Teasing the battle theme for over one hour - Game Music Done Right 

Yeahh im noticed in my 1st playthru, its like at 1st wait the song isnt finish yet, till the actual song is play, damn theyre so good at making this

I didn’t really take in how well they did it. I realized it was different but this break down made me go back and experience it again. What a beautiful moment

Yep. From the tutorial battle, I thought, "Oh - they redid the battle theme. Booo." An hour later, I was WAITING for the 17 note progression, but they tease it with only 7... "Damn! That was my favorite part of the theme!", I thought. Oh well. Still rocks. Then the town battle. And it's SO big at the start. You can feel the goosebumps start on your arms and when that progression actually hits the full 17 it's like, "God DAMN it feels good to be a gangster!"

I've been trying to determine the first instance of this, but it's a deep rabbit hole. Even Mario World does something similar with Yoshi drums...

I sure as heck wouldn't disagree. I don't know how after 23 years, hearing it can still feel so awesome!

Oh. Oooooh. Jenova, yes indeed! If I had all the free time in the world I'd cover FF7R the same way I just did Xenoblade 3... maybe there's a reasonable half-way?

I'm kind of glad it's different, makes future events that we know happen in the original a little more uncertain (looks at Aerith)

A remake should be a remake, not a new game.

​@@octavia8836 I know it's a 1 year old comment but I want to say my opinion as well. The word "Remake" does not mean a 1:1 adaptation of a game/movie/etc. People tends to believe that a lot, but the meaning of Remake is "to make anew" so there is no a strict rule saying that it must be 1:1. A great example can be MGS Twin Snakes were while the story is similar has several moments not present in the original such as the slowmotion scenes, or RE 2/3/4 which are more connections to each other than before. Sure, with the ads and merchandise Square made us believe that the FF7 Remake Project is a 1:1 adaptation and maybe that was the wrong thing to do, but honestly I love what they are doing by telling a same story but with the addiction of the entire FF7 Compilation and also giving a possible end to its story by telling us a sequel at the same time.

Right like... if you want to play the OG story, it's available on emulators! I like the OG game just fine. Its okay to have something a bit different.

I played FF7R JUST TO hear the music in context (some of the OST was previewed ahead of the launch). Wait 'til you hear what they did with the boss theme (like 5 custom remixes) and JENOVA, and One-Winged Angel. ...frankly each of these deserves a stand-alone video of mine.

It's, uh, complicated. Most of the time I'm not, as English isn't my first language and I have to redo takes and edit them together. I just leave gaps and try to have the right facial expression! BUT when it matters, I make sure I'm actually listening. It's the case for the three FF7R battle themes, and for A Link Between World's Hyrule Field 2, and Celeste's Reach for the Summit, and Ace Combat 7's Daredevil, etc.

I welcome it! (Funny thing: this series actually lost me subs so far, because I got those 7k with my Necrodancer covers!)

I don't disagree. One of the reasons video game music is such a strong genre is that for a couple decades, composers had a limited number of instruments to work with, and those instruments had limited texture. They had to make sure every audible detail pulled its weight, so the music has strong melodies (and counter-melodies).

@@Banana-cc5rx much, not all, of rebirths music is just crap. There was several points in my playthrough where I literally asked myself what the heck I was listening to. The remixes of original ost music was fantastic, but when it was time for something new, it sounded like it was from a completely different game and didn’t match the tone at all

Wait, which part is that? I hear every note of the melody... Do you mean, um, the coutermelody, which *is* somewhat butchered?

@@NicD I mean as you say the first several times they introduce it - you refer to it as a 'tease' but personally I'm like 'nuh uh, fuck off, you don't tease one of the single greatest lines of video game music you give the people what they want'
