Technics SL1200 / SL1210 MK2 "no power" Repair Guide.
Always check your power chord and the fuses before replacing anything!!! Also ground yourself or use a grounding bracelet before touching the components and never forget to unplug everything when you open it up!!!
Background music made by: Mr. Zodiac
ISSUE: No power due to Needle light short circuit. The fuses did NOT blow and the power chord was plugged in when it shorted. (It would also work when your leds are dimming when use the device or wobbly erratic platter spinning, however these last errors would require some more
In most cases it's sufficient to replace transistors Q2 & Q3 on the mainboard. It's a relatively easy fix. You need 2x transistor 2SD637R or 2SD637 for this.
The needle light stopped working on one of my decks. As I tried to push it in and out a few times the deck suddenly stopped working completely, no more power. I searched the net for a solution and came up with replacing transistors Q2 and Q3 on the mainboard. There are a few other parts that need to be checked if this fix doesn't work for you (see EXTRA).
EXTRA:
If the above fix did not work for you or you have erratic platter movement or dim lights, also replace Q1 (2SC1846) (this is the loose big transistor attached to the inner deck for cooling. If that still doesn't work, replace Q201 (2SD1265) and diode D3 (MA1051M). I was in luck Q2 and Q3 were all I needed to replace. Cost me about 2 euro's in parts and 30 mins of time. The needle light still needs to be fixed, I am waiting for those parts and will create a video for that part soon.

Big improvement on the Hanpin TT's where the electronics are under the case not on top of the case directly under the platter where it interferes with the sound quality. Biggest reason why the redesigned Technics inspired TT's are so much better than the classics.

@@thomaspouskas210 Released in 2002 and 2010 the rights and tools were given to Pioneer when Technics were discontinued. Pioneer redesigned and used none of the original design without a major change or improvement and launched PLX-1000 at 2014. It is a huge improvement making this turntable a true DJ turntable and excellent audiophile turntable that better the SL-1200GR in every way that is three times the coin compared.

It's really not that hard, just be aware what you are doing at the moment and inform before you start. I have seen multiple good YT video's first and I was even considering buying a new MK7. But I am glad I went this way. saved me a lot of money. Thank you for your comment.

@@MrzodiacBE mk7 are good. Just got 2 1210 GR. But honestly I rather keep my 1200's. They are nice and everything new technology etc. but no way. Love my 1300's. Actually I am lucky to own 9 of them in great shape. In good condition. I won't say mint. But in very good condition

Hey Mr.Zodiac Great Vid you seem like you know what you are doing, so I need to ask you something at 0:11 in the video I noticed a lump on the plastic main board cover I that normal? My SL1200 MKII has a lump in the same place and I was worried it was warping from 2 hot resistors underneath namely R201 and R213 that run very hot 118F and 132F respectively is that normal for these turntables?

@@ocularcavity8412 I'm pretty sure it's from the heat from the resistors indeed.

@@MrzodiacBE thank you so far you are one of the only people on youtube and forums to even answer me and I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to answer me, a DJ on youtube was kind enough to measure the resistors I was worried about the most for their high temps and my temps are way too high on R201 and R213. After talking to a friend who trained as an electrician he said that if the values of the resistors haven't gone up then it is a problem elsewhere. Since I am no good at reading wiring diagrams/schematics I measured the resistance of every resistor on the main board and am preparing to replacing any that are more than 5% off so far the worst offenders are R207 which reads 44.8k instead of 56K, R306 5.39k instead of 22K R216 22K instead of 150K, R208 54.8K instead of 220K, R209 0.68m instead of 330K and R2 4.6k instead of 6.8K if you are familiar with any of these resistors and their relation =ship to R201 R213 and Q201 and information or insight would be VERY much appreciated

My Gemini PT2000 looks that Technics and has a non responsive slider problem. If not for the Quartz, the Gemini would be toast which is too bad. There's nothing else wrong with it and it's built like a big locomotive. For a $100 even the arm clip was still there!
