The ascend ability tells me we're definitely starting underground. It's the perfect opportunity to make the ascend ability seem significant; we're stuck underground for a significant amount of gameplay, then suddenly we're granted a bunch of new powers along with the power to leave.
Actually I feel like since link doesn't start out with his new arm I think he'll get the arm then not know everything about it then get captured and then learn it from someone
When I saw that Construct drop a Zonai Charge, I *FELT* the Zelda Theorist fandom just scream out in ecstasy, and when I say “felt” I mean the same way Obi-Wan Kenobi felt the Destruction of Alderaan in Episode IV.
Except the combat animations all seem to be the same or very similar to BotW, which had the least variety of all Zelda games sadly. Hopefully there's more to it! At the very least discovering new combinations of items will be fun
@@hylianro I'm interested to see how the Redeads fight. I really hope we get some enemies that aren't damage sponges and instead require a little strategy to fight like in old games
If you pause right at 1:20, there's a Korok wearing a big backpack. At first i thought it was a regular traveler - but then realized the sound it made. I know the point of this trailer was gameplay, and this is a weird thing to note - but that little guy being there tells me it's very likely we'll see more of Hyrule's species out and about or integrated in society? Idk, something about different areas being more diverse in species is so cool to me. Hopefully that also means there aren't 900 hidden koroks to find... lol.
I thought it was Beedle at first glance. But now that you mentioned it I saw it. Maybe the Korok needing to find its friend is like a sidequest thing to replace Korok seeds, also with Koroks being more out and about coupled with the Deku Tree seemingly being missing must mean they were chased out of the forest.
And when you have built something it looks like you will be using it for a brief time in a mini puzzle, then you just leave it. It doesn't seem to be a "save build" feature. You wont be able to horde 20 propellers and then build a flying jet.
What I love is that I was able to tell my wife who isn't as good at combat that she could overcome the gap by being a little more creative or resourceful, make use of many smaller weapons with fusion, or fight a completely different way instead of just finding a stronger weapon. It was there in BotW, but it's like this took that creativity and multiplied it by 5. I'm very excited to see the speedruns or ways people may just play it in general.
Ok, hear me out You attach one of those bombs we saw being thrown to your shield and boom, windbombing is now a feature Edit: After saying that I realized that they literally made durability transfer a feature since you can do it with fusing
The little Korok with the huge backpack at 1:19!! He needs to find his friend! I can't wait to find him when the game comes out and see what secrets he holds. I wonder if the Koroks will sell the Korok items that you can fuse with weapons and arrows.
One thing I've noticed was that those enemies are now guaranteed to be Zonai related because they drop an item called "Zonai Charge". So that means the sky islands likely have something to do with them.
@@aster-tataricus I wonder if they are related to the sky people from Minish Cap. They did the same thing, they just floated their kingdom away. Now that I think about it, their architecture looks kinda similar to what we've seen so far in the sky islands.
Indeed, so glad they decided to give them a new purpose, after upgrading everything and getting everything from that dark shop, those were pretty much useless
I think it's cool that they seem to be embracing the whole sandbox thing and figuring out how to let people get creative and tackle problems in unique and interesting ways. The fuse ability has the potential to take the idea of crafting to a whole new level. At this point, I can only imagine the possibilities.
There's 4 things I want to know. 1 What's the limit on making machines? Can you only stick so many things together or is it just whatever your switch can handle? They clearly saw people make flying machines in the first game and just said. Let's save em some trouble and just make flying machines. (Among other contraptions.) 2 What is going on with hyrule castle? We have had no info about it since the first time we saw it kinda start to rise out of the ground at the end of the first trailer. 3 Generally ANYTHING regarding zelda herself. And 4 Where is the master sword?! Did he lose it in the fall? How will we get it back?
I love the vehicle system, it’s like Nintendo saw the minecart hovercrafts people would make in breath of the wild and though, “what if we make a whole mechanic based on this?”
@@gektoast4968 You lay the foundation of the entire game based upon the mechanic/gameplay you need for it first. No way this is anything recent, the delay is most likely trying to input virtually ALL of the items to be coded properly for both Ultrahand and Fuse abilities. It's been 6 years since BotW has been released.
