Full Highlights as Teddy Riner (FRA) wins the men's judo +100 kg gold medal against Alexander Mikhaylin (RUS) at the ExCeL - North Arena 2 at the London 2012 Olympic Games (3 August).
Judo made its very first appearance at the Olympic Games in 1964 in Tokyo. However, it was not included in the Olympic programme in 1968 in Mexico City, but returned, never to leave again, at the 1972 Games in Munich. As for women's judo, it was added to the Games in 1992 in Barcelona.
Men and women now compete in seven weight categories. There was originally a men's category open to all weights, but this event was withdrawn after the 1984 Games in Los Angeles.

many here don't understand judo. I'll explain for you: The russian knew perfectly that teddy riner was better than him, so the russian played only defense and just waited for a counter-attack. So teddy riner understood that and did the minimum with the minimum risk to secure an olympic gold medal. And that's what teddy riner got, a gold medal.

It's totally legal to win a medal without by doing a technique but it isn't the same like throwing your opponent even earning a that time yuko.

He(Teddy) is Micheal Jordan of Judo. He is G.O.A.T in Judo. 2 Olympic Gold Medals and 10 World Championship Titles!! Who can top this?? Is there anyone?? I don't think so!!

Aleksandr Karelin, for example. But Aleksander never fled from his fights, unlike this person.

I am sure both are legendary Judokas but whenever you're presenting your sport or martial art on the biggest stage you need to present it well, and they failed at that spectacularly. I do not doubt anything you say about their ability to do precisely that. I do however suggest that this was boring, and I won't be watching anymore judo....

what are the rules?? why dont they go for the legs?
@live4bass868
@live4bass868 10 лет назад
they removed leg grabs because too many wrestlers were coming to judo and refusing to learn judo and just grabbing legs and pushing. You could at this time grab the leg if you were off balance or had a double side grip. Basicly one throw on your side mostly to your front is a yuko on your side more to your back is a wasari and on your back is an ipon 15 second hold down is also a wasari and 20 seconds is an ipon you can have unlimited yuko two wasari to an ipon and an ipon for the match. penalties 2 = yuko 3=wasari 4= ipon and you loose the match

Leo Mijon There's much more than meets the eye. There's a lot of technique, trying to take the other person off balance so you can throw them on their back. When someone manages to land a person on their back, they are awarded a full point; ippon. There are also these calls that act as penalties; shido. Which basically is like a disqualification. That's the extent of my knowledge, I did Judo for about 9 months.
