I wanted to give everyone a 1-year update. The Moccamaster Cup-One continues to impress. It gets used every day for multiple cups. The Breville Dose Control Pro grinder is a great companion to the Cup-One. I grind directly into the filter basket. Speaking of filters, about six months ago, I switched to Melitta #2 Natural Brown coffee filters. There is nothing wrong with the Technivorm filters, but they were getting harder to procure at a reasonable price. I did a taste test between the Melitta Natural and the Technivorm. I really couldn't tell a big difference. If I had a preference, It might be the Melitta. Clogs, one complaint I have seen on some reviews, is clogging. Technivorm ships the unit with what seems to be a barbed dental pick to keep the opening at the bottom of the filter carrier clean. I was well aware of the reviews about clogging, so I have always held a watchful eye. It was a few months after getting the unit before I observed a clog. Luckily I was there, so I had no mess to clean up. I have determined that defects in the filter have caused the few clogs I have seen. Basically, they weren't "stitched" together well, and it allowed grounds to get through. Overall I have seen approximately 10-15 clogs. Keep in mind I have brewed probably 600-800 cups. Cleaning: I buy my filters in packs of 100. After I go through a pack, I descale and clean the Cup-One. I use Urnex Dezcal to descale and Urnex TABZ for cleaning. Both work great. I might even be able to skip the TABZ, but I still do it. I apologize for my late responses to any comments here. I'll try to do better. For some reason, I haven't been getting alerts when comments are made.

I’ve had the KGBV for a couple years and love it. I wanted a single serve for work so just got this one. Dare I say it, I prefer the coffee from my One Cup! Per the directions, I do wet the paper filter before adding the coffee.

Thanks for the great review. You did a great job going from start to finish to show how the machine works. i've been looking for a replacement since my Bunn single cup coffee maker died and you sold me on this model.

Nice initial impression video. I just ordered my Cup-One, after a fair amount of research through both written reviews and RU-vid videos. For the past several years, I've been using a Kalita Wave pour over, but have been wanting a really good single serve drip brewer for more time crunched mornings. I've heard of Technivorm's very high quality and performance for many years. That said, and after watching what videos are out there on the Cup-One, I'm just a bit surprised that Technivorm didn't implement more of a shower head design for more even water dispersal. Oh well, I trust their decades of experience, making the finest drip coffee brewers out there.

I've now brewed about 100 cups with it. It's been perfect for me. I, too, was curious why no shower head. It does leave a big channel. I don't have a good TDS tool to really see how it's doing. The coffee is fantastic, so it doesn't bother me. I have not broken out my Chemex or Aeropress since I got it. (I have promoted/demoted the Aeropress to my camper.) Two to three days a week, I use the Flair Expresso maker with the Bellman steamer to make myself lattes.

FYI, just a suggestion. if you want a permanent filter, order a Coffee Gator coffee cup with the steel mesh filter. Their filter fits perfectly into the filter holder and works better than the paper filters if you happen to grind your coffee to fine.

Hey is that the pour-over coffee travel mug?
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 4 года назад
Just wanted to let folks know that I tried out the mesh filter for the Coffee Gator cup. You can purchase it separately. The quality is great. That said, I don't think it's for me. I usually brew with 25 Grams of coffee. With 25 grams the filter isn't quite big enough. You get a mess. With 20 Grams you are on the verge of a mess. 15 Grams brews fine. So....if your brewing ratio will fit within say 15-18 Grams, I would say this is a great solution to check out. If you are 20-25 Grams I would say pass. Once again, its personal preference.

Technivorum replacement parts are reasonably priced and easy to come buy. That said, the basket looks a lot like my old cheap and trusty Melitta dripper; I'm curious if it would work on this machine (fit, flow).

Your review is encouraging me to get this model even though I already have the Moccamaster 8-cup model and a keurig. Not impressed with the Keurig, but the convenience it provides is nice.
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 3 года назад
Having had a Keurig in the past, I think the key to making the cup one as convenient is the grinder. Because of the way my Breville is made I can grind directly into the filter. I still absolutely love this thing.

It just pours down through the center though.There might be over extraction in the center and under extraction all around the perimeter.

I just bought this machine a few weeks ago after reading a lot of reviews (missed this one). It's great, I love it and have been using it daily. Previously I was using a french press for many years but since I got this I don't bother with the press anymore, much easier. We also have had the bigger Technivorm but it didn't perform as well when trying to do just one cup so this one is perfect. p.s. How many ounces is that cup you have sitting there at the end of the video? I'm looking for one like that but the ones I've found are too small.
@anthropod76
@anthropod76 2 года назад
The coup at the end is more like a twelve ounce cup. Barely. I usually brew 10 ounces using the water line for that cup.

