The fickle press, all fixated on the last 10 minutes, the penalties, as Southgate, responded with grounded answers forcing them to look again at the match, our history in these tournaments, and the kind of formations we have had to counter. Unless we hear it directly from the manager, we won't hear it all from the press.
Great resilient man who carries himself with class and respect through hell which entitled English fans and media give baying for blood. 3 semis and 1 final in 6 years and now a penalty win is the best managers record ever in England. Trust your process Gareth, 2 more wins will guarantee a knighthood and the same fans and media will call you the best ever. Well deserved Gareth - you are a great man and manager
Well said, mate. Gareth has taken some very harsh stick that he doesn't deserve. He's a top manager and a top bloke and he's got us to another semi-final. If social media wasn't around today we'd be drooling at the prospect of how far this team can go but, unfortunately, fans seem to grab hold of useless analyses of RU-vidrs who are only negative so they can get as many likes as they can. Very sad.
Well done Southgate.....plz don't listen to the outside noise. We move...... we're gonna win this Euro. Let's just stay humble. Love 💕 from Sierra Leone.
We are getting better and better - Southgate is not useless either….. despite what’s said. He’s not pep or klopp of course but better than most recent previous England managers by a long shot
Tactically inept, his got away with it. You need a bit of luck to win a tournament too, and history tells us not the best team always wins. He seems to be lucky maybe it's his moment but the subs lark is ridiculous and he needs to drop kane is unfit. Kane positioning in 6 yard box is evident with saka crosses today and then wandering deep asking for trouble. Watts and tooney might get behind van dyke if we can play forward and quicker through the channels
@@markwillson2491 It's the nature of this sport that everyone believes they would make a good manager. Everyone would have their own favorites on the pitch, and everyone, taking their lead from the tabloids, would play the latest in-form player. The best team is always going an evolving balance of youth and experience, to achieve stability. We aren't the best team by a long shot, We prepare the players we have for the opposition we find, we devise tactics and systems to contain the opposition, and then we look for chances. We don't simply pick our best 11 and then go out and play. Today we saw Saka doing something we rarely do, and that is play off the corner of the box. most of the time we want to 'walk' the ball into the goal, or pass the ball in from the wings for a tap=in, or rely on set pieces. If we are tactically inept, Then i say it's not setting up players to curl a shot under pressure through a body of players. Mixing it up. Tonight we were fortunate to have a talented player who could rise to the moment. That only happened because of the manager's selection, and him sticking with a core of players he has already exposed to the pressures of this sport. We had the likes of Kane drawing the defense to him like a magnet to create the space for other players. Gone are the days of matches won by familiar headline players, The press would have us cling to what they know fails.
It may look like an excuse but he is absolutely right with the pitch they played on. On behalf of all Germans I want to excuse for the pitch in Gelsenkirchen. It currently is not in a shape to play games on. Absolute disgrace.
As if there was anything to copy from this England. You had tons of luck, help by refs (e.g. Kane can dive however much he wants) and some individual plays. Literally zero to copy
Where does he play Palmer now though after Saka played so well. I still think Palmer is more effective coming on against tired legs. It makes him look even more dangerous too. Frightens opponents
The only spot on comment as I read through. It is so blindingly obvious that CP should start over Trippier, even more so as an advanced wing player. Trippier is utterly useless going forward and offered nothing on the left. Everything was on Saka’s shoulders because the left was toothless.
He should do though. Ronaldo shouldnt have played as much as he did either, doesnt matter that he's ronaldo, there are better options@chrisliddiard725
@@Spocklogic1 If the only thing to matter in football were those deceptive stats, you might have a point. Harry should have spent the match improving his stats with senseless 5-yard passes. He didn't play that game and now gets knocked for it. What he did do was to take his markers on a dance, creating space for others.
Say what you want to say Gareth, " we might not be firing on all cylinders yet but we're getting the job done despite having the most appalling treatment from the worst media in the world and some of the worst fans also. Leaking tactics, personal attacks, mocking, throwing bottles, disrespect, joining in with foreign media in mocking us, zero patriotism, so dont critise my team when youre all a piss poor representations of england as a whole". Amen Gareth. 😂
Gareth is real quality. A little more commitment & professional integrity fm Rashford, Sterling, Lingard & we'd be winning this pot with ease ... Rashford, especially needs to look at himself .. sadly. We also miss Maguire .. he's been massive in internationals ...
Southgate must adapt a fearless approach to his starting XI or his substitutes. Scraping results is not a merit. Is luck. England are good enough to win this tournament. Is themselves stopping this from happening. Go out there and play without fear. Bellingham is not irreplaceable nor should Kane be. Play as a collective and you go far!!
Great comment and must be said, anyone here saying GS is doing a great job as a strategist is clueless. He’s good at protecting players egos and keeping a happy camp, but his tactics are fear based and unfortunately he won’t change, he is stifling the talent. They are winning despite of him.
Easy runs. Terrible football. Overuse of players who aren't performing always ends up costing us and likely will this tournament. We're going through games not creating a single clear cut chance. It's not sustainable. We've had an easy run and picked up one win in 90 minutes!
Agreed, and I don't know why there is such a hate campaign against him, best manager in my lifetime and his results speak for themselves. Imagine what they could do if pundits, media and fans got behind them instead of tearing them down.
