People often ask how this is done, I demonstrate the process in this 10 minute video. NOTE: This applies to Oil Cooled models only - DOES NOT APPLY to Liquid Cooled models.

Glad I watched this. just bought a UK 2012 GS ADV with full wilbers. I had no idea they were part old and new conversion.

Ted thanks for personally taking my call , you were very helpful describing the design and function of several types of shocks for my 07 R1200 GSA (non ESA ) I am glad I settled with the TFX and the Beemer Shop. Cheers

Good info, Ted. There's so much confusion about these ESA shocks. Posting this video will help clear that up.

Not a heat shield, but I bet it does do a great job in shielding cool air from cooling the shock... so I suppose you said it right, or ever better, you knew exactly what you were saying!

Thanks! Unfortunately Wilbers does not make an ESA conversion for your K1200S. However you can replace them with manual shocks, the bike doesn't care if you unplug the ESA.

HI Jim, No I'm sorry there are no Wilbers conversions for the K1200S or K1300S models. We pull the ESA off those bikes and install manually adjustable shocks.

K12S and K13S pull the ESA off those bikes?? why ?
@BeemerShop
@BeemerShop 11 лет назад
HI Jim, Sorry same reply, the wedge motors with ESA have thus far not been supported by Wilbers. We do have an ESA conversion for the K1600GT, but that's it.

Very nice. What I don't understand is WHY does a replacement shock, a Cartridge cost almost $700 ?

Hello Mr. Porter, great videos thanks for sharing! Do you got a specific video for a spring replacement rear shock F800 GSA 2015 ESA ??>

Excellent video. Thank you. Is there a recommended service/rebuild interval for these shocks?
@BeemerShop
@BeemerShop 10 лет назад
Hi Mike, thanks for watching. The official recommended service interval is 25k miles or every 3 years. However these are steel cylinder shocks and therefore you really can't hurt them if you go beyond the recommended interval. Performance may start to decline or you might wear out a seal head eventually if you don't rebuild them, but unlike some other aluminum cylinder brands, you won't damage the cylinder if you choose to not rebuild them until you have a compelling reason.

BeemerShop Thank you. What cost is associated with the service? Can I do it myself or do they need to be sent to your shop?
@BeemerShop
@BeemerShop 9 лет назад
+Mike Hendley Hi Mike, I hope you got an answer, I just now realized there was no reply to your question. As of this date the cost of the shock including the coupling is $675.00 total cost per shock, that includes the complete shock and the labor to couple the ESA motors.

If you happen to be in Istanbul, stop by MOTOSENKRON and have all the shock absorbers of BMW motorcycles repaired with a one-year warranty, very cheap 250 euros.

Wy don t you repair the original shock ???
@BeemerShop
@BeemerShop 6 лет назад
Good question Pedro. The original Showa shock in this video has a design flaw that causes a spike in pressure as it reaches end of stroke which causes seal failure. Fix it and it will leak again. You can't get all the parts anyway, so if you have a bad piston rod or other vital part you can't get a new one. The original shock is a "price point" item which was not intended to be rebuilt (I was told by someone who is in a position to know that BMW was paying about 30 Euros a shock so they are very cheaply built). Furthermore the nitrogen separation piston is not designed to be removed and you would have to install a Schrader valve if you want to refill the nitrogen (most shop don't do this step, they only replace the seal and bushing and hope for the best regarding the nitrogen pressure). At the end of the day, you have spent good money on a bad shock. Final point, if you ride off road this shock will overheat. Don't waste your money, get a better shock.

Do you have a shock for my 2015 KTM 1190 Adventure ESA?
@tedporter58
@tedporter58 6 лет назад
Yes we have a Wilbers ESA rear shock for your 1190. More suitable for street and limited off road riding. It is an emulsion design which could overheat during extended off road riding where a reservoir shock would be preferred. Unfortunately we do not have a reservoir ESA shock for your bike at this time.
