in this video, everything is absolute 💯 %, heavyweight technics decks, plus this really superb track selection & mixin'. and the mixer is a beauty, too. just because i was looking for info about the sl1200g decks i came across this top dj set.
@@darrentolley1068 I remember installing mine for the first time. I was like: I thought my M5G was heavy... But their newest model, the MK7, is the opposite. It's as light as a feather.

Hi Ben, thanks so much for stopping by and having a look. You’ve asked some great questions. Questions which I was seeking 3 years ago as well. I already owned a RANE MP2015 Rotary before pulling the trigger on this DN78 Audiophile version. The RANE is digital but this is analogue. I looked at the condesa, mastersounds as well but this was the only one which had valves. Mastersounds didn’t have any valve mixers until a year later. Build quality I believe the condesa to be top out of all 3, sound warmth the DN78 all the way, layout i’d pick the 2V, resistance on the DN78 pots is just so lush. My industry freinds all say this DN78 is the best mixer they’ve ever heard. Warm as hell. Backup from formula sound direct is great. Please keep me updated on your progress, cheers brother
HunuaHustle Superstereo the brand had a bad start in the industry with service & problems. They then sold the rights to the DN78 to formula sound direct in the uk which make all of the funktion one stuff which is top notch. Lots of dudes slag the brand superstereo as a result but it was sound that i wanted & got. If your jumping into the rotary mixer side of things you will never look back. its such a whole different level of enjoyment and style. I would definitely go with valve due to the distinct warmth in the sound.

Hey, great set! Please for advice, I know you have experience with all models.. I used the new MK5 earlier and sold it long ago, unfortunately. Now I have found the MK2 as new in perfect condition. I'm only interested in one thing, it's not a problem with money. Should I buy 2 x 1210 GR or buy 2 x perfect 1210 MK2? I know the GR has a digital pitch of + - 0.1% and I don't like that, but it still has a better engine and torque. Which is better for long mixing, the length of mixing without touching the plate? What is more stable? This is the most important thing to me, because I mix techno, minimal and tech house... and my mixes last for a few minutes. Help me, I'm in a big dilemma.
I’ve had all the technics models including the mk5, 3D, 5G, 2 and obviously the 1200G in this video. The digital pitch is great on the GR & G. I would still prefer the mk2 for that oldskool feel, but you will never get any turnable to be accurate over several minutes for a mix without touching the platter.
@@darrentolley1068 Of course, I didn't think the mix would be able to go for 3 minutes without touching the plate, although, that also happened. When I had the new MK5, if they are good vinyl, I could hold the mix for a very long time, without touching it, for more than 45 seconds for sure. But if it has to be done every 10-15 seconds, then that's not good. I have heard bad experiences with digital pitch control, that it is not as accurate as analog, that the resolution is lower and that it is therefore necessary to constantly touch the plate. Try to find the perfect beat on both vinyls and let them see how long it can go without touching. In any case, thank you for your willingness to help me. I bought as new MK2, without a single point, they only worked for Hi-Fi. Maybe I'll take GR later, if they are really like MK2 and MK5 for mix, and that can only be confirmed to me by someone who has them, as you.. Thanks

Darren, Have you tried using the 33/45 nudging technique with them. I am told it will work but you have to be careful not to press both buttons at the same time. Thanks!