Great review! I received my moccamaster one cup few weeks ago and love the device but have noticed something unusual. When I add water to the reservoir it drips through the metal pipe. I have contacted the Australian distributor and they said this is "normal" Have you experienced this?

I have.. just a couple of drops when you pour water in. I usually wait until I have my filter with ground coffee in before I add the water so It’s not been difficult.

In your research or your use, do you know if there is a final quality difference if you use the Cup-One versus the full-size moccamaster model (that brews a pot and has a shower head)?
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 4 года назад
So sorry for the late response. I don’t have a full-size mochamaster to compare. That said, I love pour over coffee. I love Chemex, v60, etc. Chemex is a little different, but I think that’s the filter. I would describe Chemex as cleaner, but I don’t know if that’s an accurate way to describe it. If you gave me a cup from the Cup One and a cup brewed with a V60, I am not sure if I could tell the difference. (Please keep in mind I love coffee, but I don’t think I’m special in regards to my taste buds) I’m still loving the Cup One. Drinking som Counter Culture Apollo right now.

Can you use less water to brew a cup, say 4-6oz instead of 10oz, or will the machine not start? Thx.
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 3 года назад
Yes, works great. What happens is there is a shutoff when you run out of water in the top reservoir. I have brew with 6oz and and much as as 14. But 10oz is my normal brew amount. Sorry for the slow reply.

Fantastic review. I am debating trying this to replace my Gaggia Titanium as the pump died. I can get this for about the total cost to repair it. I really like your burr grinder and how it grinds directly into the basket. Which brand/model is it? Thank you
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 3 года назад
That would be a hard call. I guess it kind of depends on your current coffee tastes. Before the Cup One, I was all in to espresso and espresso drink. Don’t get me wrong, I still love them, but now my favorite coffee drink...is black coffee. HA! I really have been hooked on Counter Culture Coffees over the last year. Because they have a roasting facility in my state, It get’s to me 1 or 2 days off roast!
@anthonyisrandom

I also have been enjoying roasting my own beans with a hot air popcorn popper. It’s been a lot of fun to see how roasting times make a huge difference in taste. But, it has also made me appreciate roasters. With the same beans I have had some of the best coffee and some of the not so hot coffee. I have tried to hit the best coffee mark over and over and I’m just not that good at it. Make’s me want to up my game with a good home roaster....but...It’s hard to be just getting great coffee from talented roasters.

@@anthonyisrandom which burr grinder are you using in the video? Thank You
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 3 года назад
I use the Breville Dose Control Pro. It is my understanding there are two generations of this grinder. One with a plastic impeller and one with a metal impeller. The Gen 2 uses the metal impeller. I have the one with the metal impeller. (I only say this because gen one got some bad press because that impeller would wear down and the grinder had problems) I have used mine multiple times a day for almost two years. www.breville.com/us/en/products/coffee-grinders/bcg600.html

Random question, but did you try using a different cup that the one it came with, like a regular mug or something? I usually trink only a smull cup of coffee but I'm not sure if I could place a small porcelain cup under the drip without coffee splashing everywhere. I know, I could just use their cup and pour it in a different one, but I'm still curious...
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 4 года назад
I use normal coffee cups, big coffee coups, all sorts of cups. I haven’t had any splashing issues. My only complaint on the cup/mug size is I wish I could put my insulated 16oz travel cup under it. It’s too tall.

Hi, I have a Delonghi 15250 (It is one of the models with aroma button. It is around half price of yours). Do you think it worths the spending, if I buy a Moccamaster Cup One?
@anthonyisrandom
@anthonyisrandom 3 года назад
Here is my take. If your Delonghi satisfies your coffee needs, stick with it. I think yours is a 10 cup. If you are not happy with it and want a single cup system, I can certainly recommend the Cup One. The Cup One fits my needs perfectly, and I feel confident it will last me years and years.

I couldn’t find my original lid. I run mine without the lid/cover or with this one I 3D printed off of someone’s cool design. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2821048 I measured it this morning and it’s a little less than 12” with the 3D Printed cover/lid.

I'm sorry, I really don't know. I haven't used the select. I'm a one or two cup a morning guy and I like to vary the coffee between those cups. So the cup-one works great for me. If you drink more than a couple of cups the Select looks solid. Anyone use the select that has used the cup-one?
