His deep voice as Lurch was no imitation. That was his naturally deep voice. A lot of people may not be aware that he worked in radio before television. He was employed at a radio station in Dallas and was one of the reporters covering the Kennedy asassination.

One of Cassidy's voice roles as the Incredible Hulk in the 1970s TV series. I could hear it was human, but it was so deep it sounded like it was changed with a pitch-control device and/or blended with an animal. Nope, apparently it was 100% organic, and it was Ted Cassidy.

Periodically, my father would wash the walls in our house (which was only fair since he was primarily responsible for most of the smoke that coated them) and the amount of yellow/brown film removed was incredible. The walls instantly became several shades brighter and whiter. Naturally, he died of emphysema. Nearly all of the males - and a few of the females - in my family died of smoking-related diseases from the 1950s until the 1990s.

I remember Ted Cassidy was a tall gentleman about 6'9" that's tall for guy like him he played lurch on the Addams family unfortunately Ted Cassidy passed away in 1979 it's kinda strange that he died end of the 1970's he was so talented in everything he did on t.v. or movies and I don't know why he died over 30 years ago since 1979

Cassidy underwent surgery at St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles to have a benign tumor removed from his heart. The tumor had formed as a result of the long-term effects of the condition acromegaly (the same condition which also affected Andre Roussimoff), which was also responsible for his iconic deep voice, facial structure, and overall tall stature. Complications arose several days later while he was recuperating at home. He was readmitted to the same hospital, where he died on January 16, 1979, at age 46.

I encountered Ted Cassidy in a Sears department store candy line in Glendale, California. I lived "next door" in Eagle Rock. It was in 1970. My good friend "John" (who was just ahead of me in line) had excitedly whispered over to me, "Hey Marty, look how tall that guy who just walked up behind you in line is, he's a giant!" I didn't want to just turn around and disrespectfully stare right up at the guy, so I decided I'd turn around and pretend to 'just be looking for a wall clock to see what time it was getting to be(stores had wall clocks back then!). When I glanced up, I right away saw "Lurch" without any makeup on or wearing his costume! I recognized him right away, who wouldn't? Well, I suppose my friend didn't, he just said some "giant guy", ha! I wanted to say something to "Lurch", but I couldn't think of a single thing to say that wouldn't sound kind of stupid. Well, Sears always gave out free bags of popcorn to kids just so their mouths were full and they wouldn't be able to pester their parents to buy buy buy them things, so I just threw a "fun-knee" joke up to him by saying, "HEY KID... YOU HERE TO GET FREE POPCORN TOO?!" Mr. Cassidy's eyes grew a sparkle in them, letting me know that he thought what I had asked him was humorous, TINY me calling GIANT him a "kid" and all. Then he humored me kindly by slowly groaning out, in true Lurch fashion, " UUUUUUH....PEEEEENUT.... MMMMMM & MMMMMMS!". I laughed to let him know I thought what he had just said and done for me was "really cool". Then we talked for a couple of minutes more. I told him I was there with my mother and two sisters just to get new school clothes, he told me he was just browsing, but that he might pick up some new tools while he was there. Maybe buy a new washing machine because his old one was giving him trouble all the time now. That was on a Sunday afternoon. On Monday, I had the best "bragging rights" story to share before school, during short breaks between classes, at lunch and after school let out too. And I had a good friend to back up my story when other kids tried calling me a liar! I was only 13, and just starting 7th grade, and I was going to a school in Eagle Rock that was both Junior and Senior high, grades 7-12. Even the big kids wanted to hear every detail of what me and Lurch talked about, and specially where we had met so maybe they might visit there and encounter him later on just like I had. The Addams Family show had already ended production by then, 1970. But they still showed reruns at the time, every afternoon even.

I remember seeing Mr. Cassidy in a western playing a native American and he did a great job. Long ago but he was very interesting and sadly Lurch was too much of what he is remembered for but at least that role is probably why he is still talked about. Loved his voice. Peace Mr. Cassidy.

+Smedley N Yep. I fondly remember a blooper he participated in by running onto the set of Star Trek and picking up Shatner while they were filming the episode Bread and Circuses. Cassidy was in full Indian costume and Shatner had no idea what was going on. It's really funny and most likely can be found on RU-vid still today.

alucard624 Hello alucard 624 I know the blooper you are referring to however the person who picks up William Shatner is not Ted Cassidy. Ted was a guest star in the Episode of Star Trek named "What are little girl's made of" he portrayed the android "Ruk" in the episode.