Hi Darren, congratulations for your setap and also for the DJ Set, great music, I have a dilemma, I am Italian specifically Sicilian, DJ producer for over 35 years, I still work with real vinyl and sometimes I also use software as a traktor for need but mostly my sets are with real vinyl. I have a collection of about 15000 vinyls, and I play the same musical genre as you, they offered me the mk7 considering that I had mk2 mk5 m5g, now for a mistake I have removed everything, I find myself without turntables, I continuously see videos of the grs, not I can economically get to the g series, but I have to choose between gr and mk7, since you have the g what do you recommend considering that the g series have been cataloged for audiophile use? Is it true that there are differences in the pitch between gr g and mk7 ?? I know about the different engine but as you say by lowering the torque, I don't know how to do it, I solve the problem, Technics talks about a different pitch calibration between gr g mk7, I don't believe it, I think it's just a commercial thing to push more mk7, what do you think and what do you recommend ?? thanks is a greeting from Palermo (Sicily)
Thanks for your question. The dilemma is. The G is the most amazing sound. Good to absorb vibration. Pitch is accurate but no great for those obsessed with DJ pitch feel. GR is about the same. MK7 great pitch for DJing but sound absorbtion at noisey gigs is terrible.
thanks for your quick reply, i think i will go cintro current and buy the grs, both for build quality and design, here in italy for dding they only use mk7 and old mk2, but the build quality of the mk7 is too poor and the cost is excessive. I do not pretend that the song is in the bar 30/45 seconds, I am also used to mixing the 70s / 80s and many corrections are made, for me this is not a problem, what interests me is how to adjust the torque of the engine , by chance it is the brake key, if yes, please confirm that it is set to low, thank you very much, greetings

Great set and setup Darren. Love these videos. Am about to take the plunge myself on a 1200G. Did you have to alter the torque for mixing at all. Have read a few articles from hardcore audiophiles who insist this is no DJ friendly turntable, but if you must then you might want to turn the torque down. My mixing style is very similar to what I can see in your video, so was just curious as I can't see any DJ reviews for these. Just audiophile referencing reviews.Cheers 👍🏽
Hey Leon, great wuestions for sure. Yes when I first set them up I didn’t know about the torque settings and myself & two other of my kong term dj professionals battled with them for a whole weekend. Then i adjusted the torque and it was completely different. Prob not for djing if you want pitch control that is user freindly but my criteria was to caress the most beautiful turntables ever made and have the sound which leaves every ther technics in the dust. The 1200G do this but for djing the require more manipulation during the mix.

@@darrentolley1068 : I have gotten one to try and see if I want to replace my classic mk2, I love the new turntable but feel it is hard to mix (as sadly I am used to touching platter when I mix) and the motor is so strong it barely slows it down, I haven't messed with the torque setting but I assume that is what was different after you adjusted the torque setting?
@@dorl3152 Great, let me know how you go. Also pay attention to the sound difference. Play the same track on your MK2 at the same time on the 1200G and switch between both. It’s a huge difference. The 1200G is a bit more work in the mix.
@@darrentolley1068 : I do feel like the sound is better, and love the feel of it overall. I was hoping it would do a better job isolating vibrations than MK2 with Isone feet, it does do a better job but not as much as I'd hope, theres still a lot of vibration. To confirm, so after changing the torque setting you had a better time with "platter mixing" ? you just cranked it to the "max" or took a more fine tuned approach?
Darrin, have you tried the 33/45 nudge on these? I have tried it on the GR and it does not work. It shifts into 78. From your reply below I believe you stated it does work.

One other interesting thing that often comes up. I am assuming you have used the original MKII? How would you compare the digital pitch controls on the 1200G to those being analog? I would think the 1200G to be on the money.
Yes its a question that gets asked quite a lot in forums & FB groups. Me & one of my friends did a comparison one day with the MK2 as one deck & the G as the other in a mixup session into the same mixer so we could get a feel for the differences (although have used the MK2 for 30 years). Just for reference the MK2 had a new pitch. They both felt the same but the epic difference is the stability in speed that only the G can give. Its a whole different level of perfection.
That's good to know as we are considering switching from MKII decks to these. From what you have said, its sounds like the 1200G is much like the original 1200 in terms of the pitch adjustment and is not like say the M5G? The motor stability is not shocking at all considering the design of the new motor....... BTW, it's great to hear someone did this test with the original MKII.
@@rachmaninov0 You know what else is much like an original 1200? An original 1200! AND, the best part, you can pick up a mint one for about $3500 less. Times 2, that's $7000 cheaper.
