It feels like in preparation for this interview the interviewer got stoned, and wrote down his high thoughts and theories on music and the world in general and just decided to run them by Ted Leo and get his thoughts. I like this type of interview.
It's interesting to go back to these old interviews from the late 2000s/early 2010s and see these utopian ideas about the internet that were floating around back then and how they've totally, completely died over the last few years. Access to ths internet making people less angry? The internet has filled people with pure bile and vitriol.
Interesting hearing the politics here in 2020 given this was published in 2012. Punk Rock has had bands warning of the corporatocracy and it's fascistic tendencies since day one.
In a few parts of the interview, Ted Leo talks about sex (política sex, republican sex, etc). Now, i can only imagine Steg saying the word "SEX" since Ted is his voice actor in Steven Universe's movie. Thank you for finding this video and read this comment. Have a nice day
I am a bewildered person of the future, looking back wistfully; while I appreciate this document, I'm not sure I've gained clarity into the obfuscated.
They had a pop influence maybe that's what you're thinking about. It's also easy to say that you're not in it for the money when you're making a ton of it.
There is something wrong when a "punk turned pop-star" is trying to define "Punk". Nobody actually has a passion for pop music... people just do it for the money.
