Tikur sew is the battle song for the memory of Adwa heroes. Adwa is the war between Italian colonialist and Ethiopian patriots led by the king of kings Menelik II. The war was concluded with the victory of Ethiopia and Africa. The victory was heard through out the world. It was the firs whites supermacist defeat against black peoples. It was the an examplenary for the black and all the peoples of the world living under the colonial rule to fight for the freedom.

Guys I think u have understood the song well from the comment section. Let me tell u a history that is being made in our generation. There is a group of youngsters that go from Addis Ababa to Adwa, 993 km, by FOOT to remember the jorney our fathers went to fight that battle. They are called Guzo Adwa (jorney to Adwa). They do this every year....the jorney lasts like 3 months and then it ends on the mountains of Adwa at March 3 ( the day of the battle).

It was performed by Emperor Menelik II (Aba Dagnew) and Empress Dowager Taytu in 1888 E.C (1996 G.C.) and ended in Ethiopian victory. I end up watching this twice. I love the way you reacted on Ethiopian music. Teddy is a legend. This particular song is part of Ethiopian history explained in the form of a song. He is talking about, perhaps the only war in black mans history, to win over the European colonization led by the great black king DAGMAWI MINILIK. Anteneh Tesfaye tried to interpret it here in the comment section. Teddy is known for expressing the whole book in a one song, that is his quality. Kudos to you guys.

Tikur sew means Black man. It is for the leader of battle of Adwa Ging Menilik Ii and his wife also went to lead the war Queen Taitu. This was our Emperor Menilik the 2nd he reigned in the late 19th century and early 20th....he's one of our bravest leaders who fend off Italian Colonialists in the "Battle of Adwa"...Tikur Sew means Balck Person in this instance he was referring Menilik as Tikur Sew!!! The last verse written say "Yehuwalaw kelele yelem yefitu"... meaning there is no future if there wasn't a past if I commented it word for word, it means there is no future without our past!!!! First of all I would like to thank you guys! Let's appreciate our own African Heritage! The entire music has a lot to tell. That script at the end says and i transalte "የኋላዉ ከሌለ የለም የፊቱ" "If there was no the past, there won't be the future" (?) which basically means, we need to recognize what have been done for us.
