I watched the video with Dime explaining it, I like how he teaches it but I really needed to see it in HD. I also liked how you were explaining every little detail of what's you're doing. thanks for doing this video. I'm new to guitar but I'd love to practice this technique. R.I.P. Dime the legend
Haha. Make sure you want a FR guitar. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another FR again. I don’t use it a lot and it’s such a pain in the butt to restring compared to hard tail guitars. Keep shredding 🤘🤘
@@StusWorld Its gets better with time. Unless changes in tuning. Also restringing happens like twice a year with good gear. Also if u add whammy for dime squeals they are longer.
Floyd rose bridge. There are a lot of downsides. I find there's more unwanted string reverberation. It really tests your muting. And you can bend the notes out of tune if you palm mute with too much pressure. I find once the new strings are stretched, the tuning isn't a problem. Restringing is a bit more work, and can be annoying. I've seen a few things that modern, non-locking nut tremolo bridges with locking tuners can take the same amount of abuse as an FR. Not sure they have the same range of movement but come with fewer downsides. Could be worth a look. But I find I play FR guitars more than anything else, so I'm pretty used to it by now.
Thanks for showing how to do this CORRECT. I've seen a number of videos simply showing the "standard" of picking the harmonic and not flicking/depressing the trem.
That is exactly why I felt like doing this. Picking the harmonic is just fine but there’s such a ballsy sound with the flick and dump. It’s small but it definitely adds to the technique. 🤘🤘
And as we now discover... Dime was using a wah pedal at the same time and dumped the foot pedal down as a squeely was coming up. He never verbally revealed that... but you can see it in a video during sound check with Damage Plan in Tokyo I think it was...
@@StusWorld I was testing out the harmonic squeals today with the wah pedal engauged + noise gate off + tube screamer drive + volume on full along with my randall amp natural high gain tone and MANNNN it makes a HUGE difference in getting those squeals to sustain for a long time if you want.... and far more accurate. GETCHYAAAA PULL!!!
fun fact. harmonics can be found in different spots of the picking hand. picking closer to the bridge or closer to the neck also changes the pitch of the harmonic
Another cool thing he did to achieve even higher pitch was to use the wah peddle to pitch it up , for example at the end of cemetery gates he did that technique to get that long high pitch note. Awesome video !!
Minor Non-Pro tip: If you achieve enough slack in the string while the bar is dumped then it will naturally start to vibrate as the tension is restored so you can actually get away with just a bar dump without the flick.
Yep, Dime hit his wah all the way down. Hard to believe he didn't get some bad feedback but that's what made him a monster. If he were alive today, he would tell you he got it all from EVH. RIP to both of them.
Really useful tutorial, man thank you. I've just started doing these but I didn't know about the pre-dump on the bar. If you don't do that, they are still possible, but they don't have the same awesome sound. You get like a moment of open G with sounds awful.
@@StusWorld LOL right thanks for the review stu!.. I had to subscribe I was wondering how to get some harmonics explained a little bit better then most people on RU-vid, Dimebag was an icon Love his music & styles of playing guitar!.🤘
Just got myself a Jackson pro series king v with a Floyd rose i nailed a squeal on the first try. I didn’t use dimes technique I picked the string instead but I got it. I used dimes flick and dump technique and eventually got a decent squeal
That is a beautiful axe, sir. I have a gloss black one. Too bad they're so fucking heavy at the headstock. I now understand the reason for the Rhodes flying V. Just wanted to comment on the guitar. I've known how to do those squeels since 2001.
@@StusWorld yeah I had it set up at my local guitar center after Christmas (after I broke my first string the first time doing the exact same thing 🤣)and they put it in standard E and it seems ok bridge wise like it’s perfectly level the way it should be I’ll just be more careful next time 🤣😂 plus I’m planning on trying out the d’addario NYXL 9-42’s instead of EB Super Slinky’s to see if that makes a difference
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KVMGProWB--jackson-kvmg-pro-series-king-v-snow-white-with-black-bevels Looks like they don’t make it anymore but it is stock.
nice mate, well explained. Theres a long haired dude on here that shows his stuff and does not show how to do it what so ever, its a joke. You did well. Thanks. Im afraid my EVH is only down however but my Ibanez i think swings both ways, ha ha, see what i did there? im fun at parties. anyway, keep it up and thx again m8
Let me explain the why? on the wah pedal, with the toe down, it elevates the level of sustain on the note, if you crank up the reverb and add a touch of delay, the mythical 2nd fret harmonic that you hear at the very end of Cemetery Gates, it sings in the most angelic fashion imaginable. without the way and such, you can hit the note, but getting it to last more than a second or two really isn't realistic.
Good question. Unfortunately, it does not. I was really hoping it did but they save that for the more expensive models like the one I’m using in this video. The KVMG
Very true! Depress the wah pedal all the way for the high range and watch it go! He would also have his guitar tech shut off the noise gate to get the most length out of it. Watch it go! 🤘
@@bahugunaa6669 Actually no. This is a KVMG Pro. I bought this and then I saw the JS32 for only $300 and I was like "What? It looks so good!". I had to buy the JS32. Haha.
Yo, no you dont need to float your tremelo, the bar pushes down so if you just dive hit a harmonic then you can raise the bar all you want. I can literally do this with my strat
Hey. Hey you. Quit tellin me to flick off lol. Also little know fact the REAL trick to this is to click on your wah pedal. In the OG dime tutorial you can hear him click it on and add a tiny bit of wah. Trust me look it up on RU-vid. There are videos out there proving it
Lol. Gotta get those flick offs down! I do know about the wah but I wanted to focus on the actual technique itself. I remember when that video came out almost 20 years ago for….young guitar? Something like that. I’ll be covering that part when I do my review of the Dimebag wah that I finally bought. Getcha pull! Now flick off!! Lol. 🤘
