I was literally just thinking this exact thing today. Thought I should finish TOTK, booted it up, got overwhelmed with how much I needed to do but didnt know what exactly to do, and ended up closing it. I’ll save that for another day..
The game has so much content it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Although it may be my favourite game I took some rests. Usually I’d choose one aspect to focus on and stopped caring if I finish it or not. I was over 200h when I felt like completing it. I’m not a completionist, and there’s more to do but during that period I always felt engaged by the game. So it’s probably the most time I’ve spent on a single player game. My sweet spot for game length tends to be around 15-20h so that’s pretty impressive. The only thing I had some issues with was the number of in-game currencies. I wish that was a bit more streamlined. That being said, I strongly feel like the game is perfect for shorter playthroughs. Focus on the main quests and engage with whatever random thing you happen to face on your way but without feeling compelled to finish anything else. The game doesn’t ask much of the player for completion. The choice of what to engage with is always in our hands. Given how much is out there that pretty much guarantees enough variety for most people.
