Man...coming of age in the 90s when the computer revolution was hitting its stride...every Sunday I would pull the comics, sports, and ads for all the places that sold computers to see what was new! Then I was SO hyped when our cable provider added TechTV and loved watching this show. The explosion of Gateway, Dell, Alienware, Windows 98, the rebirth of Apple under Steve Jobs, AMD vs. Intel racing to 1GHz processors...SUPER nostalgic about all this stuff when I watch videos like this!

No IDE channels are gone Optical Drives are mostly gone Good amount of the I/O isn't on mother boards anymore Floppy Drives don't use them any more PCI is close to dead AGP is gone Slave master isn't really a big deal anymore I wouldn't go as far as saying 90% irrelevant. Maybe 50%

Im probably in the minority but i wish technology didn't progress past this point. Life was a good balance of tech and analog back then. Now technology consumes every waking moment of most peoples lives, staring at phones zombie eyed. Talking to alexa. Apps for everything. Games that are rushed unfinished with patches and micro transactions. The internet community now is so jaded and toxic. But the late 90s and early 2000s were the sweet spot for me. We were playing with tech but still living and communicating like humans. This recent generation is so disconnected from reality living on the internet 24/7 its sad.

What's even funnier, maybe, is that no matter how much time has passed everything is still relatively the same. Just faster stronger components. There's been no real revelations in PC building.

In 95 the very first full system I built I didn't know about standoffs. Killed the entire mobo. Stuff was simpler back then. Such small fans and heatsinks. Heck my first PC in 94 had no fan on the CPU. It was a 486sx33. hahah Patrick "6 gig for just the OS?" Man those days were fun. I use a 250 gig ssd for just my OS now. I miss these days the video is from. Most of all I miss my little wife who for 31 years was SO supportive of my PC habit and gaming. She bought me my first pc in 94 and never said never when it came to them. She would buy me a game and tell me to play and enjoy it that the yard would wait or its too hot out there so just game. :) I miss that sweet babe.

I went to Microcenter recently and ask a salesperson where I could find motherboard risers. He was a little puzzled and ask if I was referring to standoffs. I remember everyone used to call them risers. When exactly did they start being called standoffs?
