The absolute tension of Nate in the bathroom, staring at the mirror. I was practically begging him not to spit... And he didn't. Such a small moment, but it means so damn much. Proof of how good the writing is in this series.

I have an iPhone and I asked Siri that question. She referenced Ted Lasso. I asked her twice first she said "Oh wonder kid when will you ever learn." Then she said "Ask Nate and do the opposite of what he says." I kid you not. It was worth it. If you have an iPhone try it out. It's great.

The most interesting this is when Roy Kent gave his idea of the "Strng 2.0" training, he was actually getting pretty close to what Jamie suggested.
@zimvader25
@zimvader25 Год назад
Lol just the position of a circle with one dot in the middle on the whiteboard, but theory-wise he was still way offs. Not even close. Jamie was using himself as an example when he said "play through me, not to me" but he meant everyone on the field. Stop going TO a specific player, and start thinking about how you can get ahead of that player. He wasn't actually saying he was doing it right and everyone else was wrong, he was explaining that EVERYONE needed to think that. The imaginary string in total football is to get an idea of where everyone is heading but you can't actually be tied to any specific player. It will never work that way. Roy's plan still had everyone focused on just one person instead of everyone focused on themselves PAST any given person.

With Nate, I did read that Jade could tell he wasn't ever being himself. And it was only when he showed his real self that she let him in. It's a nice touch, and will probably lead to his redemption.

I don’t know if anyone pointed this out yet, but in season two when Roy is not giving Keely enough space, Roy shouts at Jamie to always stay with his teammate and Jamie says, no, I have to give him space and trust my teammate. He goes on to say Pep taught him that and Jan Maas says he (Pep) learned it from Cruyff. I think this is why Jamie got to play Jamie - he was the only one with experience playing total football.

That funny rant that Nate goes on, about why he can’t ask her out because what if he isn’t let into his favorite restaurant mirrors 1x7 when he told Ted he wouldn’t like his idea, then he would get fired, face melts off… it was the moment a lot of us fell in love with him and his humor. What's interesting to me is that Nate is changing OFF the pitch - it remains to be seen when/how those changes will be applied ON the pitch. And he still owes Ted, Beard, Roy, and the whole Richmond team a heartfelt apology for tearing up the "Believe" sign - they will not forgive him (nor should they) until he makes that apology. My hope is that he'll begin a real relationship with Jade, and she will inspire him to make his amends with Richmond.

Another great episode, that Sam monologue was really well done, It was also alluding to the Euro 2020 final with Rashford, Saka and Sancho, three black English players, who missed their penalities in the shoot out and were subjected to a lot of racism online afterwards and basically showed how certain parts of the fanbase only care for players when they play well and will just show their hatred when not. Jason Sudeikis actually wore a T-shirt with their names on during an event for the season two press run. Like you were saying as well, Ola is a great character for sure and you can see where Sam gets his positivity from. Also - great that you're gonna be reacting to more Taskmaster as well, can't wait for that 😄

OMG, asking Google was hilarious! I also don't like Jack. I'm glad Rebecca brought up the love bombing and I hope that's the whole point and she turns out to be a Rupert because otherwise I don't see the point, but in any case, yeah, Jack, ick. This ep made me cry...twice. Once watching it the first time and again watching it with you, just Sam and his dad, you know? I read somewhere that the guy who plays Trent told Jason his headcanon/backstory of his character was that his father expected too much from Trent, wanted him to be a Roy Kent instead of a gay reporter, and that Jason told him that was great because a large part of the show was about the impact of bad fathers, so it's nice to show a good one in contrast. I mean, I'd wish Ted Lasso on everyone with a bad father, but Ola was pretty awesome too, and it's so great to see an example of positive masculinity that doesn't shove guys in a box and chop off anything that doesn't conform, you know? And after the first several eps this season, which felt weirdly paced and askew, the last two have been breaths of fresh air.
@joeypotter6051

I don't like Jack either. I find her accent super distracting - the actress is South African but she sounds like she's trying to do a British accent? Although in the coming out scene in the office she sounded American at times? Idk it just rings false to my ears. Also the love bombing is super off-putting. And the Keeley and Rebecca scene just underscored how little chemistry Keeley and Jack have compared to Keeley and Rebecca (I'm not talking sexual chemistry between them, they have the best friend chemistry and you really feel the love between them in a way that I just don't get with Jack.)

I don’t think the Trent crime thing was meta at all. He was referring to the 3 seasons of football that Ted lasso (the charecter) has coached Richmond. Essentially what Trent was saying was that the culture of trust Ted has been building in the lockerroom for 3 football seasons is going to allow the team to pick up total football faster then most teams would be able to

Great little Easter egg: The music playing in the background of Beard's total football presentation is the principal score from a 1981 film called "Escape to Victory". The story combined the things most Europeans love most: football, and embarrassing German people both on the pitch, and with historical reminders of their defeat in WW2. The movie (simply titled "Victory" in the US) was a marginal success in America, but was wildly popular in Europe. It starred Michael Caine, Sylvester Stallone, and Max von Sydow. It also featured a number of famous footballers who were either actively playing at the time, or had recently retired - including a 40 year old Edson Arantes do Nasciemento, AKA Pelé. Great little touch, on the part of the Lasso writers and production team.