Soldier constructs are hostile, while these ranger constructs appear passive The minimap now has X Y AND Z coordinates on it Rotation uses the directional buttons The arrow swapping icon no longer appears, perhaps to focus on the fusing mechanic, no more elemental arrows as you can make them on the fly, makes room for more bows in the inventory too. So far we see four abilities - Recall - Fuse - Ultrahand (get it?) - Ascend R seems to be a secondary action button instead of always being throw weapon, perhaps you draw your weapon and then R allows you too throw it. Fuck magnesis, we can now levitate *anything* Magnesis is dead, long live ultrahand I miss the darker brown horse seen in the marketing material for BOTW
These mechanics are great and we can see how they'll make the open world fun, but man, I want to see this kind of stuff worked into dungeons. Imagine having to ascend into a hidden room above you to find some rare treasures or to escape a room you've been locked inside, or to have to fuse stuff to build a makeshift mechanism to open a gate or something.
I never got people's love for dungeons, but I'm pretty sure they'll be in this game. The director keeps saying that there's so much in this game that they haven't shown and many unique and creative ways to apply the new abilities.
For the ascend ability, Aonuma certainly alluded to it being useful when you are stuck in a cage or something with a ceiling. This might just be a reference to potential usage in a dungeon or at least a boss fight. Or it isn't and he just said that to illustrate the ability, but at least to me, it seamed like he is referring to a specific situation.
@@captainpep3 An ancient tribe who lived in the BotW world many years ago that went extinct, you can see their statues on the Faron region (dragons and dumb looking birds), the Typhlo ruins above the Korok Forest also seem to be made by them. We are seeing a lot of their symbols in the trailers, so people are excited
When I watched the gameplay and see that Zonai Zeltik is the first one that comes to my mind cause he theorized a lot about the Zonais having a huge role in this game and how hyped he would be
I see a lot of people being doubtful towards the idea of revisiting the same hyrule again (for the land part) but for what I have seen, Death mountain, Hebra mountain and the Gerudo desert all have some noticeable differences.
Those who are being doubtful simply aren't paying any attention whatsoever. From just the trailers and this gameplay clip alone it should be very obvious that there's a huge amount of changes to the game and the landscape and that's only scratching the surface. Some people of course just like to moan (and troll). Their loss.
I think what people are underestimating is that the world will have changed a lot in (unknown amount of) years that have passed since botw. It’s not like we’ll have to do the same things again just with new mechanics… idk why people saying it looks like a glorified dlc, it’s obvious that everything will be new and different
@@SlartiMarvinbartfast Yeah there are changes, but it still is the same world, it's like you add some extra elements to a painting, is it really a new painting? Anyway, the game isn't out yet, we'll see
I am a little worried still, to be honest with you. I'm mostly afraid I won't have the same wonder as my first time exploring in BOTW, where every corner felt like a new experience, if they're reusing areas. Of course, I expect them to do well and get it right, but there's still a part of me that's going to worry I won't enjoy it as much until the game is actually in my hands and I see for myself
@@Fermin-hw5pd idk are spiderman and miles morales the same game because they’re set in the same New York/world? Is god of war? It was literally stated in the trailer that it would take too much time to detail all the ways the world has changed, to believe it might not be as exciting as they make it out to be could be a cautious approach but to believe it’s a blatant lie is taking it too far with the negative attitude. Besides when has a main entry of the series been an uninspired, copy/paste letdown? It’s Zelda for crying out loud!
One of the items Link picked up from the Constructs was called the "Zonai Charge"! Seems like the Zonai, or at the very least their creations, weren't entirely lost to time.
That, or they got re-activared due to the precence of ganon being much stronger, I mean, the guardians got taken over by ganon, so i assume the zonai though this could happen and made sure their zonai things would float into the sky instead of just letting themselves be taken over.
@@Y_u_dum ooo that's a good point, hell they may have thought of this when Calamity Ganon first started appearing which is why they're entirely gone this time round. And now since it seems the true Ganon is back in full force their technology was activated to fend off potential threats, which may now include Link. But I wonder, it was theorized and hinted at in the game that the Zonai were something of a barbaric tribe, but I doubt if that was the case they'd have floating islands and an army of robots to defend themselves, with this seeming to be another form of ancient technology, maybe the Zonai and Sheika are more connected than we thought.
