#Ask Mark. When is a good time for a diver to go from a BCD to a back plate? I’m considering going to head back Plate because it looks like it would support you moving through the water a whole lot easier. I’m not sure if I wanna do tech diving or not. Are back plates good for recreational diving? I know I couldn’t take one on a plane. But I was just thinking maybe it’s time for me to switch. I currently have a Wing style BCD.

There's no specific time to make the change to backplates, they're not just for tech diving. You can use them for recreational diving and they give you more stability and control over each of their features as you build your own BCD. Recreational BCDs are fine but, for longevity and future-proofing a backplate is more flexible. I made the switch when my old BCD started to wear and I naturally progressed onto backplates.

Seems very difficult, I feel that not everyone can thread the straps… Anyhow, does the instruction booklet tell what that velcro thingamabob is for? I’m quite curious what its for.

Love all your videos. Per your question: dissimilar metal-on-metal issues are typically called "galvanic corrosion" (although ionic welding fairly accurate except rust 'freezes' joints via mechanical bonds by expanding, not a chemical mixing of materials like welding). its basically creating a battery out of things that weren't meant to be a battery.
