I love your videos and this instrument is way out of my price league and space as well. Why can't someone put out same information and music out on youtube concerning the xylophone, it's 30-32 keys. I am sure you can play some kind of Latin marimba songs and jazzy things. I just ordered a xylophone, and cannot find a dang thing except some opportunists out there. Surely, you can make chords, couldn't a person double their mallets like this also? I am just stunned there are no brilliant people like yourself who can't come to all of us on a budget and live in less space.
You can definitely use 4 mallet technique on a xylophone. The only difference is the type of mallets you use. For a xylophone, you need harder rubber mallets. For the marimba, you use yarn mallets. The same technique applies regardless of the type of mallets used. There is also xylophone music because it was popular before the marimba. Yes the xylophone can make chords. The only issue is that with the marimba your chords are prettier because they’re more sustained, but on the xylophone you won’t be able to sustain chords for very long because the instrument is so articulate.