Notice the dilapidated houses everywhere? They have foundations and sign posts. I still think we will be rebuilding as a theme and that enemy bases, towns, and our home base will be buildable.
I'm interested to see the significance of the yellow trees, since Aonuma mentions them specifically being found mostly on the sky islands it seems they might significant in some way
The name of the ability ''Ultrahand'' is probably named after the toy that Nintendo manufactured in the 60's, created by the late Gunpei Yokoi, creator of the D-pad, among other things.
@@hylianro yea, wasn't it not made clear way back to 2019 that this game is a sequel? Of course it's gonna look somewhat similar, the UI ig is a bit of the same, but still, what did you really expect? The game to have a completely new map? With a completely new UI?
I'm calling it now, one month after release we'll all see a video titled "I made a working nuclear reactor in TotK with the fuse system" and I'm living from for it. So hyped
The dog still being at duelling peaks stable is a great detail, i just hope we can pet it this time.... I wonder if all the npcs from botw will still be around
This has almost nothing to do with the gameplay footage itself but I ADORE Eiji Aunuma's English Translator as he even replicated Eiji's giggling as he talked during the segment talking about Fuse 😂its such a good detail that most would leave out in translation and it made it really feel like Aunuma was speaking to us in English and I love his translator for doing that
I noticed right after he builds the boat and reaches the shore there is a zonai construct that has a speech bubble. This makes me think that some of the constructs get corrupted by Ganon. You can't see it in your video due to your camera, but if you go to 9:04 of the trailer on nintendo's channel it will appear on the right side of the screen for a split second.
How are so few people talking about this? I paused the video, it says ‘Ranger Construct’. They look kinda reptilian? It’s hard to tell what meant to be what at this angle.
I feel ascend confirms surface world caves. Think about it. You delve down, but they're natural constructs and don't teleport you to the surface. Instead you go through the ceiling to get back to ground level. Gonna be some puzzles related to that I guarantee
My two cents on a meat arrow: You could probably use it to place bait at a distance. Luring enemies with meat was already a feature, but we could only do so as far as we could throw it. But with a bow and arrow? Way easier to lure enemies away from camps.
It seems like the Sheikah tech (esp. the shrines and slate) may no longer be present in TotK in favor of the Zonai techs. A good hint is in at the end of the BotW secret ending where Zelda mentioned that Vah Ruta is not functioning
The world didn't seem darkened like in Twilight Princess or gloomy like in Mjora's Mask, so I am curious about how they will build the ambiance and depth of a world that is allegedly supposed to be the darkest game yet.
I also wondered about the meat arrows! I'm very excited about all of the piles of building materials, hope that we get to interact with and help build new (hopefully usable) facilities throughout Hyrule like we did Tarrey Town in the last game. I was always very disappointed that we didn't have more of that as post-game content.
I think the ascend ability is going to be used for underground exploration. Think about it, it makes sense if you can’t fast travel underground but simply use the ascend ability to climb back up to Hyrule from where you currently are.
the crafting and fusing is so much more intricate than what i expected. I wonder if they took inspiration from people making makeshift airships and stuff? People are gonna make some crazy stuff with this
I LOVE that fuse ability! The possibilities are basically endless! I love how they looked at what people were doing with botw (making makeshift flying machines with minecarts and magnesis for example) and decided to go all in on that. It's going to be so fun!! And I love how the Ascend ability looks too! The fact that when you reach the top, there's a prompt to exit which makes me think you can actually hang out there for a bit before exiting? Can't wait for this game!
There is also a _back_ prompt at the verrry bottom of the screen when you begin to Ascend, and it remains there even while Link is in that half-buried state the top. So I assume the game lets you hang out like that until you decide to either commit to the Ascend (exit) or return (back) to where you originally came. Clever. Let's players experiment and peek around freely.
@@Graphomite oh yeah! I see it now, cool! That's so cool! It means you could ascend up and peek out but if you see the area is infested with monsters or something you could go back and drop back to the ground! Such a cool feature?
@@Vixin24 I know, right? Not only can we shoop a doop up mountains and platforms, but "nope" right back down them? So neat. Nintendo really just letting the players have fun with the mechanics. TotK Link is overpowered in the best way.
I'm noticing that they've taken a few notes from Age of Calamity for certain things. Like having an instant food option. I wonder how it will work in the game?
