thanks Alastair theres always more than one way to skin a cat i struggled myself for a long time with the descriptions in books until i came up with my own technique
Ryan Houston Allan McClenaghan Hamilton Scotland brilliant work big fan good to see the great Irish shrimps the sea crimp tubing I seen thing like that with the blooms on it you got a link regards Allan McClenaghan Hamilton Scotland cheers happy wrappings RIP LAWRENCE FINNEY
Great! That looks the easiest I've seen. I learned holding one end pinched between middle finger crossed over index finger, like for good luck, the other end pinched between thumb and little finger. But it was stretched tight. Then I folded it with the right hand fingers, my dominate hand. Thanks for the way you orient the hackle and rotate it for wrapping so fibers lay back, or up, I never knew that. Great tip, 👍 thanks!
Good stuff. Good to see different techniques as I usually double as I wrap and sometimes lose control. Doing it before hand ensures it's right before committing to the hook.
I don’t seem to be able to get the fibers to stay doubled over. The fibers spring back to their original position. Are you using cock or hen hackle ? Do you wet the fibers as you stroke them ? I can see how these approaches should work but I’m not doing something right. Thanks for all the great videos Ryan !! Curtis
NO NEED TO WET THEM AND IT WORKS WITH ANY HACKLE YOU ARENT BENDING THE BASE OF THE FIBRES ENOUGH YOU SHOULD BE PULLING PRETTY FIRMLY JUST BELOW THE PRESSURE THAT WOULD STRIP THEM OFF
