That's a watch maker's watch plate holder design from the early 1900's - I have two of them. I can see how that would work for this as well. I wish I had thought of it.
This looks great.... maybe a little better than the Knew Concepts clamp I recently bought from Rio. Oh well. I'm enjoying this one; I'll keep it. BUT, I need to ask what I'm doing wrong in my sawing. In this video, you have virtually no debris of lube or metal dust obstructing the view of your cutting line. When I do piercing, I have to clear away the debris very frequently. Is it my saw blade size (I'm using 3/0, I think, on about 18-22 g sheet silver)? Is it my lube (Pepe push-up lube.... slightly crumbly)? Too much lube? I'm happy with my piercing, but hate how often I have to sweep my view.
Unfortunately, debris does go with the sawing process, but you can minimize it somewhat by not using a sawblade that is smaller than you need to, thus creating extra metal dust. Here is a link to the saw blade chart for different gauges, www.riogrande.com/article?name=Saw-Blade-Specification-CGl. Another tip from our Jewelry Tech Team - blowing as you go this works pretty well, unless you are working with gold and don’t want to blow away your scrap dust! We hope this is helpful!