Honestly i believe that Jade was not being mean to Nathan because shes necessarily a rude person, but that she sensed that he was insecure and trying to impress her and was not impressed. That got even worse when his ego grew and he came back in as West Hams manager putting on a show of being a big shot. It was only when his date shot him down and he didn't really try to cover it up or protect his image that she softened on him. I don't think she ever hated him, I think she was just always waiting for one moment of sincerity.

I think Jade wasn't originally planned to be a big role. So the writers initially had her curtly rejecting Nate's request for the window table as a plot point in Nate's character development without any thought of how it would reflect back on Jade. Other than being an ass about the table for no real reason her adversarial relationship with Nate makes sense as does her softening towards him after his date with the model. I don't know what will come of Jack and Keeley but the writers are definitely leading us to be uncomfortable with Jack and therefore JacKeeley for now.

In the pilot, Rebecca (in front of the press corp which includes Trent) says that Richmond are changing the way they do things and starting something new, which is "The Lasso Way"... which is also what Trent was saying. Total Football only works if the players know each other inside out and trust each other... which is exactly what Ted has been doing the past 3 seasons. Fostering the environment that means Total Football can be perfected and truly learned, which... as Rebecca says in the Pilot and Trent says in this episode... is The Lasso Way. And that is further exemplified by it being Jamie, of all people, who solves the last piece of that puzzle. Jamie wouldn't have been able to see that without The Lasso Way. He would have been too busy trying to be up front, scoring all the goals himself.
@RyanCogar
@RyanCogar Год назад
The "through me rather than to me" explained kind of: Rather than doing a "classic strategy" of playing directly to your strikers, which involves them making offensive runs in behind the defence & playing passes through the gaps to them or long balls over the top. You are instead having strikers position themselves in front of the defensive line & receiving passes to their feet & then creating more build-up play & opening gaps from other players making runs/receiving passes & stretching the oppositions defensive setup. It's essentially a more controlled possession-based way of playing as opposed to hitting it up near the strikers & hoping they can do their job.

The differences betweeen Sam's dad and Jamie's dad is vast. Fathers and Sons for the past three seasons. The Lasso Way is definitely meta. It's all the breadcrumbs. in s1 we saw sam have a crush on Rebecca, then s2 relationship. in S1 we also see nate being abrasive and then the turn in s2; in s1, jamie ONLY wants to be himself and now he was upset to not be paired with someone but we've been watching his growth. And Ted is just liberated I think. He's no longer hostage to his panic attacks; he can manage them and I think that lackk of anxiety is infusing him with a new sense of purpose. I think Jack is going to mirror Rupert. Not in the abusive way, but more like she'll get tired of Keeley and move on to the newest, shiniest object (not that Keeley is an object).

Im loving Jamie’s growth through the seasons and Nate’s redemption arc. I like him and Jade and appreciate that she didn’t soften up until she saw his sweet more real side. He was trying too hard to be cool when she first met him and awkward in an off-putting way. She wasn’t going to act impressed by him no matter how bad he wanted her to, which I like. He was an ass with a huge chip on his shoulder before. Very thankful the spitting in the mirror says are (hopefully) over. I thought Jack was going to be some fun for Keeley before but I’m liking her a lot less now. I’m glad Rebecca is pointing out the gift-bombing and parallels to Rupert as red flags. I really don’t like how possessive Jack is of Keeley and her comment about being rich enough to cover up murder is creepy. If it were a darker show I’d be worried about Keeley’s safety. I still want her to get back with Roy, they were adorable together.

It rings false to me that she still hasn't bonded with her employees (not Babs so much as the others, I guess they figured they didn't have time but it wouldn't take much to show her proving what she learned from Ted about making everyone on your team feel noticed and important, like in the pilot when Nate is floored that Ted wants to know his name, because nobody has ever cared before).

Team now is a family and they trust each other like a family. Ted lasso build that trust in the team so he bulild his own and new total footbal.The Lasso way is what Trent referred to the building of trust, is what lasso is best at, he is a good person who helps (with/without knowing) other people to be better people. Nate "betray" him because ted was a good man and he represent iwhat a "weak" man is ( In Nate mind). Ted seeing a father-son relationship that works even though they are long distance is good for him. Also him checking if Sam was ok, is a callback to the last time a father came to the locker room had a very bad thing. The parallel of Jamie seeing Sam’s relationship with his Dad, when Sam saw Jamie’s relationship with his Dad in Season2. Sam telling his Dad abt his relationship with Rebecca is a show of how open they are to each other. Roy saying all those puns!!!
