17:48 in your first video you mentioned toe side, put your front hand on your front knee for positioning. In this clip, your hand is much closer towards your high back, which I find more beneficial for body positioning/leaning away from the snow. Reaching a little towards the high back helps me keep rotation and also encourages leaning away from the snow and better edging. A Donek rider video mentioned a drill of rear hand to front toe on heel side and front hand to front heel on toe side. While I don’t try to touch, I find that really helps me hold what I feel is better posture (haven’t videoed to see), especially on toe side. Once I realize I’m bent forward and then correct it by reaching for my heel, it really helps lock in the carve. Thank you for your content, it has been so useful for improving my carving.

Yeah, lower is better but some people have trouble even reaching the knee so we start there.

I just picked up a late 90’s “hot logic” carving board and hard boots with new liners in my size from another old timer. So that I could try carving in hard boots again. So modern boards are much better are they. ? Well I’ll find out in the next week as I’m on my way to Switzerland!!

It looks like Martina might be more comfortable in a duck stance seeing the way her back knee keeps pointing rearward for stability I really appreciate the frame by frame brake down and for me the most important lesson here is Line Choice! I have the same problem with the back knee pointing outward on heel side creating that cowboy stance you referenced. I try to rotate it in and can’t seem to get it right and my body still faces the side of the board instead of the front. Any tips on pointing that back knee in and driving the body position to be more forward? Will a more positive stance angle help? Currently 33f/18r
@cherrycarves

Yeah, we kept upping her stance angles to try to solve this problem... My recommendation is to use more cant and lift in the back foot.

@@cherrycarves I find that if I think about not just going knock-kneed as an end it itself but doing it so my board flexes a bit I'm a little more active with tucking my knee and squaring my hips and my upper body. Is this self-defeating or is this a reasonable way to think about it? Also, I implemented your the touching your knee tip in my last trip. Really helped. It's funny how there are parallels with surfing technique. As the Hobgoods say, "Hand down, man down." Thanks for the great vids!
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 5 месяцев назад
@markwadia8313 Ya if it's working then do it! You and I may be doing the exact same motion but thinking about it differently or using different verbal cues to get us to the same place. What does "hand down man down" mean? And what's a Hobgood? I'm not a surfer. Yet.

@@cherrycarves cool. Will keep on keepin on. Sry… thought you mentioned that you surfed in another vid. The Hobgoods are two brothers who were Championship Tour competitive surfers. It’s a technique to get the rider low during bottom turns. It refers to getting your hand low enough to touch the water. It is a different technique than snowboarding but does share some similarities

Correct. Your posi-posi stance should be narrower than your duck stance.

James this is great!! and his wife has great style! A snowboard professional always told me that the conventional boards on the market have the waist too wide for my size 21 or 22 boots 🫠. You comment just the opposite and now I am a sea of doubts.... 21.5 cm waist for a size 22 boot with double positive? How do you see it? Too small? I just bought Burton Lexa X bindings and Thirtytwo TM2 Hight . Waiting to try the combo next week....🤸🏾‍♀️ (There is no size of the Nidecker Kaon, Ride C8 bindings)
@cherrycarves
@cherrycarves 5 месяцев назад
Martina had size 24 boots and 26.5 waist in this vid. Now she rides size 23 boots and a 26 waist. This is a good fit for her, both. The mondo plus 2cm rule of thumb works better for larger feet, since the boot length is shorter relative to the foot length in larger sizes. So you may need plus 3 or 4cm. Size 22 boot? 25cm waist. But you'll have to adjust that for sidecut radius, snow type, binding type, stance angles, stance width, riding style... Who made your custom 21.5 waist? How does it feel when you try to carve a woman's board with a 24.5 or 25cm waist? How close are the ends of your binding to the edge of the board in your preferred stance? Try your new setup and see how you like it. I'm guessing that if you ride like Martina, it'll be too narrow. And don't listen to "snowboard professionals"... They're mostly caught up in the "group think" mentality and won't understand your specific needs. Good luck. If you need more help email me next time with photos of your setup.
@elenajb8479
@elenajb8479 5 месяцев назад
🤯My head just exploded!!🤯 The waist and boot size ratio you mention is the one I always use, perhaps the widest 27 cm with my triple base. And I always felt good, it's just that I have a hard time centering my feet (the small foot, bindings, wide board) I was almost always off-center. With the new narrow board I am much more aggressive, faster, I can do things easily, but I also feel like I have to make physical effort to maintain the line. The very whore seems to want to take me to the other extreme. Little pressure on my part? Boots and bindings too soft? The sidecut is the longest I've ridden to date and the board is crying out for posi posi. Too many changes and few days of driving to draw my own conclusions. As soon as I receive the new boots I will email you!! The board is amazing with challenging edges, they built for me just what I asked for. I knew I could be wrong!!! I'm not ready to design shapes myself yet!!🤓 I have a feeling it could be the board of my dreams, increasing the toughness of the interface and the positivity!! Thanks, teacher!!🏂🏾

About that back leg (of your wife). If she knows that the knee should go inside, but she doesn't do it - is that suggests that this is because of "mobility limitation"?

I think it's just hard to unlearn bad habits sometimes, and easy to forget about the knee when she's focused on so many other things at the same time while ripping steeps at high speed.
