This is video explaining the process of changing the Technics SL-1200 target light to an LED circuit to increase it's visibility and brightness when cueing your rekordz.
The resistance calculator for LED's that I describe in the video is available at : led.linear1.org...

Nice vid. Thanks for sharing. Just wondering what are your thoughts on the ebay led I installed one and I followed instructions right. The led is still working but is not as bright as it was for the first hour after I installed it. Do you think they supplied the wrong resistor? Thanks

It's unlikely that the resistor they supplied would supply a certain brightness for a length of time then diminish over an hour. I'd go back and recheck your work. I'm not much a of fan of these eBay kits for LED target lights because all the ones I've seen face the LED upward into the aluminum tower cap and LED's are directional and should face whatever they are supposed to illuminate. In this case the record surface.

Common Beat Music thanks for your input. You're correct stuff they sell it's junk. It's funny cause I did both of my decks and same thing happened. Thanks mate

Buy yourself warm white 3mm LED's, 1/16" heat shrink and some 1/4 watt 330 ohm resistors. That's all you need to do what I do in this video.

Common Beat Music thank you Sir. That's what I needed to know. I guess I should have asked. Thanks again

Why not user existing resistor in parallel for a 5v led ?
@commonbeatmusic1290
@commonbeatmusic1290 3 года назад
I don't use it because it's a 1.5k resistor which I've found limits the current too much and therefore the brightness of the LED

I copied this method and my light turn on. Is it safe to say that the LED is always on whether its up or down? What im saying is that it doesnt turn off. It's fine but wondering if thats what supposed to happen.

Did you remove the 1.5k resistor thats soldered across the switch?
@carlosmedrano7005
@carlosmedrano7005 3 года назад
@@commonbeatmusic1290 yes. totally clipped the resistor off. Is the light supposed to turn off when the pop up is down? If the light is standing upward - I soldered it to the point that is in the 6oclock location (bottom)

@commonbeatmusic1290 3 года назад
@@carlosmedrano7005 Yes when the light is down, is could shut the switch off which is interrupting power to the light on the negative side.

@@commonbeatmusic1290 OK it's fixed. The switch had so much gunk and old glob of solder that I cleaned it all up and put new fresh solder. I can tell that there has been someone working on this in the past. Now it works great! thanks for your vid!

If you could have found the lighting to actually make all the wires appear black that would have been great. You almost held it still for a millisecond also so you may want to blur that part out, haha. Video number 10 I found to learn how to do this, NOPE!! Damn it. Could you draw out a little sketch what it looks like when it's done?

If you are talking about the wires that go to the bulb, they are both black. The easiest way to determine which is positive and negative is to use a multi-meter set for continuity to determine which one is negative and you can put one probe on the pop up light's switch and the other on each wire. Which ever wire shows continuity from the switch will tell you the orientation of how to install the LED.

@@commonbeatmusic1290 I'm just poking fun that all of the wires appeared the same color. Would your multi-meter solution work with a blown incandescent bulb? If the switch has to possibilities (on or off) how would you still tell ground using a multi-meter?
@commonbeatmusic1290
@commonbeatmusic1290 3 года назад
@@ranbymonkeys2384 The target light circuit is fed with about 20 volts DC so you have to observe polarity if you are changing this bulb to an LED type. The incandescent bulb can be changed without observing the polarity and adding the current limiting resistor like I did in this video.

White LED looks a lot better in the dark when you’re trying to cue than the nightlight that Technics come with
