don’t I have any close friends? I have close friends, but not *close* friends. I don’t tell anyone this stuff. Not even my family. Why can’t I feel grief? Is there something wrong with me? I wouldn’t miss any of my friends for more than a few days… does that make me a bad person? What’s wrong with me?

But when I think of it that line with the underwater effect reminds me of a friendship that I had that ended with my betrayal. The first half reminds me of the happy times we had together then the day the friend group fell apart

Got divorced going on two years now. My self esteem was so low I thought I’d never find anyone else to even be intimate with. But went through my phase of meeting random girls and one night stands.