So still hoping for underwater options. My guess is crafting items will be required, maybe with an armor that we need to reacquire or make? Heavy metal/stone attached to a shield to be pulled down? Gems to upgrade items? Looks like there is still cooking options... Probably even more options to do the same things!
The fact that those enemies are called constructs makes me wonder if even they are modular. Like there could be a great variety of enemies with some of the same basic parts. One can dream.
These feel like features that would be really cool. In game that isn’t Zelda. There’s something about a battery icon in that setting that just rubs me the wrong way.
In the section where he demonstrates the ascend ability, its in a town of some type. There is an item shop icon on the minimap. Also noted some type of shrine on the minimap when he is skydiving.
I’ll put below here something y’all need to know (including Zeltik for his analysis video): At 9:02 - 9:03, that Construct guy looks very similar to the enemy we saw in the E3 2021 trailer. The green one with the egg-looking things on his head. Except that, this Construct is not an enemy. It is an NPC, because its name flashes over its head, and the “Talk” option appears, both for a split-second. Its name is “Ranger Construct” implying it’s more passive than the Soldier Constructs that attack Link in this video. Edit: You can’t see the name here because Zeltik’s facecam is covering it, but it is there in the other reactions. I also realise the time when the Talk option and the name show up are inbetween 9:02 and 9:03. Sad.
Kinda makes you wonder though if ancient weapons will even be in this game. If all the sheikah tech and guardians are gone, than how would you get these things? Unless, theres a new marketplace for scavaged items and people are selling them
I swear when I watched the video by myself and I saw the word Zonai charge pop up I immediately had to think of you Zeltik! Gosh I'm soo excited for this game!!! 🤩🤩 3:33
The new crafting system solves the issue of players hoarding top quality gear that they'll never use. Experimentation with combat is encouraged since you'll most likely be using expendable sticks and stones
Ok. Hear me out. In most of the promotional images, we see Link has four green vials on his hip where the Sheika Slate used to be. In this gameplay demo, we see link has four base abilities, essentially runes: Recall, Fuse, Ultrahand, and Ascend. I think we get these four abilities on the first sky island via the green vials on Link's hip. We probably unlock them in the first four shrines. Link also has four empty vial slots on his hip. These are almost definitely the dungeon items/abilities. The number four also matches how many divine beasts and therefore Champion abilities there were in BOTW. I think the evidence is pointing towards four dungeons with unique abilities/vials in each one. I just hope the abilities are more like classic Zelda dungeon items and not the same as the Champion abilities (passive buffs that you don't really get until after beating the whole dungeon). I want these new abilities to be critical to solving the dungeons, but you can tackle the dungeons in any order. Overall, this gameplay demo was so cool and I can't wait to discover what the Zelda team is hiding so carefully in this game.
MEATARROW! MEATARROW! MEATARROW! MEATARROW! Also, at the end, after he falls off the sky island and is skydiving, he does a pan around the kingdom. Its possible to see that he is probably close to where the great plateau should be. You can also clearly see cubes in the sky directly above where the labyrinths should be. You might be able to extrapolate a lot based on where certain sky islands appear relative to the ground, and that one shot is probably the best locating shot yet. Theres also a lot of those new towers with the 4 spotlights.
The reason why nothing much has changed in the graphics of the game from botw is that they focused more on the innovations that will make this game different. Imagine finding a hundred items and in-game and you can fuse it as you like depending on how you think you can use it. Damn our imagination is our limit in this game.
As someone that is known to get lost in crafting, I am hyped for this. Now the only thing I’m left questioning is if we’ll actually get to play as Zelda in some parts of the game. Doubtful, but still something I’d love to see happen.
A friendly tip, don't focus on what you've been shown, this was just a demo of the new mechanics of the game. Focus on what you'll discover when playing it, thats what Zelda is about 😉
Great to see you back from PAX safe and sound! (I'm the guy who brought the Hylian Shield you and Monster Maze signed on Sunday lol) This game looks WILD, even more so than Breath if the Wild!! 😂🤯
Gameplay mechanics are very cool. But. I need some traditional Zelda stuff too to keep the essence of the series alive. If there’s no dungeons to utilise this stuff then I’ll be extremely disappointed! Cos god knows I can’t take anymore shrines!