Fans don’t respect Southgate! Listen he gets the job done! Semi final. Give the man some respect. England never steam rolled any competition ever! We should start backing the boys and the manger! Forget all this negativity! Come on 🎉
So sick of the hate and negativity directed at Southgate and the team, it must take its toll... imagine if the media, pundits, and fans tried to lift them up instead...
@@leannewarren I'm almost 38 years old this squad of players and there's more who didn't make the cut are the best group we've had in my opinion and what I've witnessed is anything but? losing against Slovakia, losing against Switzerland it took 2 moments of individual brilliance with a manager who's got his favourites - we are very lucky to be where we are but I cannot fault the effort of anyone even Southgate but let's stop for second and think, we haven't done nothing? easiest route, poor performance after poor performance very safe, slow football mates rates fc the individual quality is what is keeping us alive! imagine if we had a manager who could harness the talent into a machine like style of play? we would be great
@@leannewarren of course the argument is Southgates got us into another semi final but I simply won't accept that because the manner how it's been done was basically like Russian roulette, it's not sustainable, we could of easily lost to Slovakia our effort cannot be questioned but we are totally disillusioned to think we are good...
Qualifying against Switserland is not a bad feat, but England have been very lucky throughout the tournament and the football was pretty underwhelming. Then again the same could be said about 3 of the 4 semi_finalists, especially France.
One difficult and honest question from a German journalist. He doesnt like it. Sycophantic questions from the English journalists who just want another interview. Sickening. We are playing rubbish because of the stupid team layout from the MANAGER who isnt fit enough to manage a championship team.
Fair play he brought on subs soon enough and made the right decision hopefully England get better playing this formation and hopefully shaw can start on that lwb
Even as a big Southgate supporter, I was beginning to doubt this tournament, but I think last night confirms his impact. Whatever the result on Wednesday, he has been fantastic for English football. He will be missed.
ur technical plan was shared 8 years ago at this point southgate is just a cheerleader all the players say how great a man manager not one player has said hes a great tactical technician give him a role on the FA bored but plz give him a life time ban on going anywhere near a football ever again
Why did England qualify given the plan was shared 8 years ago? Share me your thoughts on Italy, France, and all other teams england have faced in the World cup and Euros from these last two? I'd be interested in seeing what you have.
@@Larry4life u see the teams we played world cup to euro's pretty imposs not to when ur playing teams that would even be in our league 1 , players that are semi pros being paid 200 pounds aweek agaisnt playes on 250K aweek we play any top 20 team we will lose everytime
@@simonshotter8960it’s not about the history… it’s about the players GS has at his disposal now.. several PL winners and Champions League winners… not once but multiple times… It’s how they are managed and set up that is why results aren’t as they should be… this generation should be double Euro and at least a World Cup bunch of winners
@@simonshotter8960 We're in the SF because we haven't played a top team yet. Were we on the other side of the draw we'd be out already. Luck is playing a huge part in this manager making semis all the time.
England make the opponent not look a shade of itself. Sorry but you need to take your trumpet out of your ass. Most of us were thinking the Swiss will kill us in this game, given how both teams have played throughout the tournament. England have proved us wrong. Southgate has proved us wrong. Just support them and hope something good comes of it.
Southgate is deluded we have had the luck of the Irish we have been just about getting though I meen Slovakia Denmark Slovenia and and even Serbia we should not be having any trouble with these teams but seem to just about scraped by anyone who thinks we have done well is seriously not well in the head
Someone did ask about Kane he contributed absolutely nothing to the team Southgate and he should have been substitute after the second half he's just not got the legs anymore rubbish.
He was a magnet for the opposition's defense, attracting at least two of their finest, and in that way creating space for the other players. Be thankful he is still feared for his reputation as our leading goal scorer. He wasn't on to run end to end but to add stability as a captain, doing the less obvious.
I’m not loving GS’s attitude. We should be steam rolling these teams, yet his poor tactics and misuse of top players is making it harder than it needs to be and boring to watch!
It's harder against teams you expect to steamroll. That rarely happens. You really can't claim otherwise as all the factual info is out there year in year out.
Tell that to France, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands who were all expected to beat "smaller teams" they came up against really easily. Didn't happen. Two of those teams aren't in the competition anymore. One of those still hasn't scored a goal in open play. I've not included Spain because they've actually done really well and performed as expected
If they are playing a back 5, of course, it's going to be harder to break them down. Formations like that call for other measures. Fortunately, tonight we had that silver bullet.
As a german I can tell you, winning a big tournament needs much more than playing beautiful. First of all you need to play successful. Every game is 'death or lieutenant' and not to die in playing good. Argentina has the same attitude, Italy and Germany used to have.
Do you and france think about entertaining 😂 much better with the different formation tonight and i enjoyed the game, but for a neutral i can imagine its a turn off
God we need him to quit...before worlds...hes such a bad manager....kane needs to be benched..and he needs to go.. they way he drinks that water says it all doesn't it🤣🤣🤣so then why you bring Gordon...bench warmer...explain it then..cause its ridiculous
I really want us to win for Gareth now. I feel the man needs a good cry and let out of emotion. He has the media and fans seemingly at times always against him. Yet 3 Semis in 4 tournaments can we really complain? We’ve had better teams and done worse. I get the footballs awful and we expect more from top quality players.
@saimchoudhary136 he's got a very talented squad that's kind of carried him and are misfiring, cabable of much much more but succeeding inspite of their management.
